I am almost finished my project for a vb database app, but lack the apparent knowledge to make this last connection. My listbox populates fine on form_load. I have identified the "category id number" from the database as the identifier for my information to be displayed (from that field). The variable catID returns the proper "category id" number to match the information to be returned when clicked (a description is part of the field for the appropriate number)
I presume the extra sub procedure I wrote for another daCategory = New OleDbDataAdapter is probably not necessary, but I'm very confused. How do i QUERY the information from the database with variable catID? tblSamples.Category(#) to return tblSamples.description to textbox when called from the listbox. I am not/will not use a databinding approach. [Code]

Is there a tutorial out there for connecting an access database to a VB project? I want to create an appplication that generates numbers incrementally based on certain other conditions.
which I have been customizing in VB6, but I'd rather be doing the project in VS 2005.

Below is a link to a small zip file with an existing VB (2005 I think) program. [URL] This programs detects if the OS is Locked. I want to make a small edit, and have found the required code for the edit, but I have been unsuccessful at attempting to implement the code. As I said this program only detects windows locks and unlocks. What I want to do, is set it to run an exe when I lock my computer. Doesn't matter what the exe is, just a very basic program.
I however have not been able to find where I need to insert this code. The zip file contains about 6-8 files, I thought I found the if statement where I needed to drop the code but even when I added it to every if that seemed probably I couldn't get any result. what if statement the code I need to add should go into. honestly all I need, I can handle the code past finding that.

I'm using VB.Net to create a windows form application. One form has a DataGridView that displays data from a SQLServer table via a TableAdapter and BindingSource whose filter is set as I need it. Elsewhere on the same form I would like to show totals for four columns of the same table, but from a totally different set of rows. All I've been able to figure out is to create another TableAdapter - but this seems foolish since the SQL table data has already been brought into my application by the first TableAdapter. Is there a way to run a query on the DataTable that was filled by the first TableAdapter, and how do I get the query results?

I'm using LINQ to compare two DataSets with each other to create new rows and update existing. I've noticed that the complete comparison lasts ~1,5 hours and only one of the two cores is busy(Task-Manager is 50-52% CPU Usage). I assume that it could increase performance significantly.
how and what should I parallelize?
These are the original queries(reduced to the essentials):
'check for new data
Dim srcUnique = From row In src.Email_Total
Select Ticket_ID = row.ticket_id, Interaction = row.interaction, ModifiedAt = row.modified_time

I have a text file that needs to be uploaded to a ftp , however it needs to overwrite any existing file with that name.the filename will never change but data inside does, thats why we need to upload it to provide the most current data.filename = rawdata.txt..I have a basic form with a timer or button to send the file, I just need the code. In the mean time im messing with my last post code to see if there is a way to modify it to upload files but not having much luck. You Know Your Addicted To Computers When - Your main computer is a 7 terabyte, Core2Quad 3 Ghz +, with 4 or more gigs ram, over 200 programs installed, and you would rather sit with it programming than go to the movies!I've got 13 PC's in the House and 7 are in my bedroom and my main one exceeds this set of stats. Does anyone know a good psychologist?

I am connecting to an Access database and using a parameter query with the LIKE operator to return all rows that match query. The string to search for is taken from a Textbox
sql =
"Select * FROM Allview WHERE Info Like" &
"*" &
CStr(TextBox1.Text) &
"*"
The query does not return any data in vb, but when run from access with same string, there is data returned. The connection to the database is done correctly, as I am able to return data with various other queries.
Partial code :
Dim
con As
New OleDb.OleDbConnection[code]....

I am trying to run a query an Access db from VB. The general query which I want to run is
SELECT * FROM Patient WHERE Patient.PatientID = ?
or SELECT * FROM Patient WHERE Patient.PatientLname = ?
I tried using an input box which captured the user input and pass that variable to the query, but that failed. Then I read about writing a function and using that, however, I keep getting an error which says Function not defined, but when stepping through the code, it seems to work. Here is my function: [Code]

ListBox1.Items.Clear()
ListBox3.Items.Clear()
ChDir("C:")
Try

It searches through your whole C: for the file you entered. Although the problem I get is that some directories get access denied or not existing directories.

I have 15 years' worth of files (approx. 10,000) that were created using VB6 structures and stored using the random access method. I am trying to write a conversion routine that will read the old structures and put them into a new format that is more compatible with the .net environment. I have not been able to successfully read any of the old files using the tools available in .net. Each file starts with a header record structure. The header record tells me how many tags are in the file. The next record (ie record number 2) is the first tag pointer record in the file.
There are num_of_tags of the pointer records. Each pointer record has the string that holds the tag's 'literal name and two long integers that tell where in the file this tags records are. Those actual records are stored as History data structures, [Code]

how to update records on an existing access database using vb.net with just a textbox and a command button and how a specific record of a field can show up in a label or a textbox
i connected vb.net to my access database by just clicking on "add new data source">>"new connection">>"microsoft access database file" and just continue..tested connection and done.
you can see in the screenshot of my form, by default the left side textboxes are disabled but they're enabled if the user checks the checkboxes and disabled again if unchecked.
assuming that the textbox is already enabled and i want to enter a value in the Brewed Coffee area of the form...for example 5. when i click on my Submit button the value of that particular record in the database will be updated, so in my table the value of the quantity field in Brewed Coffee will be 5.
another thing is that how can i see a particular value on a label or textbox from my database like on the Prices area. in my database if a product's price is 80 then it should show a 80 in the label. the values of the prices from the screesnshot of the form are not the ones on the database xD i just typed them in.

I'm using the following code to import data from a text file into an existing Access table:
Code:
Imports System.Data.OleDb
Public Class Carrega_CSV
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
[Code]....
The first time i ran the code, it caused no error but no records where loaded into the table. The second time it causes the OleDbException "Table 'TEMP' already exists." The text file is comma delimited and it has exactly the same number of columns of the TEMP table.

How to link my app to an Access database - there seems to be a number of approaches. I can add in my database via the Data Sources tab. Fine if I want to bind controls and view/edit data. But is this the best approach for queries that return an answer that is a different shape to the original table? Alternatively I can connect to the database directly (connection string, etc) and run sql queries. What are advantages/disadvantages of each approach? In terms of flexibility, is the second approach best? Also, does the second approach require the database to be added via the Data Sources tab?
