I am pretty new on regular expressions, but as far as I've been wandering around Google, the only thing I could do to solve my problem is through regex. I have a collection of strings which have patterns like these:
"3 - Orange, Lemon"
"4 - Pineapple, Orange"
"12 - Lime, Strawberry"
[Code]...
Only the first few numbers. A comment, suggestion, or point to the right links/articles would help because so far I couldn't manage to find a decent tutorials that easy to understand.

I included all the code this time. In calculate click event the value is zero and I don.t understand where I went wrong. My work is due tomorrow, if anyone can tell me why I can not extract the price from the string. What this program is doing is taking items from the stockListBox and adding them to the shoppingList Box then extracting the price from the shoppingListBox and adding the prices together.

Consider the text: "The precipitation will be 2-3 cm".I need to extract the integers 2 and 3 and seperate them in order to compute their average (i.e. (2+3)/2 = 1.5).Can someone help me with a regular expression which would extract the integers 2 and 3 and seperate them. I also need to know if there is any other way to do it other than regular expression.

I came across a post a while back which showed a custom rich textbox control which had line numbers in its margin. Similar to what you woudl see if you we coding in the VB designer and you had your line numbers viewable.
I think it was two controls in one (i.e. two textboxes: one for the numbers, and the other for the text). However I cannot remember where I saw it.

Forgive me but i have a noob question, I cant seem to get my head around.I have a textbox.text string as "111.1, 22.2, 3333.3, 444.44" What I want to is extract the numbers which may be random lengths, but all separated by a comma to
dim i1st number as Integer
dim i2nd number as Integer
dim i3rd number as Integer
dim i4th number as Integer
I know how to search for one instance of a string in a string but taking the 1st part to the comma, then the next comma and so on is confusing me.

I just D/L VB express 8, and I'm trying to learn how to use it. what I'm trying to do is write some code that:takes a number into a text box (textbox1.text)do some simple calculations with that number when I press a button (button1)display the results in a second text box 9textbox2.textThe first problem I am having:The numbers are in the "milli" range, meaning to the power of negative three, so 10^-3 = 0.01 I do not want to enter 10^-3 or any other exponent into the textbox, I am simply entering in 10 because all my units will be in milli. I've tried using exponent and scientific notation but it doesn't calculate correctly. I've done a "work around" to get it to do what I want, but there has to be a simpler way to achieve the above results without. for example, the user enters 10 into the textbox, the button multiplies 10^-3 *30, as a crude example, and stroes that value (say, B=10^-3*30) and B is DIM B as Double.
Problem number two:Error checking. I need to validate that only numbers can be entered into the textbox, or else the program will display an error message (messagebox). I can achieve this to some degree with sample code from here and other places, but, some of the code does not take into account that some numbers have decimal places (I have foud code that does, and it does work), but if a users enters, say the letter "E", it crashes the program. If the user enters "10.3Z", it crashes the program. I cannot seem to code for the last case, a mixture of numbers and letters to get an error message box.

I'm trying to make it so that a textbox, label, or picturebox can move from the left side of the form to the right and off the form, then reappear again on the left side like a circular loop.. It kinda looks like how news channels like CNN or NBC have stocks sliding on the bottom of the screen. Or how at the NY Stock Exchange, theres stocks just rolling through those LED displays. I want to do that in my program but I don't know how. So far I got it to only go to the right, then when it reaches the end of the form, it reverse directions so it goes left and right to the end of the form.

Is there any way to push the left padding on a multi-line text box to the left to be in line with the left justified padding on a single line text box? It is frustrating as it looks off-kilter with the multi-line text indented as it is.

I have a textbox where the user inputs the employee number, but it must only accept numbers.
I have coded some lines in the textbox's TextChanged event and almost have it. but when I adjust it to eliminate other characters it triggers itself (recursive). that is not a big problem since the second time does nothing but I dont like the unprofessional way its handled.
But the real problem is that I cant get it to stay "blank" when the user erases all my code always puts "0" on the texbox.
Another thing is that when a non-numeric key is pressed, after the code dismissis it, the cursor goes to the start of the textbox messing up the input.
