Html Links In Visual Studio Comments?
Jun 21, 2010
When investigating effective methods of documenting our VB .NET project, by experimentation I discovered that I can make a comment like'See the file at file://path_to_file and I can then ctrl-click on this link to bring up the file in a new tab. Is this feature and perhaps other capabilities of Visual Studio comments documented anywhere? I would like to make a system of documentation consisting of an html pages that link to code, and vice versa.

I'm trying to put newlines in my XML Comments in VB.Net. I've read two other posts about C#, XML multiline comments in C# - what am I doing wrong? Adding line breaks to comments for Intellisense But the suggested <para> or <br/> tags don't work. This,
''' <summary>
''' <para>Line one</para><br />
''' <para>Line two</para><br />
''' </summary>
[code]....
Still appears like this:How can I make this work?

ETA: Visual Studio 2010 VB Express edition exhibits the same behaviour.
ETA: Visual Studio 2010 C# Express edition does NOT exhibit the same behaviour.
In VisualStudio 2008 VB Express edition, I specify the following comments:
''' <summary>
''' ...
''' </summary>
''' <remarks>
[Code]....
If I compile the file and examine the .xml, I see that the comments are being included in the reverse order to what I specify ie. Part3 appears before Part2 appears before Part1.
Additional behaviour: If inline comments are interspersed between the external includes, they are all written to the xml first and then the includes (in reverse order)!
let there be an option called 'Turn off unintuitive xml comment behaviour'

I have traced the function and tried to find the link it calls but looking at the code below I tried inserting the link into the browser with the main url but it does not work.

Using MVC, EF 4.2. I am working on an application that has a comment section. Right now if a user enters a comment that contains HTML e.g.<b>text</b>and hits submit i get the message "A ptentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected..."How do i handle html on the way into the db? Should I just strip the html? Or encode it? I tried server.htmlencode the text but i still had the same error message.

here is the test code:
Sub Main()
Dim base_dir As String = "D:"
Dim test_file As String = base_dir & "72.htm"

The HTML file contains the start and end comments and a good amount of HTML in-between. Some content in the HTML file is in Arabic.

I have to develop an application using MS Visual Studio 2005 or above with the following objective:
* The application should allow users to create as many new forms as they want and each form should behave like a MS Visual Studio WinForm. By saying that it should be a container for drag and drop of controls from the toolbox that I will develop....
* Once the user design's each screen to his taste by placing various controls on the form, he should be able to save the form as a screen. Of course I have to provide functionality for each of the controls such as if he drags a button on to the form, he should be able to specify what action it has to perfom when clicked when the application is put into run mode. Quite similar to regular windows form button.
* My application should have two modes: a DESIGN MODE, where user can drag, drop controls and specify what they should do when put into RUN MODE. This is quite similar to MS Visual Studio designer.
* Last but not least is to be able to access the application via the browser with the same look and feel his desktop version.

I have a Visual Basic project and when working and modifying code, the compiler will crash and then a message will say something like "Microsoft visual studio encountered a problem and was shut down." I've tried editing code from the solution and the project. Both produce the error. Usually occurs when adding an "IF...Then..." condition. May work for hours but then crash. Solution will compile and build.

I certain html page contains links that are displayed with each onclick event. I am unable to parse the html for the url that will follow these onlick links. If this is the source on the page, how do I capture the content that each onclick link displays. In other words for example:
[Code]....
Now this is the onclick link that will display some content which I need to capture. Basically I want to be able to activate the onclick event from a program to display and capture the url links from that specific page.

I've been programming in VB.NET 2005, 2008 and now 2010 for almost 2 years. Just casual little applications, nothing big.In this project I need to parse links from a web page, it doesn't quite work though, it parses the names only and no links.I'll give you my code, let's say for a random page:
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
TextBox1.Multiline = True
WebBrowser1.Navigate("http:www.buyfixuse.com")
[code]....
If I activate this function in my application instead of links to the two blog posts on that website, it only gives out the text that is related to these links - (more...)

I tried using it and to get it to work I had to add some code to my project:
Public Enum HRESULT
S_OK = 0
S_FALSE = 1
E_NOTIMPL = &H80004001[code].....
I didn't like the fact that I had to use the MSHTML stuff (cause I think IE uses it also, and we all know that IE sucks :) ) and that I had to add code the make it work.Don't want to start a browser-war thread so neglect my last remark.Is there a different (/better) approach of parsing html-pages in VB.Net.Basically what I'm trying to do is get all the links (<a> tags) and embeds (<object> tag) on a page.

In a while loop, I am writing a progressively increasing integer value (between 0 and 100) to the Value attribute of a ProgressBar control, when it disappears from the window in which it resides. I have verified at the time that it disappears that the Min is 0, Max is 100, and Value is a valid integer in range.
