What is the proper way or code for putting text files into an array? This is what I have:
2/1/07,Toys,5.99
It needs to go into: arrDates, arrCatagories, & arrAmount
This is what I think:
Dim Dates As String
Dim Catagories As String
Dim Amount as Decimal
Could I get a little feedback on my guess? Oh, and one more thing, do I put these in public or private?
I have an array of filenames, and an array of files in a directory. I use a for loop in a for loop to check if those files are in that directory. Look at the below code to illustrate my problem. [code]
View 8 RepliesI'm trying to copy multiple files from a directory, put them into an array, then copy just the 30 newest files(I haven't coded the 30 newest loop yet). I added a list box to the following code just to ensure the all the files are storing into the array properly... they are. When it try's to copy, it renames the first file to .log, then tells me that the .log file already exist. How do I get it to copy and keep the source file name in the destination folder Eventually I'll loop this and grab only 30 of the files.

I'm getting a list of files from a directory into an array, i.e.,
fileEntries.
The files names are all in this format: "xxx-04-03-2012.txt"
"xxx-09-24-2012.txt"
"xxx-12-25-2013.txt"
etc.
The parts after "xxx" are dates.
I'm trying to find the most recent/up-to-date one from these and do something to it. so I suppose I'll need to sort all these files in the array. I've been looking at the String class on msdn, not much progress..little bit overwhelmed.
I am currently working on file carving techniques and found that outlook has to be original and have its own files in a file (file system) going on. You guessed it the wonderful PST file. right direction on opening PST files without outlook if possible.

I receive file not found error at 3rd line. But if I change the path from "%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe" to "c:Program FilesWindows DefenderMSASCui.exe" it works fine.
What should I do if I want to retrieve file details from the path which includes a "%" character?
I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.

View 2 RepliesI have a Comma Separated value file in .txt format... simply put, its a bunch of data delimited by commas and text qualifier is separated with ""For example:
"So and so","1234","Blah Blah", "Foo","Bar","","","",""
"foofoo","barbar","etc.."
Where ever there is a carriage return it signifies a new row and every comma separates a new column from another.My next step is to go into VB.net and create an array using these values and having the commas serve as the delimeter and somehow making the array into a table where the text files' format matches the array After that array has been created, I need to select only certain parts of that array and store the value into a variable for later use.... how to make the array and selecting the certain info out of it..

sorting list of files in a folder. Below is a snipet of code from a program. The logic is dependant on the files coming in in alphapetical order. I did post about this earlier but I got pulled away and did not get a chance to follow the thread all the way through. The code is complete and it works. However I know it is not guarenteed to pull in alphabetical order so as my final step I wanted to sort the list of files. I thoughr using the array.sort command might work but I am not sure how to use it.

The text file includes information about how to set up the screen including which pictures, videos or buttons etc. to show for each question. The user responds to the questions and another text file is created logging the results. would it be better to read in all the data from the text file into an array to work with during the test, or should I just read the questions one at a time keeping the text file open while the user responds. The amount of data that would be read into an array for an average test would be about 200 lines which range from a single character to 20 sentences (whose length would of course vary).

I had it working, but needed to move some things around to get the join function to work.In my program, a user enters input into a textbox and an array is displayed in a listbox based on what they type in. For example, if they type in "a", all foods (in the textfile that is connected to the program) that start with "a" will be displayed.
When there is output, I need to find a way to name this array (which is created based on what the user inputs) and join all of the items in the listbox (example: foods stacked on top of each other in the listbox will be shown at the bottom as a string).I am posting the code that I have thus far; all of the errors that I'm getting (and potentially my logic errors) are just in the first public class until the end of the first if-next statement:

I have to rename a bunch of folders in different directories. What I would like to do is type in a directory and rename/move files into another directory. I have 4 txt files right know, one for the old file names, one for the new file names, and 2 for the directories.
I planed on importing the txt files into 4 arrays and then using the rename function to change the directory going through a loop.
Problem is I'm very very new to VB and have no idea how to import each line of the txt file into the array.
I'm trying to make a "Simon" game with four buttons labeled 1-4. The game is supposed to read the numbers out loud, but i have a problem with that. I have 4 wav files from google text-to-speech, each named 1-4. I made an number generator that can return like this "42331", and the game is supposed to play 4.wav, 2.wav, 3.wav, 3.wav and 1.wav.
