View 1 RepliesCurrently the scanner is in a module (code below). I put it at that level because when I had it in a class and instantiated the class from the main form, no other forms except the main form would fire the DataReceived event. Well, unfortunately that's the case for the module-level as well.Here's the code for the Scanner:
Code:
Imports System.Threading
Imports System.IO.Ports

i need to create an application where input are to be received by the barcode scanner.However, i am not suppose to use the textbox to do so. However i need to use the serial port to do so. Any one know how am i able to do that?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to read barcode using a scanner through a serial input(com1). Below you will see the code I'm working with, when I scan the barcode the code goes through the datareceived event and doesnt add the read barcode to the listbox. However when I use hyperterminal and scan the barcode it reads and displays the barcode.

I am developing a Winforms application which read barcode from barcode scanner. It's an Human wedge scanner. This will work if I placed the cursor in any textbox or notepad. But i don't want like that. Reason is that it's cordless scanner. If some want to scan some thing in store they will move around, so there is possibility of screen saver coming or system gets locked if that happens the barcodes wont capture, but the user who is scanning the barcodes won't know this thing.
So i am reading the data using serial port communication and my scanner sending the data character by character, Not a whole string. so for that I wrote the following code. Thsi code will works if i am writing to any textbox. But it is not working if want to store it in any global string. Only first character is storing in the string. The below code is working perfectly fine. but if want to save the string in Global String variable instaed of textbox the only first character in the string is storing.

I just found this amazing DLL that can extract the hardware ID (computer RAM, hard drive unique serial number, partition serial number, CPU unique serial number, etc) of a computer.
However, there is no documentation for VB users and it is written in Pascal and assembly language. Ya, sad
connect to this DLL?The documentation says that the DLL exports the following functions:

I am using Richard L. Grier's Enhanced Serial Port dll to read input from a serial port barcode scanner I notice that the datareceived event fires only once per barcode scan, but the delegate sub fires twice per barcode scan. Once for 1st half of Barcode , 2nd for 2nd part of barcode This makes it hard to capture the full barcode so it can be passed to routines in my vb.net 2008 windows application In Richard's example 'Test Enhanced Port' program he sends it to a textbox using .selectedtext and it works fine Richards Delegate code ......................
Public Delegate Sub DisplayData(ByVal Buffer As String)
'This delegate routine marshals receive data from the receive thread context DataReceived to the Windows Form STAThread context
Private Shared Sub Display(ByVal Buffer As String)

I am trying to set a variable to the full barcode to pass to routines, instead of writing to a textbox but am not having any success
I am using VB .Net to access the eBay API and store all completed orders in a database. This database is then fed into a proprietary shipping system, which can not handle an order number larger than 20 characters. eBay returns an order number like so 230407279314-680141236013 which is too long. The order number is always 12 numbers a hyphen and 12 more numbers. What I need to do, is turn this (the result can be alpha numerical) into a shorter, unique order key to store in my database alongside the true orderId (so that this can be referenced by the shipping software instead of the actual order number). The reason for the 20 character limit is the barcode algorithm used. Is there any way to achieve this in VB .Net 2010? This number can be anything unique, so long as it does not exist already (even a good uniqueid function would work, but I would have to query the database to make sure it isn't taken)

How generate the unique no. 1,2,3 and so on .... on button click of each new user ..
the code mentioned below is a readwrite coding in vb.net ...
but the problem is it generate the same id for different users on button click event... but i want the no. of times button clicked the new ids will be generated

Unique constraint - these columns currently doesn't have unique values..?? I have created Unique Constraint with 3 columns. My code works perfectly but once - two users @ same time entered same data and somehow it saved in DB; after that incident. This UniqueConstraint gives me error - These columns currently doesn't have unique values. How can I check if user enters this kind of entry or how can I restrict the Entry?

when should a trigger in your head go off signifying "Aha! I should use the factory pattern here!"? I find these moments will occur with many other design patterns, but never do I stop myself and think about this pattern.
View 6 RepliesFirst the requirements: By management requirements, I can't use open source code. I need the users to define their own formulas for a project. My users don't know how to code. The formulas need to be saved somehow, and being read later. I need to debug the formulas written, so I need to be able to see and understand them. The formulas used are quite specialized and specific (actuarial formulas). Adding new formulas (functionality) must be done in fast and maintainable way.

