Filter Data Based On The Drop Down Filters?

Jul 27, 2011

I am looking to find the best way to do the following: Filter data based on the drop down filters, as long as I am within the same product category (e.g. toys, puzzles, etc...), but in different web forms (product grid and product detail).So if I select toys under $25, I need the filter to the toys in a grid format, but if I click to view the detail I need the filter information so I can filter the related items display.Display certain filters depending on the product category.Right now I believe that if I build a user control and session variables that I should be able to accomplish this.

EDIT: Right now I am using the page_load event to update the data and would like to avoid AJAX for right now.

Way To Create Empty Data Table / Update Its Contents Based On Columns Not Add Data Based On Addition Of New Rows

Apr 6, 2011

I am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column.Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column.Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.

[2008] Datagridview - Filter The Grid Based On A Product Name

I have a datagridview that's taking a while to load because my table contains almost 5000 records. How can I provide an easy way for clients to filter the grid based on a product name. I was thinking of having labels with each alphabet on my form and when they click a label it filters the bindingsource according to the chosen alphabet. this seems like an awkward solution though.

VS 2008 Filter The BindingSource Based On Text Matches Between Any Of The Fields In The Child Table

I have a database with a table that is a child to many other tables. I am using this child table as a datasource for a datagridview. I am using comboboxes to display specific fields in any parent tables, instead of the user seeing the foreign key. Everything is fine. However, I would like to filter the BindingSource based on text matches between any of the fields in the child table and the corresponding fields of the parent tables.

Filter ComboBoxes DataSource Based On Another ComboBoxes Changes?

Oct 28, 2011

When the user selects something in cbxMethod the next combobox (cbxStudy) will be filled and so on. When the last combobox (cbxAnalyte) has a selected value I want to enable the button and give it focus so the user can move forward with the program. I basically want to force the user to move from one combobox to the other, until all are filled.I am currently using the SelectionValueChange event, but this event only fires when the user changes the value with their mouse or hits the Enter key, not when the user hits the Tab key.

Constraints On Generics With .Net?

Dec 14, 2011

I have the a function that is declared like so: Public Sub Modify(Of SIMType As {New, DAOBase})(ByVal obj As SIMType)

I also have a class called Products which is declared like so:

Public Class Products Inherits DAOBase

So as you can see, if I were to call this function like so:

Modify(Of Products)(new Products())

This would not be an issue. The issue actually arises when I try to cast the object being past in to its real type. For example: both do not work. I get a Value of type SIMTYPE cannot be converted to IMS.Products error. Im assuming this is because I am using generics. Is there a way to adjust my function to allow for a casting operation like I am trying to do? In the end, what I need is a reference of the actual type (Products in this case) to the object.

.NET Generic Constraints And Subclasses?

Sep 17, 2010

Consider the following extension method:

<Extension()> _
Public Function Satisfies(Of T)(ByVal subject As T, ByVal specification As ISpecification(Of T)) As Boolean
Return specification.IsSatisfiedBy(subject)
End Function

This works as expected if subject is the exact class being operated on by the specification. However, if the specification is examining the super-class of T, this extension will not work unless subject is explicitly cast to the super-class. Is there a way I can avoid this? So far, the best I've been able to come up with is:

[Code]...

Since I (apparently) can't get this to work exactly as I'd like in VB.NET due to limitations in the language itself, is my second attempt the safest/most efficient way to do this?

Filter Parent / Child Table In Linq Query Based On Entities In Child Table?

Jul 9, 2010

I have a table (Projects) which is linked to projectVersions on projectID..projectVersions contains several columns on which I'd like to filter a returned project (and associated projectVersions) list. For example there is a "capacity" column and a "country" column. I am doing a filtered list of projects on one page and I'd like to include all projects where any one of the associated projectVersions has a capacity of 750ml and a country of "France" for example.It may be that a particular parameter is not set and so I pass a zero to indicate not to filter on that.I guess this needs some kind of subquery as when I try and do something like this: [code] it doesn't work as the "xxx" bit, being one-to-many, expects me to specify an item to get at the entities within and yet I want to query where ANY of the associated versions match one of the criteria.

Asp.net - Enforcing Database Constraints In Application Code

Sep 16, 2011

I'm working on my first real asp.net web application and I'm kind of stumped on the best place and method to trap and handle database constraint violations. Suppose I have a unique constraint on a column and a user inputs something that would violate that unique constraint. Do I catch it in the business layer by making a call to the database to check of the value exists for that column or do I let it go all the way to the database and let it throw an exception and handle that in my application?

I don't like the latter answer- because it makes sense to handle as much as you can in the business layer before it reaches the database. But it's also somewhat problematic as my application is driven by procedures that implement basic CRUD operations on all tables. So in order for me to enforce uniqueness in the business layer, I need to create a procedure for every possible constraint so I can do a look up before an update or insert. That just seems tedious... and I'm duplicating business rules as they exist in both the database and the business layer, so if something changes, not only do I have to change the database, but I have to change the procedure and the application code.

So is there a right way or a good way to enforce these database constraints in application code or should I be looking at a way to catch exceptions thrown by the database and present them in a user-friendly way?

DataSet Bound To DGV - Failed To Enable Constraints

C# - How To Filter Data On ListView

Apr 4, 2012

I want to filter data on the textchange event on listview so I use dataview to filter data. Issue in the below code is, I use dataview inside for each so that it checks only one condition that is last value only it takes, I want to check value in s1 with dataview and remaining value should bind with listview. E.g.: if I type an in textbox it should list all the item values starting with an value like anandha kumar, anna etc. Suppose I keep the value anandha kumar and anna in array s1. I should list all other values expect the array values like antony etc... in listview.

protected void TextBox1_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) {
dvProducts = (DataView)Session["ListViewItems"];
string serachText = EscapeLikeValue(TextBox1.Text);
string lvValues = hdRetailCustomerGroup.Value;
string trim = lvValues.Replace(" ", "");

C# - SQL To Filter A SubSet Of Data?

Jun 2, 2010

I have an arraylist that holds a subset of names found in my database. I need to write a query to get a count of the people in the arraylist for certain sections i.e. There is a field "City" in my database from the people in the arraylist of names I want to know how many of them live in Chicago, how many live in New York etc.

how I might set up an sql statement to handle this. I think somehow I have to pass the subset of names to sql somehow.

Here is a sample how I am writing my sql in my code

Public Shared Function GetCAData(ByVal employeeName As String) As DataTable
Dim strQuery As String = "SELECT EMPLID, EMPLNME, DISP_TYPE, BEGIN_DTE FROM Corr WHERE (EMPLNME = @name)"

[Code]....

I need a way to create a function using your sql statement to return a datatable object of names and the parameters would be city, and the List of names.

The above example isnt the sql I am looking for its just a skeleton of what the function would look like that I want to create.

So then you would use the function by iterating through all the cities passing in the same set of names each time in the fron end.
