I copied a project I wrote on my XP machine to my other computer with Windows 7 64-bit. When I run it through VS2008 it exits immediately. It does not run a single line of code. The exit code is 0. I need to post what else it says. But I did find a posting about this saying the path to the temp files may be wrong for it but he did not know how to change this. If I create a new peoject and put a command button on it, the program runs. So I was wondering if it is something like the temp files or something else. The machine runs a compiled .exe of the program from the XP machone when installed on the Windows 7 machine. So I do not think it is the program not being compatible.
I need a code (or a mini tutorial) for like a basically antivirus, but not everything, I only have these requirements:-to run on startup-when it runs, a image (with the AV logo) pops up, and after a while (like 2-3 seconds) it dissapears-when it runs on startup, the main screen of it dont' pop up, but will be shown on system tray
I am currently working on a launcher, and it must consist of the following:
- one main routine being called, NO WINDOW may be created at any times after or before this main routine. - one small form called by the main routine if a certain command was sent through the Command (shortcut).
At this point I use a Windows Form, but it seems a little useless to create and initialize a form if you won't even use it. Any way to make a routine run when my program starts without showing any window? But still make it possible to show that small dialog?

I'm currently having an issue with VB.Net and Adobe Acrobat. The issue comes from exiting Acrobat but the Windows Taskbar still states that there is an Acrobat.exe process open. I have tried using Marshal.ReleaseComObject(), but it still hangs there. I do not want to have to rely on the "End Process" option on the Task bar in order to remove it.

Although I am not sure if this could be a problem - I run a javascript saveAs script on the Acrobat side in order to make a copy of the file. This also could be a reason why it is hanging, but I ruled it out based on basic knowledge of saving files and exiting from other Acrobat/Microsoft Programs. Acrobat only closes when my application ends. (Currently) I am trying to make it consider the case if a user manually closes the Acrobat application.
I want to work on a project I have in mind and this envolves saving data which would need to be updated every time the user exits the program. I suppose I need to know how to save a file to a blank text document, and how to get the application to read the information when it is called for. I believe I need to set delimiters or such, the helpfile is useful, but limited and some information is not listed at all.
I am trying to end a program immediately when a critical exception is caught. But I am finding that code after my Try/Catch block is executing even though the code withing the Catch block is executing, and that Catch code is calling Me.Close.
I suspect it has something to do with background .net threads or something, but I have no clue how to deal with those kinds of issues. How can I stop the program as quickly as possible? If code after my Catch executes, it will (and does) throw lots of uncaught exceptions later. Currently, it is not feasible for me to try to catch all the other exceptions. I just want to report an error and end the program.In my form load routine, I create and set up a number of objects and arrays by calling various subroutines.The success of most of the subroutines depends on the sucess of three subs in particular, which are called early on. If one of those three fails, there will undoubtedly be a number of hard to trap exceptions later on in the load routine.
How can you add a image where when you double click on the icon and the program starts it shows a picture before the program loads. Like Photoshop startup or the new 2010 visual Basic express start up
I have a VB program that displays a PDF file. When the program is closed it takes 30 seconds or so before AcroRd32 process releases the PDF file. In certain circumstances if the program is restarted with in this period, the PDF file does not display. The specific circumstances is that I have a second program (re)starting the program that displays the PDF file.
a) Make the PDF file be immediately released when my program closes
b) When the PDF file is loaded test that it properly loaded so that it can be reloaded if necessary.
when i attempt to debug a program in visual basic studio 08 the black screen dissapears immediatly and i cannot read anything that appears. not sure if it is an option or a bug, but it makes the system relatively useless.
I have just converting my VB6 project to VB.NET 2008. I have set up start with Model. It start with Main() sub, in Main sub I have declare as below:

In formpwd I have UserId, PWD as test box and Two command buttons. The system executes form_load code and then PWD and UserId_Gotfoucus handler and then closes the system. Why is not waiting to accept UserId and PWD?
I have developed a vb.net application which gets a folder as input with n number of .txt.When there are say 5 .txt files the application executes and produces the excel output.When there a n numpber of .txt files say 30, the application takes a long time and exits without producing the output.
I had originally saved the project I was working on to my desktop, but now I have moved the folder to another location on my hard drive (didn't want it on my desktop anymore).
But since I've moved it I get the message:
The working directory does not exist: 'C:old folder locationResources'.
Is there a simple way to update my project to the new folder location?
I am a student trying to create a program in VB that starts out with a penny pay for the first day, two pennies the second day, four pennies the third day etc. There is a drop down box that the user picks a day of the month. The program calculates to that day of the month. I am not asking for the code, I need help understanding how the counter initializes and stops on the day the user clicks on.
I've got a very simple SQL database program that lets me change user information in a table. I have two textboxes that show the user information but I want it to show a specific record as the program loads.

is there a way I can get my program to run when the user logs on to Windows, but before the Start menu and everything shows up, and then when the program terminates, run Windows normally?

i need to open a form (loginform1.vb) when the program starts. i do not want this form to be able to be closed, as it will be used as a login for the form. i have already tried loginform1.show() but this is able to be exited, and it is started in the background.
I have created a 7 day timer in a VB form that is to be part of a larger project. It has 14 date time pickers set to hours and minutes only in 24 hour format (1 on and 1 off per day), 7 checkboxes, 7 radio buttons, 2 textboxes to display day of the week and current time and a few buttons. I have the most puzzling problem with VS2008 in regards to debugging my programs. Until recently I have been coding in VS2010 but due to some other system requirements with my work issued PC I have moved back to VS2008.All apps I developed in VS2010 always have and continue to debug as expected. However, any app I write in VS 2008 and try to debug, the application immediately ends before the first form is loaded. Again, if I run the same code in VS2010 I have no problems. I did notice the other day that if I debug without being connected to my corporate network, I can debug in VS2008 just fine.
My typical application has a couple of textboxes, checkbuttons, radiobuttons, and so. I always want to load the settings the user used the last time when the program starts, and also want to save the settings as the users clicks "Save settings" or closes the application. When the user attempts to save the settings, I'll have to check each of the controls for input errors (sometimes they have to have a max length, other times only caps, other times other things, there isn't a rule for them all, everytime it'll be different), and only if everything OK i'll let him save the options. If there is something wrong, no option is saved and my error-control provider will pop up a description of the input type info that should be put in that control.
I've been designing this from scratch for all my projects, but it's being a pain to do it. So I'd thought maybe now was the time to do some library to help me. I thought initially that maybe it'd be a good idea to have all the controls on my form that are going to be part of this save/load process to have an attribute associated with them, something like this [Code]
I know the code to make labels invisible but i dont know how to make them invisible as soon as the program starts. where would i have to put the code fro that to work?