I am consuming my service in my client
Service is hosted in IIS
Client(winforms MDI) is generated using svcutil using /l, /r, /ct, & /n switches
Service and client both use a MyEntities.dll
I am using nettcp with TransportWithMessageCredential. I cache the proxy in the main form
if Membership.ValidateUser(UsernameTextBox.Text, PasswordTextBox.Text)

_proxy.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = "username"[code].....
Could I subscribe to the _proxy.InnerChannel.Faulted and do that clean up there?
I have set up a process to create new tasks to handle file processing. A problem arised where I received and unhandled exception error and just clicking on the continue button, the main process continued to run. Now I also found that within the child task I was having a file conflict error and as the tasks run as separate .exe i was under the impression that everything would have been thread safe. So for the first issue here is the task creation in the main process..GProcess is a complete project on its own consisting of 6 classes. This is added as a class library reference to the main process class form1
Public Class Form1
..Private parser as GProcess.module = new GProcess.module()

I have integrated the innovative gateway (third party payment gateway) into our asp.net ( language vb.net) web application. while doing transation we are getting the following error in server.
Server Error in '/' Application.
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {7A1284E2-7E00-46B5-8440-FC28305E6A27} failed due to the following error: 80040154.
But in my localhost am getting the failure transaction without getting any error.
I am trying to start a new thread in VB.Net and having syntax problems.In C# this is we can do the same task using
var manualResetEvent = new ManualResetEvent(false);
waitHandles.Add(manualResetEvent);
var taskOne = Task.Factory.StartNew(() => new Thread(TaskToRun).Start(manualResetEvent));[code]....
where TaskToRun is a void method with a single object parameter.All online converters generate similar code to this
Dim manualResetEvent = New ManualResetEvent(False)
waitHandles.Add(manualResetEvent)
Dim taskOne = Task.Factory.StartNew(Function() New Thread(AddressOf TaskToRun).Start(manualResetEvent))
taskOne.Wait()
I have written a base class from which I wish to derive several child classes (in this case Windows Form classes), and I'm using a Factory pattern in order to maintain a collection of the child instances, so that a form can only have one instance per primary key value. (sort of a mash-up of Factory and Singleton patterns.)
I'm using the following code in the base form class[code]...
I tried this one...but its not working.[code]...
View 1 RepliesHow would I change this code to make the factory dynamic. I believe I was close with remoting. I don't want any hardcoding of the factory, nor do I want to have to recompile. The database drives it.
Dim genericRule As Rule
Dim factoryObject As String
factoryObject = _dal.GetFactoryObject(ruleId)

I have a VB.NET application that references a 3rd party Com component. The file is Interop.WINTSRRLIB.dll. My VB.NET application has a project reference to the COM comonent which lives in the directory: C:WaveTracker. The application runs fine. When I sent it to my customer, he installed in on his desktop machine. It runs fine. Then he copied all of the application files (which live in C:WaveTracker) to his laptop. However, on his laptop, he gets the error:
"System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154). Retrieving the COM class factory for component xxxx failed due to the following error: 80040154" The customer swears he has the .NET 2.0 Framework installed properly on his laptop. Any ideas on how I can get over this problem???

Is it possible to prevent compiler warning caused by a static factory method returning an instance of an obsolete class? For example if an instance of an obsolete class (Foo) is created through a static method (Create) a compiler warning is caused by the factory method.
<Obsolete()> _
Public Class Foo
Public Shared Function Create() As Foo
[code]....
In C# the warning could be suppressed using "#pragma warning..." but I don't think that this exists within VB.Net. Migrating to C# is not an option due to business requirements.

I made my program and now I just need to add in the serial and trial part of the application. I know the application must connect to the host and go to a txtfile. How would i do the trial and serial. Also If the serial is already activated I want the application to reject that Serial and Count how many times they entered in a wrong serial.
View 2 RepliesI have a stand alone VB.Net 2005 application that uses a serial port that generally stays open while the application runs on a Windows XP system. In trying to bullet-proof the UI, I ran into a problem when the USB to Serial Converter normally used to provide the serial port is disconnected while the serial port is open. In trying to handle the resulting error when accessing the port, I find I cannot close the port.
When trying to do so, the error message says something like "unable to close the port. You may not have sufficient permissions." Reconnecting the USB/Serial Converter does not reactivate the port.

I found a lot of information about how to make a database factory or how to deal with connection pooling but i nowhere found a complete solution.I have always used my own solutions, but they're not complete i think or could be improved.Are there some good designed classes any of you use that i can find on the net?
