View 7 RepliesI am trying to make a database, fill it with tables and then fill the tables. I am having problems connecting to the server and am really not sure why. I have posted this thread in two areas of this site because I was not sure what was the best area to put it in. [code]
View 3 RepliesI need to fill a datatable(in data set) row by row by providing the the data by variables in VB.Net. The variables assigns its value by loop.. so the datatable row should be filled row by row until the loop ends. There are three columns in the table. so the table should fill with different kind of datatype variables.
View 1 RepliesI wrote an application that connect to a SQL Server Db and fill some tables in dataset and calculate some functions based on record's items. But I can't run this application on other pc correctly. some tables fills in dataset and I can retrieve the data, but some tables not fill.

View 1 RepliesI try to fill up a data grid view with records of two related tables. Beneath you can find the code I use to handle this.
The first table GemeentenT has the following columns.
GemeenteId Primary key
GemeentePostnummer

This is what I'm sure will be the first of many noob-ish questions from yours truly... I'm studying as a mature student for a Computing Degree (encompassing web design, hardware, programming and systems analysis). The programming seems to be my weak spot this year. I enjoyed C++ last year, doing basic console applications, but progamming visually with VB in Visual Studio 2008 I'm struggling!

I am trying to write the code needed to link two tables together. One table is a list box and the other table is a data grid view. What would the example of the code needed in order to link these tables together so that each time you click on an item in the list box, the data grid would then show the corresponding information that matches up with the selected item.

The remarked area works fine when I'm accessing a specific table. I've successfully inserted the products_model field into the combobox too. The datagridview does show the table names in the db using the SHOW TABLES sql statment, but I'm not understanding how to get this info into the combobox instead.
How to fill a TreeView from two related tables (Customers 1 -> Products n)? I have seen the example of microsoft using Northwin Database and I do not understand this, I need something simpler.
View 2 RepliesI have an Access 2003 DB and an SQL Server 2005 DB.
I have one datagridview where I want to present data from both databases.
My query would look like this:

ACCESS2003.NAME,
SQL2005.Resource_ID

I have a SQL Server database for which I have created a strongly-typed DataSet (using the DataSet Designer in Visual Studio 2008), so all the adapters and select commands and whatnot were created for me by the wizard.
It's a small database with largely static data, so I would like to pull the contents of this DB in its entirety into my application at startup, and then grab individual pieces of data as needed using LINQ. Rather than hard-code each adapter Fill call, I would like to see if there is a way to automate this (possibly via Reflection). [code]...
I am using VS2008 and SQLite. I have created a database and several tables and am attempting to populate the tables with data from arrays.
The following code (example) works fine but stops after it inserts 30 to 50 records. I am running the VB code in debug mode and when it stops, I press pause to see where it is. It stops on "SQLcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" and when I press continue (F5) it will insert another 30 to 50 records.
I do not get an error message. Is this a timeout issue? How do I keep the loop running to the end of the array?
Following is example code.
Dim
SQLconnect As New SQLite.SQLiteConnection()
Dim SQLcommand As SQLiteCommand

In VS 2008, VB.Net, I am successful connecting to a local SQL Server (version 8) and seeing all tables/views/procedures in Server Explorer. The local OS is Win XP Pro SP3. I created an ODBC data source to a remote SQL server (also version 8) with a database of the same structure as the local one. The connection tests out ok. The remote computer runs Windows Server 2000 SP4. In the VS 2008 Server Explorer I add this ODBC source. When I click on the plus-signs to expand items, neither the tables nor the views show anything, whereas the full list of procedures appears. Is it the old SQL Server version? Is it the old Server OS version? Something else alltogether?

I am trying to move through a list "TodaysCard" and print the TimeOfDay.ToString into the first column of every row and to only create the amount of rows that are needed. But am a bit of a novice when it comes to this and can only get it to display the TimeOfDay.ToString value for the first item in the list over and over again. Just wondering how I can get it to iterate through each item properly.

I have 2 linked DB tables, Artists and Albums using ArtistID as the primary/foreign key. When I want to add a new Album, I have a new form open and I can fill a combobox with the list of Artists to choose from and edit all the details then save to the database.
However, when I want to edit the Album info, I can't seem to get the Artist associated with the Album, as well as all the rest of the Artists from that table, (in case I need to change the Artist associated with the Album). The information required comes from 2 linked tables, so that's where I'm getting lost.An example of this is when a person edits their profile on a webpage, for instance, a list of countries is usually listed in a combobox and the one selected is the country they selected when filling out the form previously, however, they still have the option to change it.
I have one application create tables in database dynamically during run. Another application need to find all these tables' name in the database. how should in do in vb.net
View 7 RepliesI have just started to learn how to use SMO in some cases. Below is some code I found from a site to list the servers and databases for each. What I would like to do is go a step further and list all of the databases and stored procedures in their own listboxes when I select a database. I would like to not include the system ones or at least have a checkbox to decide to include them or not. I searched and could not find how to do this.
Here is the code I have so far:
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Server
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Management

I am trying to create a button on a form that will open a connection to a database and list all the tables in the database inside a listbox. Everything I have read indicates I can associate a single table to a form, and have no idea how to:
a. Create code for the button to access all the tables in the database.
b. Display that list in a list box.
The text that I am using is murach's ADO.NET 3 database programming with VB2010, and I am less that thrilled with it.
