how can i get the currently interactive logged user from a windows service?
note that i want the logged user (not the system account of the windows service) and the logged user, may be, is more than one (so i cant just get the owner of explorer.exe).
How can an application, running on a production server, access the login username of the machine that a user is accessing an application from? For example, I am currently logged into my machine on the INTRA corporate intranet. My username will be INTRAUsername. View 3 RepliesI have a client/server application running in a windows domain environment, the client application is started at log on by a scheduled task using domain admin credentials, i need to be able retrieve the username of the user who logged onto the workstation but all the methods i have tried returns the user that was used to execute the program.I have tried:
Environment.UserName
System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name
Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("USERNAME")
All of these return the account i used to run the application, not the user who is logged on.
I can access the current Windows user, but I want to give an admin the ability to enter an alternate username and password for a different Windows Active Directory Account without having to logoff and log back in. Once the account is authenticated, I need to use it in a connection string to sql server. I know I could do this for a SQL Server login, but this is Windows Authentication only. It was installed with ClickOnce. Is there an .exe file on the user's machine?

View 8 Repliesi have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?

Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?
We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?

I've tried Application Pools with 'Network Service', with Named Accounts and setting the pipeline mode to 'Integrated' and 'Classic'. The above code works properly in Server 2003/IIS6, but I haven't been able to make it work on Windows Server 2008R2/IIS 7.5.

I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. For some directories (network directories / protected directories) credentials are needed to access them.
I can setup different jobs in the program to run at specific times.
These jobs are stored in an XML file.
I want to also store the usernames and passwords which the jobs will need.
What and where would be the best way to store these?
Changing permissions on the directories is not an option.

I'm writing a windows service (MacTimeFix.exe) to fix the Windows time on a Macintosh (it's like this: i live in Moscow (GMT+03:00), and Mac OS thinks that the system time is GMT+00:00 and adds 03:00 to it< and Windows thinks that system time is the local time).I need to execute my code when my VB app is closed. (it happens with the shutdown of Windows) The form is invisible (hidden), and the user mustn't click anything except windws shutdown button. It is a service. When i write a Form1_FormClosing sub, it works only on Alt+F4 or CloseButton and doesn't work when the app is stopped from Windows Task Manager or whatever also.I need a way to execute sub when app is closed with taskkill (without /force) or a way to execute a several app on Winshutdown.
