Desktop Keyboard And Mouse Capture

Jun 14, 2009

I am a newbie to this forum. I searched across a lot to find a way in VB.net how to capture the keyboard and mouse events scoping to the whole computer. Basically what I want to do is make a keyboard and mouse macro recorder application, so that the regular job of starting the same programs again and again everyday might be automated.

Capture All Keyboard Events?

Aug 9, 2010

I've written an app with a simple textbox which attempts to identify a user from their typing habits (interval between key presses, duration key is held, time between key strokes ie a->s is quicker than a->v for some users, shorter for others depending on typing style). It's far from perfect but it does correctly identify moderate-large differences in style.I'm hoping to use this as a form of security monitor - If the typing style of the user doesn't fit a recognised pattern, report to a central server.

Of course, the next step in testing this is to begin to capture "regular" typing habits - ie when browsing, switching between apps, etc.What I can't figure out how to do is capture keyboard input for all applications (excluding the login/welcome screen, alternate desktops, etc. - I have no reason to parse that and there's probably not enough input to analyse anyway)Disclaimer: Yes, I know this comes dangerously close to writing a keylogger which is verboten but if I wanted to do that, I'd write a keyboard driver in C++ - I'm sure it would be far more streamlined and easier to obfuscate than a hulking .Net MSIL assembly. I have no doubt I'll be fending off "That's a keylogger" comments but I've hit a wall and need to ask somewhere.

Capture Keyboard Input With Text Boxes?

Jul 13, 2011

I was a professional software designer using VB6. Now that I've converted to VB2005 years later, use, with pages of unrelated information. With VB6 I could use Left$, Mid$, etc to parse keyboard input into a string. For example in the KeyPress event of a name box I could use

Case "A" To "Z"
CFName$ = Left$(CFNameBox.Text, CFNameBox.SelStart) + Key$ + Mid$(CFNameBox.Text, CFNameBox.SelStart + CFNameBox.SelLength + 1)

When converting a program from VB6 to VB2005 the software changed the line to

CFName = VB.Left(CFNameBox.Text, CFNameBox.SelectionStart) & Key & Mid(CFNameBox.Text, CFNameBox.SelectionStart + CFNameBox.SelectionLength + 1)

When writing another program I used the VB.Left(), etc, but it gives me an error. So, the question is, what is the correct way to capture keyboard input from text boxes and construct strings?

Capture Keyboard Events With The Intent Of Preventing Users From Being Able To Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del

Jun 28, 2005

I am trying to find a way to capture keyboard events with the intent of preventing users from being able to hit Ctrl + Alt + Del while my application is running. I've spent several hours poking around looking for inspiration but only finding unclear and half-baked examples. As such, I was thrilled to stumble across the article: Managing Low-Level Keyboard Hooks in VB .NET written by Paul Kimmel [URL] This article is insightful, comprehensive, well-written, and I thought it was a huge help. One little problem though, the code that was provided did not work, (I knew it was too good to be true!).

Now, Mr. Kimmel seemed very knowledgable and I think that he probably tested his code, so quite likely the problem is something that I'm doing wrong seeing as I am a newbie. As the article suggests I cut and pasted his code into a module in my project (solution I guess is the proper term), and I call the HookKeyboard method from a button on a form, and Presto! Nothing happens. Stepping through this code I see that the second line in HookKeyboard:

Capture Video Of The Windows Desktop And Save It As A AVI File?

Feb 11, 2009

Does anyone know how to capture (Record) the Windows desktop and save it as a '.avi' or '.mpg' file. This functionality can be done using screen capture / presentation programs like SnagIT:[URL]..I have found many examples showing how to capture from a webcam using the 'avicap32.dll' DLL file but these dont help with this problem.

If you are asking why i dont just use SnagIT its because the interface is overly complex and building my own version would allow me to intergrate it into my existing programs.

DIY Calculator : Keyboard Vs. Mouse?

Apr 30, 2010

I am creating a DIY calculator.The one in W7, I can't hardly see. Mine is much simpler and larger.I currently have buttons for numeric 0 - 9, Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, Clear, Enter, and Decimal Point.There is a label at the top with displays results.If I use my mouse to select the buttons, then everything works okay. However, if I use the keyboard, I get strange results.I thought it may have been my old keyboard so I changed it.No difference.If it's not in the hardware, then it's in the code.The section below is what I have for keyboard use:

Private Sub Form1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyPress
Ch = e.KeyChar
Select Case Ch[code]....

For each of these, there is a corresponding Button_Click even farther down in the code. Since the mouse click on the buttons on the form works properly, the problem must be above. I can't see it.

Script To Disable Keyboard And Mouse

Dec 25, 2011

I am kind of amazed that there is no answer to this anywhere and I mean anywhere. I am looking for a way to disable the keyboard (actually all input) on a computer. There are several threads about it but no one has ever posted any serious, working code. I know someone is going to inevitably ask "why would you want to do that"? Actually why I want to do it is immaterial but if you must know... I am playing with a "USB Keylock". When this USB Keylock is not present in the computer I want to disable the keyboard. When it is present I want to enable the keyboard.

This is for a World of Warcraft and it is legal. I thought that I would use setWindowsHookEx, but I can't figure out how to set it up that it only takes the input from one window and not globally.Can anyone recommend the best way of cloning keyboard and mouse messages ? or give me an example of how to set a windows hook for only one program ?
