View 1 RepliesI am trying to work on a service where I need to export a report into a folder under the service project and email it to the user. The delete the report when complete. The issue I am having is I need to know how to access a folder under the project. I know you can use System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory to get into the bin where the excuting file is but I want to get to a folder is this possible? If not is there a way of creating the folder under the bin directory and accessing it. I can manually create a folder under the bin but didnt really want to do that.
View 1 RepliesI have a checkbox and a panel inside of a FormView control, and I need to access them from the code behind in order to use the checkbox to determine whether or not the panel is visible. This is the code that I originally used, but since I put the controls inside of the FormView, it no longer works.
Protected Sub checkGenEd_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As Object, _
ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
If checkGenEd.Checked = True Then

There aren't any errors anymore, but nothing happens when I click the checkbox. I think there needs to be some kind of event to trigger it but I don't know how you can put an event handler inside of an event handler.
I was toying with a T4 template's FileManager object, when I seemed to create a ".." folder in my solution. I was puzzled, as this shouldn't really be a valid user-creatable folder, and obviously, no ".." folder was created in the file system. So, I deleted it from within the VS Solution Explorer.I watched for four minutes as the entire contents of my solution's parent directory got deleted.

Can I get access to the code of an application without having the Project Solution file? We had someone leave the company and we need to get to the code that they created. What we have are the following files:[code]....
I only know how to access code by clicking on the project solution file for an application but I'm not sure if there is another way to do it.
How would I create a dir Inside %temp%? Then extract the file to it and Open a That folder. So far this is my code.

Whenever I create files in VB.net, the results go by default in the bin/Debug folder. I would like them to go in bin/Debug/Test without having to write the actual location, since the project folder may change from user to user (i.e. they don't place their project in the same folder I do).

View 5 RepliesOk I know this question has been asked to death but I still have not seen a good answer. I have created an application in VS2010 using VB.NET. In my application I have an error log that is an XML file located in the Public gstLocalErrorLogLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "ErrorLog"that gets written to in the event of an error so I can trouble shoot application easier. My application also downloads files from our FTP site and puts the files in Public gstLocalDownloadLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "download"So I have files that get read and written to as well and created and deleted all in the Application.StartupPath which is either "c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" or "c:Program Files (x86)(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" depending on 32bit or 64bit Windows 7.
After creating the setup I install it on my test machine that have both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.Everything in the application works great till I have to write to, delete or creat a file in those directories above. I know it is an access issue and the UAC. This will get installed on numerous systems so the options I have seen to change file or folder permission on the computers manually is not an option. What has to happen is after I install the application it just works like when you install it on XP. Some post have suggested that you us a user with administrator privilages or group which is all fine and dandy but the user I have used to test the application has all of that.
So what I am asking is how do you create an application with VS2010 in VB.NET that after creating a setup package and installing on Windows 7 will just work with out "Access to the path c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File) is denied." If I have to install this on 100 Windows 7 computers it has to be a concreate no manually doing anything just install and work like when we installed on XP.
mbedde resources writing to temp folder and they all works fine but i have the exe that requires the files in a folder example folder1 , my path isMy.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.Temp for all the files im using but how can i addMy.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.Temp.folder1to string so it creates the folder and i can write the two files to this one instead of regular temp ????
View 18 RepliesI am using Visual Studio 2008 Setup project. I need to copy one folder and the sub folders into the program files but when I tried to copy or add the folder to "Application Folder" in File System editor, I am able to add only files and not folders.
View 1 RepliesWhat I'm trying to achieve is for a file to be copied from a templates folder to a project folder. The project folder path is constructed using the selected item in a combo box and a list box. [Code]
View 4 RepliesIf I have a .dll, isn't it I can place it in a folder providing that the folder is included in the project? since I really do have a problem during publishing.
View 4 RepliesI have copied a folder with a project renaming the folder. I have then browsed and opened the project in the VB.Net 2005 IDE. I have then renamed the Assembly, root namespace, solution and project, searched and replaced all instances of original name, cleaned, rebuilt, tried deleting the bin and obj folders and rebuilt. But every time I run the newly named exe, when I try and start the original exe along side it nothing happens. it still thinks that the old exe is the same process? Both solutions are single instance applications. Why does it still think they are the same. I want the renamed copy to have slightly different functionality to cater for a different type of user but can't get both exe's to run at the same time which some users need. I can't see anywhere I have not changed the name for the new version.

I'm creating a number of textboxes, all calling a function during the onchange event to update their value to the database. These boxes are dynamically created in the backend because the data changes based on specific criteria that can be changed on the page. Here's the creation of the boxes:
Dim t as TableRow
tC = New TableCell
Dim txtBox As New TextBox
[Code]....
When I enter a number into the Textbox, the event fires as expected, but it fires twice.
I want to make an application that's pretty much all server side. I have everything sorted, apart from downloading images from my server. I have a listbox containing all the game names, in this format.
pacman
rallyx
mspacman
asteroids
There are many more, that's just an example.
Each game name is stored as a folder on my server. Inside those folders is the games boxart, called boxart.png. What I want to do is make an application that makes those folders and downloads the images. I have made the "create a folder for each game name" code already, now I just need to add another line or two to download the image inside those created folders.
For x As Integer = 0 To ListBox1.Items.Count - 1
My.Computer.FileSystem.CreateDirectory("C:UsersJoelDesktopids" + ListBox1.Items(x).ToString)

I have a very simple class that is located within my App_Code folder in my VS2008 web application project. I am trying to instantiate an instance of this class from my code-behind file. Intellisense does not seem to be seeing my class and I am not sure why. I am using VB.NET which I am admittedly not that familiar with as compared to C#. Perhaps I am missing something. I would bet it has something to do with something I am missing in VB.NET.Here is my simple class (for testing):

I can usually find the answers to most of my questions via the Google Gods, but not this time.I have a form that has a TabPageControl and on that page a collection of labels and text boxes via a usercontrol.
On the form I have a button that allows the user to create a new tabpage, when the code adds a new page, it automatically adds the UserControl collection. I can't get my head around how to access the objects on the newly created tabpage.
What I need to be able todo is take the index of the tabpage that has focus and translate that against the UerContol name, but I havn't a clue how to do it!

I have a DataList inside another DataList. I want to access the child DataList "dlQuestion" events, ItemDataBound event. Also, I'm tring to find the control LableControl "lblQuestion" in the child datalist. How do I do that? Here's the mark-up:
<asp:DataList ID="dlSection" runat="server" Width="100%">

I am adding object directly to a ListBox, and inside this class, I've got a BitmapImage object.I'm using an ItemTemplate :

In my project, I have a local dataset (XSD) that I am using as local-temporary tables. I am getting a System.InvalidCastException when trying to access the field in one the tables. I believe this is because I my code is (incorrectly) not setting a field's value in a row before trying to access it.My problem is that the exception is breaking in the designer file and not in my code. As a result, I'm having difficulting determining which line of my code reading the field value before it has been set. Is there any way to configure Visual Studio to break in my code instead of in the designer created file?
