Are there any libraries available that to change the look-and-feel of Desktop Applications made using VB.net 2008? Here is a snapshot of an application that runs on Windows 7:I think its made using the .net framework, but how can it be styled like this? PS - Even if its not built using .net framework, then please let me know which language supports the UI customization on windows platform.

View 1 RepliesI have a problem with a large application that consists of windows forms mainly, but some WPF windows and controls (we also use DevExpress controls v9.1). The problem is that the application sometimes hangs when it runs in a remote desktop session, and that session gets locked due to inactivity, and the user comes back and unlocks the session. The hang seems very similar to the hangs you get when accessing GUI controls from a none GUI thread, but I'm pretty sure that's not what causes the problem. (We had a lot of those problems earlier, and have fixed all multithreading problems we were able to find. And the hangs now never occures when the application runs outside the remote desktop environment.)
I've done a lot of research on the problem but I've still not found a clear point to what causes the problem. However, I think there might be a problem related to some combination of remote desktop and .NET framework. The reason for this is posts like this:

View 29 RepliesI have a production application that I always want to force focus on. Sometimes the users will accidentally click off the form and the blue focused window will turn gray. I have a timer that fires every 30 seconds and I want to programatically give focus back to the form so that it goes from gray back to blue with focus. I've tried using the .focus event and the .activecontrol property but none of those seem to work and I'm not seeing any other viable options. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 in VB.Net.

View 2 RepliesVB.net newbie question: I am writing a number of console applications, all of which need to use a set of common functions and subroutines that are compiled directly into the applications, not into a separate DLL.
I assume that each separate console application needs to be a separate project, and that the commonly used functions and subroutines need to be in a separate module, but how can such a module be shared between multiple projects so that only one copy of the shared module and its code is required, without creating a separate DLL?

View 1 Repliesmaking a general functions class library that will be used in several applications and asp pages, sometimes running at the same time.I've looked at a lot of samples on the web and they all show you to create an instance of the classlibrary namespace or the classlibrary class.
IE.
dim obj2 as new mycompany.mynamespace.myclass
dim n2 as integer
n2 = obj2.somefunction(...)
What I did was create my class library and put a class in it and declared a function as sharred, then created my dll.I don't have to create an instance of it and I can use it like the net framework by just coding
n2 = mycompany.mynamespace.myclass.somefunction(...).
The net framework does this, I mean once I imports it I don't have to make an instance of it in every function.All the samples I've seen about class libraries do not use the shared keyword.

When switching to a new desktop it starts a new instance of my app in that desktop (works) and on the form load event it says process.start("explorer.exe") <- here is the problem. It only shows a window not the actually bar.Also this may be important it shows the window, but when I navigate to explorer.exe 'C:Windowsexplorer.exe' and open it there. The explorer bar does show up.

For example, I used to buy little sets/kits from radioshack that walked you through building a clock, radio, etc., or other little electronics devices. The kits came with all the parts and instructions so you just assembled them. Hence, I'm just looking for something similar to that for vb, minus the components obviously ;-). I like to learn through hands on experience so I'm just looking for some guides that have you build a program and briefly go explain the workings of the code.

By communication I mean that I should be able to pass anything from on to another. note that although I'm not asking for code (that would beat my purpose, of course) I think some small snippets wouldn't hurt. The Program Files folder is located on a Flash Drive which will have a different drive letter per computer. How can I code this?
