I'm running the following WMI script to get the associations between drive letters and physical drives on the system, but for some reason it omits CDROMs/DVD-ROMs. Can someone tell me how to get those as well?

Set wmiDiskDrives = wmiServices.ExecQuery _

Winforms Saving Images To SQL Server Without Creating A File On The User's Hard Drive?

Jun 22, 2011

This is my first attempt at creating a Winforms application, and I have been developing in the .Net Framework (Silverlight, ASP.Net, WPF) for about 6 months. So, my appologies if this is a newbie question.

Basically what I am doing right now is taking the drawings of a stylus-based input, and storing them into an image field in a SQL Server database. Then, in another form, I go and get that image out of the database, and load it into a picture box. It works, but it is rather "sloppy" how it got there.When the user clicks save, it stores that image into a temporary folder, then converts it to a byte array and throws it into the database that way. Then, it deletes the file from the temporary folder. When retrieving it, it pulls it out of the database in a byte array, then converts it to an image in a temporary folder, thus displaying it on the form.

Is there a way that I can just bypass the storing of the file onto the user's harddrive both times, and go from byte array to picturebox?

How To Get UNC Path Of Network Drive

Jul 10, 2009

I am using some like following code to get UNC path of drive letter.
Dim query As New System.Management.ObjectQuery("select * from Win32_LogicalDisk")
Using searcher As New System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher(Query)
'loops for all drives on system
For Each Mgmt As System.Management.ManagementObject In searcher.Get()

And it was working but now it is giving error. Below is error with stack trace
{"Specified cast is not valid."}
at System.Management.ThreadDispatch.Start()
at System.Management.ManagementScope.Initialize()
at System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher.Initialize()
at System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher.Get()

I also want to know alternative way to get unc path of drive that is also not depend on windows API. As there is a class driveinfo to get all drives (including network) on system. Is there any class that also provide complete or unc path information of Drive.

C# - Determine A Mapped Drive's Actual Path?

Jan 14, 2010

How do I determine a mapped drive's actual path?

So if I have a mapped drive on a machine called "Z" how can I using .NET determine the machine and path for the mapped folder?

The code can assume it's running on the machine with the mapped drive.

I looked at Path, Directory, FileInfo objects, but can't seem to find anything.

I also looked for existing questions, but could not find what I'm looking for.

Dec 23, 2009

I was expecting this to be easy but it seems that it is not... all I want to do is loop through all drives on a computer and if the drive is a network drive then get the UNC path that this network drive maps to. Simples. I was expecting to just do this:

vb.net
For Each drv In IO.DriveInfo.GetDrives()
If drv.DriveType = IO.DriveType.Network Then
MessageBox.Show(drv.RootDirectory.ToString)
End If
Next

Accessing Files Off Of A Drive That Has A Different Path From System To System?

Mar 26, 2011

I'm coding this neat little project that's kind of a hack into the SanDisk U3 Cruzer's ability to have both a CDFS and FAT32 File System. This is helpful because the program is burned to the CDFS (It's basically slip streamed as an .ISO in place of the original U3 .ISO), and the settings files (which I've developed as text files) are placed on the root of the flash drive. The program itself is VERY simple actually, except I'm having a slight issue that's really driving me insane:

The drive path of the Flash Drive won't be the same from computer to computer. I.E... The files are "UAI.txt" and "UInfo.txt". The root of the drive on my comp is "I:", but on my laptop is "F:". So if I program the path from my computer as the absolute path, an exception is thrown when the path changes on another computer. I cannot have this happen. It is probably THE MOST crucial element to this program. How can you save and read info if you can't find the files? =P

So I've gone through so many threads and forums trying to find a batch of code to allow me to make the path relative. I've found the following code (modified, of course). It works PERFECT in Debug, but throws an exception once packaged to the CDFS partition:

Find UNC Path On Another Server?

Oct 9, 2009

I'm need of some way of finding the UNC Path of a share via a script or command line or even a custom created program. I'm trying to automate deletion of users and the setup is a bit complicated.

Home folders are set up like this:

We create a folder on a Disk on a fileserver.When this folder is created, a share is automatically created on a lower levelThen the DFS Links are set up towards the newly created share.

Now, when deleting a user, I could just delete the DFS Folder, meaning that the target folder is the one being deleted. But since it's a share, that cannot happen.

C# - Server To Server File Transfer Without Any User Interaction?

Feb 16, 2011

In my scenario, users are able to upload zip files to a.[url]....I would love to create a "daemon" which in specified time intervals will move-transfer any zip files uploaded by the users from a[url].....From the info i gathered so far,

The daemon will be an .ashx generic handler.

The daemon will be triggered at the specified time intervals via a plesk cron job

The daemon (thanks to SLaks) will consist of two FtpWebRequest's (One for reading and one for writing).

how could i implement step 3?

Do i have to read into to a memory() array the whole file and try to write that in b.example.com ?

How could i write the info i read to b[url].....?

Could i perform reading and writing of the file at the same time? No i am not asking for the full code, i just can figure out, how could i perform reading and writing on the fly, without user interaction.I mean i could download the file locally from a.example.com and upload it at b.example.com but that is not the point.
