Mar 17, 2012I want to send emails to all the followers of my website as soon as a new article is submitted.
PROBLEM: I want to send the emails asynchronously using threading or a windows service. I am not sure about windows service as I am using a shared hosting. But my real concern is that I want to send out the emails only when traffic is low in my site. How do I go about this? Ho do I check if traffic is low or not?
Created A Service Which Runs Fine On Development PC?
Mar 10, 2009I have created a service which runs fine on my development PC. It reads XML files data into and Access database. Any errors that might occur are wrote to an eventlog. Like I said all of this works fine on my development PC. I have copied the service EXE on to another PC and run the install and that all works but when the service is fired I get a .Net 2.0 error - system.argumentexception error. I put a delete temp file line of code in to see where the error was occuring and it seems to be when I try to open my database.
Do I need to create a deploy for my service?

Dec 2, 2011What I am looking to do is write a VB.NET program, as a service that reports anything on client1 that I want (say the fact it is online) to a database on the internet, so I can look on management1 and see the online status of the machine (assuming management1 has a connection to the online database).
What is being reported doesn't matter, what I am looking at is a starting point to create a system like that. I have googled obviously and come up with nothing, I'd just like a "starting point" or some documentation to look at for creating something like this. The service doesn't look too difficult but the periodic reporting of online status or ANYTHING to any kind of database is not something I am sure how to deal with.
I already have setup a VBS that reports information to an ASP script that then places it in a database but I don't know how I would create say a "keep alive" connection for a vb.net service.

Mar 28, 2011I have some vb.net code which should print out labels using Teklynx LabelView software (which I've had working before.)Problem is, it runs fine on Dev machine, but when I run it on the end user's PC, I don't get any error messages until it completely dies with the "Send error report to Microsoft" message.

Jul 14, 2011i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.

May 26, 2011I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET3.5. I've created a WCF service application. I'm including two DLLs that contain the types I'm returning. The first method I wrote works both in WCF Test Client and also in a console application I created to test. When I move on to the next method that returns a generic list of a type. It works great in WCF Test Client, but when I update the service reference it acts as if the service is unavailable. All my objects say can't find reference, and I can no longer see it in the object browser. It's like it just disappears. I can still see it in the Service Reference folder. If I go back to the WCF app and comment out the contract and implementation of that one method it work again. I created a local class very similar to the class I'm using from the dll, and the it works. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service("Option1"), New Service("Option2")}
Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?
