Fill A NEW DataSet's DataTable With Data From A DataGridView?
Jan 6, 2010
fill a NEW DataSet's DataTable with data from a DataGridView? I am generating a data report that uses that "new DataSet." I need to go from a DataGridView to a DataSet because i need the person to be able to perhaps edit the information before its inserted into the report. my process to generate the report is...
- fill datagridview with advanced join sql
- allow user to edit datagrid if necessary
- put datagrids modified information in new dataset
- set report's databinding source to new dataset
- generate report...
I'm using VB.net 2005 and sql server 2000 i'm fetching the data into datagridview, but datagridview has several datasource depending on the "select case " Now can i export the data from datagridview without referring to dataset/datatable?
this is more a theoretical question i asked myself.I remembered that BinarySearch of an ordered List(Collection in general) is faster than finding Rows with Datatable.Rows.Find or DataTable.FindByPK with a primary key value.Hence i fill a Datatable from Database in a shared constructor and immediately after that a List(of Int32) that contains all primary keys from that table. Later i will check with BinarySearch if the List contains primary-key values. But because the datatable contains only the PK-Column anyway, i asked myself if there is a way to avoid the huge overhead of filling a Datatable and after that adding all Rows to a List. Is it possible to fill a generic List(or other collection-type) instead of a Datatable/Dataset directly from a Dataadapter?Maybe i'm off the track and there is another way to avoid the Extra-Loop that i'm missing.

I have tried everything I can to get beyond this error which shows below as <<<<< error here. It is trying to fill a dataset from a data adapter. If I change the SELECT statement to just SELECT * FROM xTable I get the correct number of records in each table. But anytime I try with a more complex statement I get the error message shown below which indicates System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet. I've completely erased all data and entered a new set of test data so I know there is no problem with relationships. Each table has primary key which is foreign key in other table. IS there something wrong with the Imports section: Imports System
I am working on VB.Net. I have a sub form with a datagridview, that is being loaded with the criteria taken from another form. Hence this form is called with parameters. Here is the code that calls the sub form.
[code]...
where ds is the dataset to fill the datagridview and rb is the string from a radio button on this form.
Here is the code in the sub form.
[code]...
Now, I need to refresh this sub form every -- minutes, depending on how the user wants it to be. For this I have given a NumericUpDown control to select the mins. All this works fine. But how do I refresh the dataset and the datagridview?
I want to add a new select command to my dataset. To do that, I have added a new partial class to my project. Because we have to use partial class if we want to extend generated dataset codes. [code]...
I need to fill a datatable(in data set) row by row by providing the the data by variables in VB.Net. The variables assigns its value by loop.. so the datatable row should be filled row by row until the loop ends. There are three columns in the table. so the table should fill with different kind of datatype variables.
I have a datagridview bounded to a bindingsource (that is, in turn, bounded to a dataset that is the data origin of the project) and a bindingnavigator to a Access table, all of this done with the visual designer of Visual Basic .net 2005. I want to print in a crystal report the rows shown in the datagridview after filtered using the .filter property of the datagridview. But, to achieve this, I need to get the filtered rows in a dataset, and I havenīt got this in any way. If I pass to the crystal report the main dataset origin of the project, it will print all the rows, not only the filtered rows. I would have figured out that there would be a .getfilteredrows or something like that in the bindingsource object, but there isnīt. I managed to get this manually, through a loop, but I canīt believe it is the solution experts use.
Greetings, I have installed Oracle 10g Express Edition database on a server and install the client on my PC. Now, I`m developing a vb.net application using visual studio 2005 and I need to use the oracle 10g express edition database. SO I initialize the connection using the following connection string:
1. Can someone show me sample codes on how to do that ?
2. I encountered a problem with the INSERT sql statement. I keep receiving syntax error in insert statement exception. Is there anything wrong with the statement ?
I want to track changes in an application. So I've made a copy of the main table in that application, and am accessing both tables in the application using two separate datasets.
My plan was to use the HasChanges method of the main DataSet to get changed rows and then insert those into the copy table. When I run the code I get an error:
A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in MyApp.exe
Unable to cast object of type 'MainDataTable' to type 'MainAuditDataTable'.
Here's the code:
If Me.DataSet3.HasChanges Then ' 'look for each row that has changes, not new rows ' 'insert that row into the auditing table
I want to fill a DataGridView with data returned from a SQL. So here is my code [I provided cause some people may think I'm asking for help before trying myself]
I want the DataGridView to be filled by a data from SQL not to show all the records.[code]...
I am trying to add NewRow to the database by using datatable in dataset, but before I do that I want to make sure that row is not already there. I create new row for the datatable I am working with, fill it with information. I fill datatable with the row from database that has the same primary key as my NewRow by using tableadapter.fill method, but when I do that my NewRow that was never added to the datatable is filled with information from database(and not information that I assigned to it). I count rows in my datatable before I fill it and it's 0, so why is my NewRow affected by Fill command? (I am using VB.NET 2005 Framework 2.0)
I am trying to fill a label with data, using datagridview, from a specific row, cell. The commented out code works but is tedious and sequential, basically has to go row by row. Is there a way I can just say "hey, gimmee the data at x,y?" LOL Trust me, at one point I even tried that. All this must take place at form load so there is no click events involved.
Private Sub STAPLES_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Me.STAPLETableAdapter.Fill(Me.FSC_DATADataSet.STAPLE) [b]'THIS WORKS SEQUENTIALLY[/b] 'Me.TextBox1.Text = Me.STAPLEDataGridView.CurrentRow.Cells(0).Value.ToString.Trim 'Me.TextBox1A.Text = Me.STAPLEDataGridView.CurrentRow.Cells(1).Value.ToString.Trim [Code] .....
The second line will have numbers if other table has information about that customer reservations, or will be in 0 if not.I can load the first line of each pair, with the data of the "requested" items loading a datagrid with a datatable.
I encounter problem trying to retrieve Data from Excel to fill DataGridView. The BA specification is to open up Excel Spreadsheet to loop though the row and retrieve by row, column and fill DataGridVew.
These lines of coding generated this error message
If objSheet.Cells(excelRow, 0) = "" Then <-- error Exception From HRESULT : 0x800A03EC bolFlag = False End If
I am trying to fill a datagridview with data from a SQL database. The dgv will print rows and values where each row is a different category.
[VB CODE] Private Sub populatedgv1() 'setup temptable to store Server data Dim m_table As New DataTable

