Formclosing - When My Form Is Closing, The Checkchanges() Always Show No Changes, Even When I Made Changes
Aug 16, 2011
when closing the form, checkchanges() is run in order to check if there is data changes..in checkchanges(), i compare data in database and form..if data in form is not same as in database, it consider data has been changed..thus, if there is changes, user will be promt to save data before close..the problem is, when my form is closing, the checkchanges() always show no changes, even when i made changes..this is because, when data is compared (between database and form), the form is already commit changes in database..that is why , when data is compared, it is actually compare the same value...
For example:
*when form load*
database: employee number = 1009
textbox: employee number = 1009
[CODE]...
That is why checkchanges() always show no changes.because it commit changes to database before it made comparison..what should i do to prevent from commit changes when form is closing?
I'm trying to give the user a chance to cancel FormClosing of MDI Parent by throwing a "Are you sure?" msgbox with an e.cancel however when FormClosing is invoked by MDI Parent, all MDI Children close first, before the msgbox appears.
I was wondering if there's an easier way to prevent MDI Children from closing rather than having to e.cancel every child form's FormClosing until I get a positive response to close and then push all the close events on the children because that seems like too much of a hassle if you have a lot of MDI Children.
EDIT: I guess the only solution I can find is adding If e.CloseReason = CloseReason.MdiFormClosing Then e.Cancel = True to the FormClosing event and using ApplicationExit instead.
Dim frm As Form For Each frm In Forms Set frm = Nothing Next frm
The above code is what I used in VB6 to close all forms associated with my programs before my program closed. I have been searching for information on how to make sure all forms are closed when closing a VB2008 program.
I have seen info on using the Project Property Shutdown mode When startup form closes and I currently have this set.
Is this all that is really necessary? Will the garbage disposal close everything else to free up RAM?
Also, if I have several forms open and want to close all from the main form without closing each one individually, what is the best approach? Is there a collection like in VB6, go through the collection, compare it to the name of the main form and close it if it is not the main form?
I have a simple Windows Form that hosts property controls at runtime. When the user clicks Close [X] I want to keep the window and its contents alive rather than killing it by handling the FormClosing event, canceling the event and simply hiding the form.
That's fine but at close of the application I need to actually close the window. I implemented the below but it feels kludgey. Is there a simpler, more clever way to handle this situation? (The form's controller calls KillForm explicitly after it receives a closing event from the main window.)[code]...
I have the following code to close a form which is a child. The problem is that when it closes, it closes the MDI parent too.
Private Sub frmTransaction_Closing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles MyBase.Closing If ListView1.Items.Count >= 1 Then
ctually i make a 4 column in datagridview now i want the four columns of table come in same columns in datagridview but when i show data in gridview it add more 4 columns and show data in those 4 column
Dim FormTwo As New Form2 FormTwo.ShowDialog() Close()[code].....
if I use Application.Exit, it will close all 3 forms.. But all I want to use is Close so that every time I show the Form2, it will close the Form1 first.. the same when I show the Form3, it will close the Form2 first.
Alright, I have a vb6 LEGACY application and new Functionality (Form) written in c#. I have a VB.NET COM Class as a wrapper. I can launch the .NET Form just fine. THe problem I am having is closing the .net form from vb6.
Example:
In VB6, I have something like this:
CODE:
But it does not work becuase frmViewer is Nothing for some reason. how I should close the .NET form that was launched from VB6?
I have a parent form that has a list of items and each item has a unique ID. The user can open one or many of the items in a child form (it is set up in a tabbed MDI), but it can only open one instance of each item at a time.
In the parent form, I was going to make a collection (or something like that, maybe there is a better way) to keep track of which items are open in the child forms. I need to know when each child is closed so that it can be removed from the collection and reopened at a later time. I was thinking that when the child form closes, it somehow does something (like raise an event) that tells the parent form to remove the unique ID from the list of current open child forms.
My questions are, is this a good way to do this and I am pretty sure I would use the form closed event in the child form to update that parent form, but as well, I didn't know if this is the best way of handling it.
If raising the event is a good way, are some examples on how to do it out there? I found some for controls, but not while the form is closing/closed.
I made a form with a width of 600 and a height of 600. When to "Paint' event andwrote"e.Graphics.DrawLine(Pens.Blue,0,0,Me.Width,Me.Height). I expected a line from the top left conner to the bottm right corner. NO NO NO it fell short on the x(width) axis. I do not know who came up with drawing in boxes, but I HATE IT.
I have made a form to connect to a SqlServer but i have hit a dead end as the PHPMyAdmin password table is encrypted so the Login only works when you enter the encrypted password in. Is they anyway to decode the password so the password can be read?
