Where do I find the references and what types are the variables in this example. I copied the code into a new VB 2008 windows project, and all the vaiables and some method calls have "is not declared" wavy lines.
I am trying out Modi but i cant seem to find the references to add. I have office2k7 but cant find Microsoft Office Document Imaging 12.0 Type Library in com tab. Also cant find the dll in C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedMODI

It does not 'Find all References', it only finds references in the language in which the functionwas written Perhaps the text could be revised to state its actual functionality?

Example there are 6 USB ports on my motherboard what code would I use to find their reference like, port 1 is called 0 and port 2 is called 1. I want a user to select a designated port and save the selection to a config file so that whenever the user plugs in a removable diskdrive into that specific port a dialogue box will popup asking the user if they want to backup their designated folder (path will also be saved in config file) to that removable diskdrive. I know how to do everything like copying the folder to the diskdrive and all that I just need a code snippet to find the system reference to the USB ports.

View 1 RepliesI've used the right-click "find all references" to quickly show find symbol results for objects, subs and functions in my projects. Today it stopped working in the main asp.net solution I'm working on (in other projects, "find all references" works without problem). Everytime I try to search I get "search found no results". If I right click on reserved words, matches are returned but any of my code returns nothing.
The project builds without issue and I can use the regular Find and replace dialog.
In VB.NET I would like to create a complicated data structure with multiple types of data stored in an array like format (see below). I am trying to create a data structure that would look something like this: [Name; xLoc; yLoc; zLoc; [Jagged Array]] Note: Name needs to be dimensioned as a string, xLoc and so forth as integers. In my project there are lot of variables, and some of them are not used at all.I want to clean up the code by removing these unused variables. These variables are not shown as unused when i build the application. The problem is with the global variables, and not with the local varible for a function .Is there a method to find these unused variables?

The following scenarios worked perfectly in 2008:1) Clicking on a variable and performinFind All References on it would properly find all references across thesolution (consisting of multiple projects).Doing the same thing in 2010 seems to only check the current project and not across the entire solution. Temporary fix which sometimes work is to perform a rebuild. This action was never needed in 2008.Doing the same thing in 2010 will open the Object Browser and not put focus as it did in 2008.
View 1 RepliesI have a class with a Property called 'Value' which is of type Object.Value can be of any type, a structure, a class, an array, IList etc.My problem is with the setter and determining whether the value has changed or not.This is simple enough for value types, but reference types and lists present a problem.For a class, would you assume that the Equals method has been implemented correctly, or just assume that the value has changed every time the setter is called?If I did assume it's changed, then perhaps I should assume it for value types as well, so that the behaviour is consistent.

Last year (2010) I came across a FANTASTIC command that allowed me to take a string of variables with a common delimiter and break it all back out into separate variables (possibly an array) with one statement.

As long as the delimiter was a unique specifiable character, this one-statement command could break it out into elements. my memory and point me in the right direction.
I have code, shown below, that works all except for 1 thing: The variables being passed byRef get passed, but once modified in the else section of the "if me.invokerequired" code of RecordData, the variables are never updated in the calling function. To reiterate, the calling function does not receive the updated data that is in the variables custid and amt.When debugging, I see the data change in the else section of "if me.invokerequired", but once it returns from the callback the data is missing.[code]

Private Class MyClass
Private var1 as Decimal
Private list1 as List(Of string)[code].....
But I found that after this form is closed, all above variables, var1, list1, list2 still exist in memory. I thought they should be collected by gc since the form is already disposed as I confirmed.
Add: I have monitored half an hour after the form is closed. But these variables are not collected by gc. I have an automatic update procedure on the form which uses above variables.Since the above variables still hold values, the automatic update procedure is always called which causes exception. (One quick fix is to check if form.isDisposed in update procedure. But I do not think this is elegeant. Besides, these variables occupy memory.)
Does the memory used in declaring variables are reclaimed by the OS when these variables go out of scope?Does the memory used be released by setting thier value to nothing? if not, then how can I force the garbage collector to run or excecute at a certain/desired time..How about in Windows Forms..How can we make sure that the memory used in initializing and showing forms be released if those forms were closed?

Question 2: I noticed while using, AddressOf _Function_, variables cannot be passed; what would be an efficient solution to this?
Question 3: While using multithreading is it required to invoke before setting variables, or only form properties?
Question 4: While using System.Net.Sockets is it safe/efficient to use Application.DoEvents while waiting for new data; or would be using a Do While loop be fine without DoEvents since the action would be multithreaded? Note: there can be up to 2000-3000 sockets in use at a time.

View 3 RepliesOver and over i keep getting stuck on the idea of adding references to a project. I was looking about visual studios 2010, i clicked the project menu tab, and then scrolled to add reference. When i would click on it, it would bring up a large list to choose from. So, my issue is as follows. I am told to reference via my compile error message a few items. I thought i found the elements i was looking for and pressed OK. When i would try to run, it would still give me the errors.
What am i doing wrong? Am i not doing something correct?

I have a function GetAllProducts() which fetches all products from a database and stores it in the cache for future requests. This works fine, but if I then call the function e.g. ProductSearchResults = GetAllProducts(), and then modify ProductSearchResults variable, this also modifies the cache, which is very important this never happens, as the cache affects the whole website.
I understand this is because both ProductSearchResults and the cache now have the same reference, but how do I solve the problem? Is there something that I can put in GetAllProducts() to ensure the cache always uses its own value?

View 3 RepliesI have a project that uses web references to make SOAP calls to several web services. When I'm working locally, the services are hosted on my local machine, so the URL of each web service is something like [URL]. When I deploy the project to a server, the URL needs to change to the production URL. Currently I am accomplishing this with a prebuild event that does a find-and-replace on each URL and overwrites it with the deployment URL before deploying. Surely there is a better way.
