Executing Script In Program - Type MsgBox("hello") Into The Textbox, Click The Button

Aug 24, 2011

I was once using a program that was under beta, so the creator added a nifty feature. You could enter any vb.net code into a textbox, and when you pressed the button next to it, that code was executed. For example, you could type MsgBox("hello") into the textbox, click the button, and it would run that code as if you actually put it in the source code and ran it. I've googled so many different phrases trying to find out how to do this, but I can't find anything. Anyone have any ideas or resources I can look at?

VS 2008 - Program Starts And Exits Immediately

Dec 6, 2010

I copied a project I wrote on my XP machine to my other computer with Windows 7 64-bit. When I run it through VS2008 it exits immediately. It does not run a single line of code. The exit code is 0. I need to post what else it says. But I did find a posting about this saying the path to the temp files may be wrong for it but he did not know how to change this. If I create a new peoject and put a command button on it, the program runs. So I was wondering if it is something like the temp files or something else. The machine runs a compiled .exe of the program from the XP machone when installed on the Windows 7 machine. So I do not think it is the program not being compatible.

Acrobat Hangs After User Manually Exits Program

Jun 4, 2012

I'm currently having an issue with VB.Net and Adobe Acrobat. The issue comes from exiting Acrobat but the Windows Taskbar still states that there is an Acrobat.exe process open. I have tried using Marshal.ReleaseComObject(), but it still hangs there. I do not want to have to rely on the "End Process" option on the Task bar in order to remove it.

Below is a snippet of the code that I am try to using:
Try
'Tries To Close Acrobat Application
acrobatApp.Exit()
System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(javaScriptObj)
[Code] .....

Although I am not sure if this could be a problem - I run a javascript saveAs script on the Acrobat side in order to make a copy of the file. This also could be a reason why it is hanging, but I ruled it out based on basic knowledge of saving files and exiting from other Acrobat/Microsoft Programs. Acrobat only closes when my application ends. (Currently) I am trying to make it consider the case if a user manually closes the Acrobat application.

InputBox And MsgBox Button Handling?

Dec 29, 2005

From my input box, if cancel is clicked, I want to exit the sub. Here is my input box, but how do I create an if..then to find out if Cancel was clicked and then stop running the macro?

myLPS = InputBox(msg, title, vbOKCancel)

Second thing, I have a message box that asks if the user wants to continue with Yes & No buttons. But, if I click No, it just keeps executing. I want it to execute from the end of an if..then if No is clicked. Here is the function called and my if..then:

If CheckOK(MLSName) = vbNo Then GoTo ClickNo ' this is at the end of this big if statement - ClickNo:
Public Function CheckOK(MLS As String) As VbMsgBoxResultDim message As StringDim title As Stringmessage = "Create Task for: " & MLS & "?"title = "Continue..."Result = MsgBox(message, vbYesNo, tite)End Function

Panic Button Application MsgBox Error

Jul 13, 2011

A friend of mine has requested my assistance in making a "panic button" application where you place the directory, click a button and boom. Directory deleted. You might assume this may not be the most legal application. I have already figured out how to delete directories due to this MSDN post. My code is near the exact same.

My problem is, I want to make sure the button is fully intentional. So I added a MsgBox with Yes, No, and Cancel. As you can see below:

Simulating IntelliSense's Parameter List For A Function Call (like MsgBox Button)

Jan 29, 2010

I am creating a function and want to have IntelliSense pop down the list of valid options for a certain parameter in the same way that the MsgBox function behaves when you are typing your argument for which buttons you wish to include (such as MsgBoxStyle.OkCancel). I have done my best to search the internet but haven't found a thing which comes close to what I'm seeking. My monkeying around hasn't produced a satisfactory solution, yet, either.

A related additional thing, which I can live without but that would be nice to have, is the description of the current parameter, which appears below the function description as shown highlighted below MsgBox (Prompt As Object, [Buttons as Microsoft.Visual Basic.MsgBoxStyle = MsgBoxStyle .DefaultButton1], [Title as Object = Nothing]) AsMicrosoft.VisualBasic.MsgBoxResult

Buttons: Optional. Numeric expression that is the sum of values specifying the number and type of buttons to display, the icon style to user, the identity of the default button, and the modality of the message box. If you omit Buttons, the default is zero. This is my first post. I'm relatively new to VB .Net.

