Does anyone know how to hardcode a connection and selection like I use to do with access, but only in MySQL?

I am using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express. I have a WPF-based project. I have a successful connection to a database in Database Explorer, and a working existing Data Source in Data Sources.
I created a datatable from the datasource using this code:
Dim roster_table As New DataTable("AGENT_ROSTER")
I can manipulate this datatable just fine, but I cannot figure out how to save its data to my database (agentroster.sdf) since the connection is on a global level, and isn't declared in this particular window.
How do I update this database from the datatable on this window?By the way, I tried creating a connection on this window's code, using the exact same connection string as the successful globally-connected database, yet it said that it couldn't connect.
I'd like to utilize Select & Insert statements on a DataTable in VB.NET or C#.
Example:
Dim Results as DataTable Results = Select * from SourceDataTable where PlayerID < 10
Is anything similar to this possible?
I have this code going into a datatable
"SELECT Sales.Quantity, Sales.UnitPrice, Sales.TotalExVAT, Sales.VAT, Sales.TotalIncVAT FROM Sales WHERE QuotationID=" & QuotationID & " AND Batch=" & arow("Batch") & ""
Dim thisbatchDT As DataTable = dataacess.getDatatable(QUERY, "TheBatchInfo")I was wondering how i could add £ OR $ Symbols to my data table, without them being in the database, using the SQL code.
with the meaning of this snippet?
string conString =@"Provider=Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0;" + @"data source=c:illing.mdb"; OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(conString); Conn.Open(); DataSet ds = new DataSet(); OleDbDataAdapter adapter =

View 2 RepliesI have connected my sql db with vb and I m trying to make a UI. My question is that when I write code in order to create datatables and I fill them with the results of queries I've created, where do these datatables belong? I'm wondering if I have to define a new dataset or do they belong to the existed dataset which is created by the dataset configuration wizard??
View 3 RepliesUsing VS2010 I am adding a new data source (SQL Server for this app). The wizard asks if I want to include sensitive information (e.g. the password). In this case I answer "no" ecause I don't want the password showing up in the Config file (the rest of the string is fine).

I have a TCP connection code for client and server communication. It's not meant to be malware but it collects the clients computer information and then connects to the server.
It successfully "connects" but then immediately disconnects. Here is the code for the server:
Dim Listener As TcpListener
Dim Client As TcpClient
Dim ClientList As New List(Of ChatClient)
Dim sReader As StreamReader
[Code]...
I have port forwarding all done and it works if I run the client and server on my own machine. If I run the client on another machine though It gives me a message box saying that it connected with the clients remote IP and at the same time it tells me it disconnected. The client never sends the system information. What is the problem?
I am trying to use the code from Microsoft for an Async Socket connection. It appears the listener runs in the main thread locking the GUI. I am new at both socket connections and multi-threading all at the same time. Having a hard time getting my mind wrapped around this all at once.

I have been using the code below to tell if the computer has an internet connection. It works fine on my home computer but when I run it at work on our network which has internet, it fails. I can go to the sites I use below in my browser but when this is run in my app, it returns false. Any ideas why? Is there a better way i should be checking?

As I was starting on my lil project i realized that I would have a tonne of repetitive code. But wasn't sure how best to go around to just only have it in there once and just call on it. Not entirely sure how to do this as I havnt done it before, I was trying to mess around with it in a Function type thing but I had declaration issues which put me off course. Basically they'll be a few labels lbl8Beats(on click it loads the table in the datagrid (dgvCompositions)) is the first, and all the code from Dim conn As MySqlConnection to data = New DataTable, will be repeated. When i was messing around and thought I'd open the connection on form load, and I just had a bunch of declaration issues, and was unsure how best to go about this. Also since the Adapter = "would be changing on each label it just made me more confused.[code]

View 7 RepliesI'm adding a SDE feature class into ArcMap and before it adds in I have to click the ok button on the "Connection Details" Window. Is there a way to click the ok button by code? I was thinking maybe it could be done by using Window notification code (e.g. code below), however I'm not seeing any option for button click Ok or Cancel. Maybe it could be done by "Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Ok" somehow or by getting the focus of the ok button? [Code]
View 1 RepliesI've been working with VB6, 2003, 2005 and 2010 and I've always hardcoded my database passwords. Recently we ran into a problem where we would like to change all our db passwords for audit purposes. The problem is passwords for different dbs have been hardcoded in all our programs. How can I create programs going forward without hard coding the passwords in? I think I should be using a config file of some sort, but not sure how or where to start.

I have code running in the Datatable.ColumnChanging event in my dataset. This dataset underlies a form and conventional drag/drop controls are in place for data entry.when the event triggers and runs, I am running code in the form that checks the dataset.HasChanges property. It is showing False. But this is immediately after the ColumnChanging event has been triggered.Okay, I see by others posts and MSDN that .HasChanges will only be true after moving off the row with the changed column. I have also noted lots of discussion about the advanced binding property of DataSourceUpdate Mode, but that does not address this issue.I guess I can do this by checking the state of the row for the binding source. Just seems odd that the event behind the dataset can be triggered and that does not change the dataset.HasChanges property.

View 1 RepliesI have a datagridview bound to a datatable setting its datasource property to the datatable. I would like to have a child form that contains a list of columns associated with the datatable that contains a checkbox that will allow the user to hide and show the columns ( I do not know the best control to use here) (I assume this is the easy part as All i need to do is loop through each of the datatable's columns to get the column name)
now I would like save these visible columns on some event like form_closing so that the next time the user opens the form up it will remember the settings
