Changing Directory Names For Saved Solution?
Feb 7, 2012
I am on my second project. I made the mistake of trying to use my first project as a template thinking there was a 'Save All As...' which I found there wasn't.
I went through the whole project and now it is forcing me to use the folder names that everything is saved in from my first project and my professor wants the directories named a certain way.
If I try and change the names of the folders, then upon re-opening my solution I get errors because the directory has changed.
Is there a way for me to change the directory names and not have my program fall apart? Or re-direct it where to look after I change the folder names?

I have two projects that contain extension methods. One project is implemented using C# and the other is implemented using VB.NET as there are some things I can do in VB.NET that I can't in C# and I want to leverage those features in my extension methods. How can I name the projects to convey their meaning while at the same time differentiating that they are implemented in different languages?For the C# elitists:One of the features that VB.NET supports that C# doesn't:Doesn't C# Extension Methods allow passing parameters by reference?FYI: This doesn't work for reference types, which is what I'm interested in.

There is an older version of the software which works fine on all of our deployment platforms, but the version I am trying to push out is working fine on 32-bit desktop installations, but is crashing-and-burning when it attempts to access Crystal Reports and Informix installed DLLs on a 64-bit machine, running terminal server sessions (yeah, I know, could I change anything more about the deployment platform?)One of the suggested avenues of investigation was changing the solution platform from "Any CPU" to x86.On attempting to do this, Visual Studio seems to stop being able to connect the partial classes constructed by XAML objects, with objects declaring that they have no "InitializeComponent" methods, and then failing on down the line until I reach the maximum number of errors.
Oddly, changing the solution platform, and then rebuilding in Expression Blend compiles just fine. Changing the platform back to AnyCPU makes the problem disappear. All projects have compile and debug configurations set to Active. I can't see any reason why simply changing the targeted platform would stop the XAML from generating partial classes Okay, it seems to be that there are some external DLLs to the project, and that those are the cause of what I'd call the first-level compilation failure, as they don't seem to contain any classes once the target platform has switched.In VS2008, this causes the cascading failure of absolutely nothing working at all, as described above, but at one point I somehow managed to import the project to VS2010 with only those errors in place (missing classes, etc.), without the rest of the project imploding.I'm now working on reconstructing those classes from those DLLs, and hopefully will be able to get together a project that will compile on multiple target platforms by the end of the day.

I have created a new icon using VB.NET and have saved it to the project directory. I then set the icon property for a form to point to my new icon file. The new icon shows up in the properties window but when the program runs, the title bar displays the default icon that you get when starting a new icon file rather than my new icon.

I have some code that allows the user to browse for an image and then when that image is opened, it is copied to a new directory. This all works fine, but I would like to know if there is a way to create a thumbnail of this image and save it into a subdirectory inside the directory where the original image has already been copied?

it has been a while since I have asked a question here so I thought now would be a great time to do so. I am creating an application that loops through the file names of a specific directory, in this case, the System32 folder. I want the program to compile a list of the file names and then I want the file names to be displayed on a Timer_Tick event so the name will change on every tick. If anyone could provide a snippet of code to achieve this that would be great. I have been researching and debugging all night with no luck.

I am trying to populate a listbox on form load of a list of directories. I only want to show the directory name, not the full path:
[code]...
The form opens w/ no data in the list box. I played w/ this for a bit and found the strFolderName(i) assignment seems to break the code (make it not work) but I can't figure out why.

Lets say we have an Access file in a well known path (i.e. "C:MyFolderMyFile.mdb"). That file does not have a primary key set on the table we are interested in . Is it possible to set one of the fields as a primary key (for example the "ID" field , which is also an AutoNumber data) ? And one more thing : I'd like to change the name of a field on that table . For example , lets say there is a field called "My Field 1" (note the space characters) and we want it to be renamed as "My_Field_1" . If it's possible , I'd like both these changes to be permanent in the data base file itself , not just in the imported DataSet ,

I have several groups of files with idential names, but the files inside may or may not have identcal names, and may differ only in the size or date stamp. I want to combine them to save all unique directory names, and unique file names, and if the date/sizes are unique, then add some number on the end of the file name to make them unique as well. Only idential file sizes and names and dates will be discarded. How do you open directories to compare directory/file names and other properties?

I have a directory 'C:Test' with three files in it:
A23456789.txt
A1.txt
G 5.txt
And I run this command:
Dim FileArr = Directory.GetFiles("C:Test", "*1.txt", SearchOption.AllDirectories)
All three files are returned.I understand that this is by design and .NET searches the 8.3 short file names as well.But is there any way to override this and search the actual file names only?Surely, in this day and age there must be a function to do this. Or do I have to write my own?I would like the search function to have the same behavior as the Windows Explorer for consistency.

I currently have need to modify the Active Directory information for all of my users. At the moment, they have phone and mobile numbers stored in the format xxxxx-xxxxxx. The first x is ALWAYS a 0.
What I want is to do is enumerate all users in a chosen container in AD (with the option to include or exclude subcontainers), then read in any phone numbers they may have (bearing in mind not everyone has a direct dial number or mobile). I then need to replace the initial 0 with +44 (0) and write that information back into Active Directory.

I'm programming in VB using Visual Studio 2005 Professional. I have a code munger perl script that generates some of the *.vb files that I want to compile. The script and the associated files are in my project directory, and when I run the script from the OS command prompt, it writes the files in the same directory, which is what I want. Rather than do this, I want to invoke the perl script as a pre-build event. I've gotten it to work ... almost. The only issue now is that the files are now deposited in TargetDir (/bin/Release e.g.) instead of ProjectDir. I could just change TargetDir to be ProjectDir, but that seems like I'm asking for trouble. Is there a way to separately specify the target directory for pre-build commands? Or change it to ProjectDir, then change it back after I'm done with the pre-build?

I've got an application that has a bug right now, but we're unable to update the end-user to get the fix out. What a possible workaround would be is to change the working directory to the application's install directory, but from what I can tell, there's no way to do that outside of the program itself.

I am doing work for a client who has lost the source code for one of their VB.Net WinForms applications. The assembly they have is not obfuscated at all. I am trying to recover as much of the source as I can as C# source and have tried several tools for decompiling assemblies, including Reflector, ILSpy and JustDecompile (all the latest versions), but they all produce code with a huge number of errors in them. Because of the large number of errors in the generated code, I am going to ask about the specific errors (in different questions), get more directed answers and in this way try shed some light on why all the tools are having difficulty decompiling this assembly. This question pertains to the fact that the code generated by all these tools always have a large number of invalid member variables (fields) such as the following:
private short $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$nHeight;
private ArrayList $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$oColumnLefts;
private StaticLocalInitFlag $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$oColumnLefts$Init;
why the generated code has these invalid member variables?