Close MsgBox And Continue Program?

Mar 5, 2009

I am using the MsgBox Function as a help on my program to notify users of unusable entries in my program. After the MsgBox pops up, and the user clicks on either 'OK' or 'Cancel', the program need to clear the box that the bad data was entered in, and continue with the program. What I am trying to do I guess is keep the program from returning unusable values by informing the user of entries that will return such values. But, where I am running into a problem is in when I click on OK or Cancel, the program continues as if nothing was called as a result of the MsgBox info being thrown.

Here is the code I have so far, mind you that I have used several of the other MsgBox codes to no avail.

I think what I need to do is have a line of code that calls my "textbox.clear" if certain criteria are met. but when I tried this, the program did not return to my GUI, it simply ran with a value of "0" in the "textbox.text" that the clear was called on.

Create A Form Which Interacts With Program Exactly Same As Msgbox?

May 1, 2011

1) the program has to display multiple lines, is there any possibility for me to add some sort of scroll bars to the msg box and fix its size to lets say (infinite horizontal because i limit the char of each line already)600vertical.And if theres more text than the textbox vertical to display scrollbars like a richtextbox? is such thing possible? if not

2) How could i create a form which interacts with the program exactly the same as a msgbox, by that i mean a way to not interact with any other form but the msgboxform untill the msgbox form is hidden. I do not want to disable the other forms or hide them, because a msgbox does not do that, a msgbox just doesnt let u interact with anything untill its pressed "OK" button, and if u try to interact with something else a beep happens and the msgbox flashes, is such thing doable?

3)How could i hide a msgbox and inputbox programatically? imagine the user is afk and doesnt press OK, with a timer tick i want to automatically erase the msgbox out of the way. Is such thing possible? if i need a form, it really is a musthave for me to someway pause the code of the other form the same way a msgbox does.

Capture Url When IE Exits?

Aug 5, 2010

I want to allow my user to add urls to a database, much as a user might add file names. I have a form with a label, a textbox, and a browse button. I would like the browse button to load the user's default browser and then have the final url appear in the textbox when the browser closes. I have not been able to do that, but I have come close. I have not found a way to capture the url from an arbitray browser, so I instead load ie.exe and then capture the url with an OnQuit handler. That works (even verified by the debugger) but I am unable to get the url to appear in the textbox without actually clicking in the textbox once ie closes. I would like a suggestion as to how to avoid making my user click in the textbox and, if possible, to load the user's default browser and still capture the url. Here is my code for the Browse button (IE is defined at the class level as Dim WithEvents IE As SHDocVw.InternetExplorer):

theURL = ""
IE = New SHDocVw.InternetExplorer
AddHandler IE.OnQuit, AddressOf HandleIEQuit

Updating Webservice With Objects When App Exits?

Jun 13, 2011

Im working on a silverlight application where a user can create, edit, delete objects. The changes they make are placed in a queue which is processed every 4 minutes. When it is processed, the updates are sent over an async web method call to be saved in a sql database, one at a time. When the first update finishes, the next starts.Im having a problem when a user makes a change and then exits the browser app before the 4 minute timer has expired.Currently the changes are getting lost.Ive built on what the guy working on this before me has done, and explored the Dispose and Finalize methods, trying to start the update process when the factory is being shut down, but that isnt working due to the async nature of the web service calls. I get errors saying needed objects have already been disposed of.

VS 2010 Determining When A Thread Exits?

Nov 23, 2011

I'm running a bunch of automated tasks in a thread I'm creating via the Thread class. So I'm not using a BackgroundWorker.

During parts of the automation, the thread may exit. This is normal. But when the thread completes, I need to finish up some additional tasks. I can anticipate all of the conditions in which the thread closes, but I'd rather not to do the final tasks at each point, as this will create a lot of redundant code.

So instead, I wanted to write an event that is triggered when the thread exits. I looked through the Thread class, but all I could find was the ThreadState property, which has a Stopped property. But, when I try to add a handler to that property, it doesn't allow me.
