Basic Mastermind Game - Don't Want Any Colors To Repeat - Values Still Repeat Sometimes
Feb 17, 2011I'm trying to make a mastermind game program with visual basic. I started of creating the combination maker for the start of the game. Hoever, in my version i don't want any colors to repeat. I used the random function independently to get numbers from 1 to 6. Each number has a corresponding color. The problem, the values still repeat sometimes.

Mar 4, 2010I am looking into writing a web-based vehicle tracking system. The framework I have in mind looks something like this:
Client application --- Database --- Database updater.
Client application: This would query the database for information and then display this information on a map.
Database: holds vehicle information such as speed, location, payload etc.
Database update: This application would need to continually check for information received from vehicles and then add that to the database.
I am confident that with my current skill set and some research and learning, I could write the client application and interface it to a database. However, I am at a loss as to how to write the database updater. Presumably, this would be an application running continually on the server, waiting for information to be received from vehicles and updating the database. Is this something I can do with ASP.NET and Visual Basic? Or would this require a different way of thinking than writing web pages?

When running my Application, I am getting a pup-up window in Windows Vista Environment with Office-2007 having button OK and Cancel button to proceed.
But my problem is the scanning is not proceeding even after I keep on pressing the OK button. Now I want to continue with my application while pressing the Cancel button; i.e. just to skip the file. Is it possible to capture the response from the cancel button? (As this is a message box from another application, i.e. either from Vista or Office-2007, I'm not sure).

.NET Applications Hangs On Remote Desktop?
Aug 13, 2009I have a problem with a large application that consists of windows forms mainly, but some WPF windows and controls (we also use DevExpress controls v9.1). The problem is that the application sometimes hangs when it runs in a remote desktop session, and that session gets locked due to inactivity, and the user comes back and unlocks the session. The hang seems very similar to the hangs you get when accessing GUI controls from a none GUI thread, but I'm pretty sure that's not what causes the problem. (We had a lot of those problems earlier, and have fixed all multithreading problems we were able to find. And the hangs now never occures when the application runs outside the remote desktop environment.)
I've done a lot of research on the problem but I've still not found a clear point to what causes the problem. However, I think there might be a problem related to some combination of remote desktop and .NET framework. The reason for this is posts like this:

Jul 30, 2010I have a production application that I always want to force focus on. Sometimes the users will accidentally click off the form and the blue focused window will turn gray. I have a timer that fires every 30 seconds and I want to programatically give focus back to the form so that it goes from gray back to blue with focus. If you are asking why i dont just use SnagIT its because the interface is overly complex and building my own version would allow me to intergrate it into my existing programs.
