Handle When COM Object Is Disconnected From RCW?

Feb 15, 2012

Is there any way to run code when COM object is about to be disconnected from RCW without implementing IDisposale interface and explicit call MyObject.Dispose in client code?

The code below is not working. When program enters Finalize sub, ExcelApplication is already disconnected from RCW, and I get error. I understand why it happens, but I want to get a solution.

I want to make it working the following way: when last managed reference is released, code from Finalize sub is executed before COM object is disconnected.

My question is - is it possible at all and if it is then how can I handle this event inside the class, without need to call Finalize explicitly from outside?

Very simple class:

Public Class ExcelRunner
Dim ExcelApplication As Excel.Application
Public Sub New()

Handle An Object's Object Property Changed Event In .NET Windows Forms?

Jun 7, 2012

I know how to handle a single objects property changed event very easily. I want to handle a objects property changed event that is part of another object.

Given Object:

[ObjectY = Y]
+ Public WithEvents X As ObjectX

I would like to do something like:

Private Sub XPropertyChanged() Handles Y.X.PropertyChanged

Right now I need to create a object that equals the object inside that object and then handle this variable pointers property changed, but that is just annoying.

VS 2010 VB Can't Seem To Handle Object Or Attachment Dbs Fields?

Feb 15, 2012

I have just loaded an access 10.0 database into my VB project as a dataset. Two of the tables contain an Ole object field and an attachment field (the data in the fields are described by the field types). All of the data contained in either of these field types, when observed in the dataset, show a warning and indicate that it is unable to display that data. As might be expected, when the data is called in a gridview, anything from those fields throws errors.

I would like to know if there are any known issues with these types of fields and VB, and if so what might be done to resolve that.

Object Handle Events Fired In Other Objects Without A Special Sub?

Jul 28, 2010

I've been thinking about my options when it comes to events in vb.net.What I'd like to do is to track events that are fired in an application without explicitly declaring them with 'handles' sub. Here is a pseudo-[code]....

Yeah I know, not quite working, but is there any way of implementing something like this in vb.net? My end game is really to be able to monitor events fired in many objects from another object, isn't there a more maintainable way to do that then to add a special sub in each object that handles the event that I want to catch? I need some way to let one object handle events fired in other objects without a special sub, the AddHandler goes a long way, but I can't really use that dynamically like so:[code]....

One Routine To Handle Multiple Events In Arraylist Class Object

Oct 17, 2011

I want to use One routine to handle multiple events & i want to give the list class object to the routine handle clause in vb.net. Is it possible? I have 100 buttons on my web page & i want to handle click event of each button. I have same coding on each button but the only difference is that, which button is calling the event handling routine. So i want to make one sub routine for handling event of all my buttons.

I can solve this by writing each button name in the handles clause like - Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ImgRCP_26.Click, ImgRCP_27.Click,. But it is so lengthy procedure. So that why i want to handle my button in the arraylist. How to do this?

Network Connections Disconnected After Launching .NET App?

Feb 17, 2011

I shipped a VB .NET app to my customer. They installed the app in program files folder. The app starts and everything works ok. Now my customer reports that some intranet TCP/IP connections are interrupted after starting the app. Sometimes they are not available after starting my app, sometimes the intranet connections are still available after my app has been started. After my app has been started, there are connection error messages to their intranet services. After re-starting the machine, they still can't connect to the intranet services. A fix is to login with another user name or re-load the profile from the server after they have been logged in on another machine.

Do you have any ideas where to start further investigations? Is it possible that my .NET app interrupts or blocks intranet connections? Could you recommend any trace tool that gives me a hint when and why the intranet connections are blocked? Why could it work for them after they login on another machine?I am wondering if my .NET app could disable the intranet connections. Do you have any recommendation for testing that?

.net - Handle Null Nested Objects In RDLC Report That Is Bound To Custom Assembly Object Datasource?

Public Class ClassA

Public Name As String

Create An ADODB Disconnected Recordset In Windows Application?

My attempts so far fail as every time I close the connection, my recordset also closes (which means it is not disconnected).

Is there a property I must set somewhere to indicate that the recordset should be disconnected? I cannot set Recordset.ActiveConnection = False because I get an exception ("Cannot change the ActiveConnection property of a Recordset object which has a Command object as its source."). I do set the Command.ActiveConnection = False, but that doesn't stop the recordset from closing as soon as I close the connection object.[code]...

Flattening An Object Hierarchy Using A Shim Class - Initializing Derived Object Properties From The Base Object?

Jul 10, 2010

I am somewhat new to object oriented programming and am attempting to flatten a Linq object hierarchy by using a shim class.how to initalize a derived class with property values from a base class?I have two objects, a base object with about 100 properties, and a derived object which inherits from the base object and adds a few additional properties beyond those of the base object.  My simple constructor creates the derived object, but I am looking for a way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object.Right now I am using reflection to iterate over the properties individually and I suspect there may be a better way. The following example shows my shim class constructor for the derived class, and two properties:

newProperty1 - a new string property of the derived class

flattenedProperty2 - a new string property of the derived class, copied from a 2nd-level object of the base class

Code example:

 Public Class derivedObj
Inherits baseObj
Private _newProperty1 As String[code].......

Is this the correct constructor approach to flatten the object hierarchy using a shim class? My second question relates to initialization of properties in the derived class.  The constructor above creates the derived object, but what is the best way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object? The following code uses reflection to iterate over the properties individually, but I suspect there may be a better way.

Code example:

' property names are in the string array fieldNames

'baseObjQuery is an ienumerable of baseObj

'derivedObjList is a list of derivedObj[code].....

Is there a simple way to initialize values for the properties in the derived object based upon the values of the common properties in the base object?

VS 2008 Error - System.NullReferenceException: Object Reference Not Sent To An Instance Of An Object

Oct 23, 2009

I have recently gotten my hands on a free, open-source IMAP connection API.So far, I have been successful in creating a connection to one of my accounts.Where I'm getting stuck is retrieving folders and/or emails from those folders.Does there happen to be anyone here that is familiar with this API, or even Gmail (particularly the folder structure for IMAP)?

If not, here is a link to the DLL that is listed on sourceforge and the company's website that created it (if you feel like testing):

Koolwired
Sourceforge - Koolwired API

I have created a test account so feel free to use the code below without worrying about username/password issues; I'll just delete it when I'm done with it.Here is the code I have made so far for making a connection:

Dim gSession As New Koolwired.Imap.ImapConnect("imap.gmail.com", 993, True)
Dim gAuthenticate As New Koolwired.Imap.ImapAuthenticate(gSession, "imap_test@serysoft.com", "imap_test")
Try

[code]....

When I run that code, I get an error that states:System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not sent to an instance of an object. (The bold line in the above code).

Now, I'm not sure exactly what that means. Does that mean it tried to access the server and "INBOX" doesn't exist so it gets returned a NULL value? Or is it possibly the coding itself?Maybe the Gmail folder system is weird due to the fact they use labels (even though from what I have read online, the labels act as the folders in the IMAP system).
