I do not want to have to write all the #statements and having them cluttering up my code. It seems like this should be a common need and there has to be a better way. Does anyone know a better way?
I have a several C# console applications that basically parse tons of data in memory (LINQ) and output the results to a text file. Now, forget about the writing to the text file for a minute because this is not where the problem is occurring.
When I run the application in debug mode, I will never get it to utilize more than 50% of cpu usage. It will be parsing/massaging hundreds of thousands of records, but only go X fast and utilize 50% of the cpu AT MOST (as viewed in the Task Manager).
I would really like to use 100% of the CPU to make the processing go faster. Does anybody have any insight? I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional with Service Pack 1 installed. I have manually set the affinity of the process in Task Manager to a single core on the dual CPU. Sometimes I can catch it utilizing 51% or 52% of the CPU.
When I try to debug my WPF application in visual studio 2010 it launches two versions of my application. Both are linked to the debugger. has anyone seen this before or knows a way to fix it.

I get the following error message when I try to run it:A project with an Output Type of CLass Library cannot be stared directly.It was working about 5 months ago just fine but I opened it and and ran it for the first time since then and get this message. It used to startup another instance of Visual Studio with the addin installed via a proxy addin file. How do I configure the project or solution to make it behave this way again? Do I need to manually tweak the project of solution file?

I have found a number of profilers that can profile existing .NET applications, but none of which (that I have seen) support debugging. I've been assigned a web app written in VB using VStudio.net 2003. I am trying to configure the source on my localhost (VStudio 2008) so I can explore and learn about the current app (before I begin any real changes) and I cannot get debugging working for the web service project(s).
Symptom 1: "Unable to automatically step into the server. The remote procedure could not be debugged. This usually indicates that debugging has not been enabled on the server. See help for more information". This happens when I try to F11 (stepInto) the proxy class which invokes my actual web method.
Symptom 2: Pre-setting a breakpoint in my .asmx file code on the statement that will be invoked does not work (i.e. the debugger simply doesn't stop). Having described the situation, here's how my VStudio Solution is configured: Service1 - project created from the VB - WEB - ASP.NET Web Service Application template; this Service1 project contains my main .asmx source code I want to debug. This started happening randomly yesterday. When I press F5 to test my project, an old build of the program (circa yesterday afternoon) launches. No changes (and I've tried in a few different files) are reflected in the project. However, and this is truly perplexing, if I go to Build --> Build from the Menu bar, the output .exe in the /bin/release/ directory DOES include all the recent changes.

View 8 Repliesi am using visual studio 2005 on win 7 with office 2007. i have developed win application. i am using microsoft activex spreadsheet component in my program. so it automatically creates reference to AxInterop.OWC11.dll When i run program in debug mode (open program and click RUN in toolbar it works) but if i run directly .exe (go to bin elease doubleclick .exe) it give error at loading point of that component. I've created a SSIS script task for debugging: printing SSIS variables and their values. This is done with (a maybe restrictied version of) Visual Basic. Rather then creating a message box or writing to a file I'd like to write to the debug output of Visual Studio - or to some other window available in Visual Studio when running a SSIS task. Something like fprintf( stderror, "Hello world!" ) in C. I suppose I need to get the Stream Writer Object connected with the debug output. But how do I do this? I also tried Console.WriteLine() but this didn't succeed.
View 3 RepliesI work for a shop that maintains a fairly new app. The app still has its fair share of bugs, with numerous tickets coming in daily. The error information we're given with those tickets is not as useful as it might be because the application was compiled in Release mode, which I read is smaller and faster (makes sense).
Are there any ramifications to deploying a .NET application to production that was compiled in Debug mode? I would expect it would be a bit slower, but I've read the difference is nominal. This would assure us that when we get errors on tickets we have line number associated with those errors and this, of course, makes debugging much easier. major red flags that would prevent you from doing this? I'm tasked with researching the possibility.

unbalanced stack. This is probably because the managed PInvoke signature does not match the unmanaged target signature. Make sure that the calling convention and parameters of the PInvoke signature match the target unmanaged signature.
So I don't care, it works. But can I just ignore this error ? without doing weird stuff like that :

Ok , I solved my problem by adding CallingConvention=CallingConvention.Cdecl, but what the question was about skipping exceptions, so and I still don't know if I can do it.
So maybe I need to tell some real reason to not be down-voted hard - sometimes it's matters for program to live even with hard errors occupations, but even sometimes you don't need to catch them. You need just ignore them...
I have a program that runs a pretty long operation in the background once a user clicks the button. I have implemented a progress bar but if the window is touched or moved then it grays out and says (Not repsonding). Everything still works and when the operation finishes the program resumes function. (But a user would not know this
View 3 RepliesWhenever I make any changes in my project, they don't work and aren't visible in debug mode. They are all visible in my designer mode. It's the same with newly added code, it just doesn't work (even a simple command like showing a test messagebox doesn't work).
How could this be? It all worked fine until recently. I don't want to start over with my project, because it's a pretty big one.
My trial version of VS9 professional just expired and wanted to uninstall it, however upon loading, it goes into debug mode and displays the message;an unhandled win32 exception occurred in setup.exe [3816]If I do go into debug mode, then it loads VS but since my version is already expired, I can't do anything but close it...I can't repair it since I dont have the original installation files (its VS9 professional ENU, and microsoft doesnt have it up for downloads anymore.. but here is a SS of the other programes installed which are related to VS9.[URL]..

I have a few DLLs that I have added to my project. I placed directly into the BinRelease directory and set Copy Local and Specific Version to true. Now if I move to debug mode, it doesn't copy those DLLs into the debug folder, so it won't compile. If these are just 3rd party DLLs, and not being built by my program, is it normal practice to throw these into the Release and Debug folders every time?

View 11 RepliesThe solution and all the projects within it are set for Debug;I deleted the .suo file as recommended in one posting.I ran rebuild on each and every project individually and the entire solution.I deleted the files in binDebug and did the whole thing over again. Still can't debug.
While stepping into (F8) I did get the hollow debug symbol in the margin and when just running the program (F5) the program starts up without stopping at any of several breaks in different functions and subs.
Since a week my vb 2008 is showing the integer value as a hex, see attachment. how to show the normal integer value?
