I am trying to create the following program Store in a 1d array a set of 5 place names and in a 2d array the distances between the places. Ensure that the order of the places is the same in both arrays. When the names are places are input the distance between them is displayed. If they are not both in the table a suitable message is displayed

Here is my code:

However, a listbox is not my desired output. I am attempting to write these file names to a text file for purposes of then parsing the information to a datatable to compare with another datatable. How to get my filenames written to a textfile.
What is the proper way or code for putting text files into an array? This is what I have:

It needs to go into: arrDates, arrCatagories, & arrAmount
This is what I think:

I'm trying to copy multiple files from a directory, put them into an array, then copy just the 30 newest files(I haven't coded the 30 newest loop yet). I added a list box to the following code just to ensure the all the files are storing into the array properly... they are. When it try's to copy, it renames the first file to .log, then tells me that the .log file already exist. How do I get it to copy and keep the source file name in the destination folder Eventually I'll loop this and grab only 30 of the files.

"So and so","1234","Blah Blah", "Foo","Bar","","","",""
"foofoo","barbar","etc.."
Where ever there is a carriage return it signifies a new row and every comma separates a new column from another.My next step is to go into VB.net and create an array using these values and having the commas serve as the delimeter and somehow making the array into a table where the text files' format matches the array After that array has been created, I need to select only certain parts of that array and store the value into a variable for later use.... how to make the array and selecting the certain info out of it..

View 2 RepliesI m trying to write a program that is mostly dynamic. This program enables the user to read in several inputs (temperature, pressure .) and perform calculations on those inputs. After that the program sends an integer to an analogue output port. The program automatically determines the number and type of the inputs. It also creates something called a variable handle for each input.This is then saved to an array input_handler(0,x). That array is sized this way input_handler(0 to 1 , 0 to 9)
0= handle (integer)
1= value (integer)
The program dynamically creates a button for every input. There also is a button for every mathematical operator. This way the user can create a function by pressing buttons.This function will be saved to a string. That string will look something like this input_handler(1,0)+ input_handler(1,4)/ input_handler(1,3)Well now Im stuck with a string and VB will obviously just print out that string instead of calculating anything. Is there any conversion I can perform so that string becomes the actual array values?

it has been a while since I have asked a question here so I thought now would be a great time to do so. I am creating an application that loops through the file names of a specific directory, in this case, the System32 folder. I want the program to compile a list of the file names and then I want the file names to be displayed on a Timer_Tick event so the name will change on every tick. I have several groups of files with idential names, but the files inside may or may not have identcal names, and may differ only in the size or date stamp. I want to combine them to save all unique directory names, and unique file names, and if the date/sizes are unique, then add some number on the end of the file name to make them unique as well. Only idential file sizes and names and dates will be discarded. How do you open directories to compare directory/file names and other properties?

All three files are returned.I understand that this is by design and .NET searches the 8.3 short file names as well.But is there any way to override this and search the actual file names only?Surely, in this day and age there must be a function to do this.
