C# - Decompiling .Net Assembly Produces Code With Invalid Member Variable Names; Names Starting With $STATIC$?

Sep 5, 2011

I am doing work for a client who has lost the source code for one of their VB.Net WinForms applications. The assembly they have is not obfuscated at all. I am trying to recover as much of the source as I can as C# source and have tried several tools for decompiling assemblies, including Reflector, ILSpy and JustDecompile (all the latest versions), but they all produce code with a huge number of errors in them. Because of the large number of errors in the generated code, I am going to ask about the specific errors (in different questions), get more directed answers and in this way try shed some light on why all the tools are having difficulty decompiling this assembly. This question pertains to the fact that the code generated by all these tools always have a large number of invalid member variables (fields) such as the following:

private short $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$nHeight;
private ArrayList $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$oColumnLefts;
private StaticLocalInitFlag $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$oColumnLefts$Init;

why the generated code has these invalid member variables?

Read File Names From Directory

Feb 15, 2012

it has been a while since I have asked a question here so I thought now would be a great time to do so. I am creating an application that loops through the file names of a specific directory, in this case, the System32 folder. I want the program to compile a list of the file names and then I want the file names to be displayed on a Timer_Tick event so the name will change on every tick. If anyone could provide a snippet of code to achieve this that would be great. I have been researching and debugging all night with no luck.

Changing Directory Names For Saved Solution?

Feb 7, 2012

I am on my second project. I made the mistake of trying to use my first project as a template thinking there was a 'Save All As...' which I found there wasn't.

I went through the whole project and now it is forcing me to use the folder names that everything is saved in from my first project and my professor wants the directories named a certain way.

If I try and change the names of the folders, then upon re-opening my solution I get errors because the directory has changed.

Is there a way for me to change the directory names and not have my program fall apart? Or re-direct it where to look after I change the folder names?

Open Directories To Compare Directory / File Names And Other Properties?

Aug 16, 2010

I have several groups of files with idential names, but the files inside may or may not have identcal names, and may differ only in the size or date stamp. I want to combine them to save all unique directory names, and unique file names, and if the date/sizes are unique, then add some number on the end of the file name to make them unique as well. Only idential file sizes and names and dates will be discarded. How do you open directories to compare directory/file names and other properties?

Prevent Directory.GetFiles() From Searching Short File Names?

Jun 9, 2012

I have a directory 'C:Test' with three files in it:

A23456789.txt
A1.txt
G 5.txt

And I run this command:

Dim FileArr = Directory.GetFiles("C:Test", "*1.txt", SearchOption.AllDirectories)

All three files are returned.I understand that this is by design and .NET searches the 8.3 short file names as well.But is there any way to override this and search the actual file names only?Surely, in this day and age there must be a function to do this. Or do I have to write my own?I would like the search function to have the same behavior as the Windows Explorer for consistency.

Import Path Names From SQL DB Then Export To Different Folder

Dec 13, 2010

I'm fairly new to programming and have little to no experience with sql and file transfers. Here's what I'm trying to do:
1. Link my program to a database containing images (or pathnames to images)
2. Allow user to select a starting image and ending image (max 50) based on image numbers (which they already know)
3. Collect selected images from DB or could just be a copy of the image.
4. Export images to a new folder so that my other program can process and OCR them
I have the form built, but I just can't figure this out.

Show File Names From A Folder In A Textbox?

i think this selects everything, how could i have two variables, one to store what table to update and the other what column. is this possible?edit: sorry for being unclear im trying to make this as dynamic as possible so i dont have to type in the exact table/col names. something like this but in the linq to sql syntax.

mysql_query("SELECT * FROM ". $table ." WHERE `" . $column . "` = "" . $data ."");

Creating Variable Names From Other Variables?

May 20, 2010

how do I DIM a variable's name using previously declared string varialbes? I have been using PERL for processing data stored in text files but I now have a business need to use VB2008. I would like to do something like this:

dim name1 as string = "ABCD"
dim name2 as string = "123"

'here is the part that I don't know how to do - create a 3rd variable name concatenated from name1 and name2:

dim string.concat({name1,name2}), or maybe use a counter in a line like 'dim namex as string' with x being a counter value.

Essentially I want to dim variables using text strings extracted from a file. In PERL I have declared literals and arrays, such as 'my @$name1', which creates an array named with the contents of $name1. In VB2008 I am not sure how to make this work with the DIM statement.