Why does it only print all the rows for each DS (different sizes/colors) only if there are more then one DS? (if there is only 1 DS it will only print one row, regardless of different colors/sizes but if there is 2 DS, it will print all the values from the first DS)I have gotten a massive headache from trying to figure out these 2 problems. If any1 can help I would be very grateful. Please let me know if you need anymore info (SQL tables, data), and I'll put them up.
I am trying to fill a DataGridView box with data from an Excel2007 spreadsheet. My code below connects to Excel2007 workbook but then errors and gives this error

Where have I gone wrong and how can I fix this, as I want to show the data in the DataGridView and then move it from there into my SQLServer DB?
I have created a Datagridview with 4 Columns, EJ: ID, Name, Quantity, other..But i want to fill these 3 Columns from MySQL EJ:[code]but this creates new columns and does not write to the existing, took a while looking for a solution but only find methods like this.
When the user clicks an "Edit" button on my form, I want a box to come up which allows the user to edit a DataTable in a strongly-typed DataSet. What's the best way to do this?
I have code running in the Datatable.ColumnChanging event in my dataset. This dataset underlies a form and conventional drag/drop controls are in place for data entry.when the event triggers and runs, I am running code in the form that checks the dataset.HasChanges property. It is showing False. But this is immediately after the ColumnChanging event has been triggered.Okay, I see by others posts and MSDN that .HasChanges will only be true after moving off the row with the changed column. I have also noted lots of discussion about the advanced binding property of DataSourceUpdate Mode, but that does not address this issue.I guess I can do this by checking the state of the row for the binding source. Just seems odd that the event behind the dataset can be triggered and that does not change the dataset.HasChanges property.