I am working on a project that has the user building scrapbook pages through several different forms. When the user selects something a presses a button I have the information about the selection load to a list box which is on a CheckoutForm. One of the options I have is for the user to save what they have made (this includes the information in the list boxes) and return to a previous form to build another page. I have been trying to use the Me.Close() but it does not save the information and using Me.Hide() displays the wrong elements on the forms.
i have a parent form which is having a grid view. In the KeyDown event of the grid view i am calling a child form. If the user closed the child form, my application should close both the parent form and child form. What i have done is, i declared a boolean in the child form and passed the boolean value to parent. May be the code below will give the picture of what i am trying to do.
Private Sub gvJournalEntryDet_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles gvJournalEntryDet.KeyDown
I have a unique challenge that I just cannot seem to get by...I have a form with a series of listboxes that allows the user to rename items in the listbox (I probably should be using a listview control instead). When the user right-clicks and selects rename from the context menu I show a simple form with two labels & text boxes showing the selected list box item in one textbox...the other is blank waiting for the user to enter a new name. What I'd like to do is when the user closes the rename form, the information is passed back to the calling form and a listbox refresh method is fired to show the changed name. Couple question:
First, is there an easier method to implement the renaming concept in a listbox (probably should be using a list view) i.e., have I overcomplicated things?
I have 2 forms. When a user clicks something on form1, form2 pops up. After user is done with form2 and closes it (where the dataset is updated), I want form1 to "reload" the dataset to reflect changes made in form2.
I'm building a form with just a combo box in it that contains a list of other forms that I made. I want to program the combo box so that if a user opens it and clicks on "Web Browser", that form with the combo box will close and the web browser that I made will open. Another example is that if a user selects "Media Player" from that combo box, the form with the combo box will close and the media player that I made will open. How would I program the combo box to do this?
I have designed a complaints form for my work (free of charge just for my cv). I designed the form for the resolution 1280 x 1024. My problem is when a user with a smaller resolution say 800 x 600 uses it. The form will be out of sync with the screen as shown below (tested on my on computer). So I am wondering is there a way to test the screen size of the users computer then readjust the size of my controls according to the size of the screen. By the way all of my controls are anchored so that they stay in the same place.
I a suppose to when the user closes form1 display a messagebox. The messagebox should ask the user if they are sure. If they click yes let them close the form otherwise do not let them. This is the code I have
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim result As DialogResult
I have this notepad that is all ready to go now except for one thing..when the user uses the X to close the form she does get a confirm exit without saving changes dialog box, the problem is that she did in fact save her changes. So for some UnGodly reason ...,, my event is not picking up the fact that changes have been made.lution to this?? I have been up and down the net LOL..looking for ONE that works here is the code that I have going on for that event:
Private bIsChanged As Boolean = True #Region "events" Private Sub frmMyNotes_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As
I have to write some code for my app that if the application crashes or my machine crashes or for whatever reason the application closes abnormally and the user was in the process of making changes, I need to write some code that will at least ask the user if they wish to save their changes to the database.
With that said, what I have done thus far is set a flag in specific "TextChanged" events of certain controls. When the above scenario happens, I check this flag in the "FormClosing" event. In testing this, I selected a record from a DataViewGrid which then populated certain controls where this flag is set. I realize that at that point the "TextChanged" event is fired because the fields receive a value and that boolean flag is set to "True".
My issue is that this flag gets set even though the controls get populated but no physical data changes have been made. So, what I'm wondering is whether or not their is another event I can check other than the "TextChanged" event that will truly detect if any new changes have been made and at that point set the boolean flag to "True".
Form1 is a mdi container. It has a bunch of forms that can load inside of it as mdi children. If I close each open form inside the form1, and then click the red X at the top right, application exits fine.If I click the red X without closing the forms inside I get: An unhandled exception of type 'System.CannotUnloadAppDomainException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
Additional information: Error while unloading appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131015) However I can break from it. How do I get the application to not show that error? What must I do to fix those inside forms or close when the red x is clicked?
Im on project about database and I actually im facing 2 major problems.#1I made a form where the user can create a new record.Actually a new product like :
Public Class newgame'Dim cmd As OleDb.OleDbCommand = New OleDb.OleDbCommand("INSERT INTO clients(name,surname,address,phone home,mobile phone,e-mail,memo) VALUES (' " + TextBox1.Text + " ' , ' " + TextBox2.Text + " ',' " + TextBox3.Text + "','" + TextBox4.Text + "','" + TextBox5.Text + "','" +
I am having Socket server, and I have two forms. One is the main form for the server and the other one is a custom made messagebox. When a request comes to the server the main form has to invoke the second form (messagebox). When the main form is open for the first time everything works fine. But when I close the main form without closing the application and open it again and request comes to the server the custom made messagebox opens but it freezes and looks like this:
