Writing To The Eventlog In Win7, With Instance Of Eventlog And .WriteEntry Being A Shared Member
Dec 8, 2010I have an app the writes to the eventlog correctly in xp. The code does not work in win7.

I get an error about inaccessable logs:security. I get that. Run as admin it goes away. I do not want to have to do that every time for every user that runs the app. besides they may not have the rights
So I wanted to make an instance of eventlog and set the Log to write to so it does not search the logs and error out on security.

Now i get warnings about "Access of shared member, constant member, enum member or nested type through an instance; qualifying expression will not be evaluated."
How the hell else are you to set the log so that the code will work under win7 with normal user rights AND not get this silly warnings?
I have 71 places that I write to the eventlog. that may or may not be too many but that is for another thread.

Nov 4, 2010I have recently created an application where a lot of data is loaded into objects when the application starts up, and other data as it is required. For example if the user requests the catalogue page then it will load all the top level category data into objects of type Category. This will then stay there to be used by other users (who will therefore not have to load this data into objects) and can be altered by admin if they happen to login during the same application instance. I know this is not the most efficient solution, as pointed out below, but it works and the page load, at the moment, is not too long. It is very quick if most of the required data is already loaded into objects. It is also tailored to the business' needs - unlike other techniques such as Linq-to-SQL.

Sep 30, 2010I am really confused! My program doesn't work if I don't have Visual Studio here in my PC. To test it I have uninstalled Visual Studio. But my program doesn't work though Flash Player is present there (I have used Flash animation in the first form).
To be more sure about it I have installed Flash. But it's not working! That means the Flash animation file (.swf) is not making a problem! It needs support from Visual Studio to start. Doesn't it mean that some files are not attached with a setup file as a result it needs Visual Studio to run? Let me tell you how I create a setup file of my program.

Sep 18, 2009I have written a number of programs that query the Event viewer of a windows server box, but have never been able to figure out how to do it from the top of the list. The default appears to be from the bottom up. Normally that would be fine, but I am going to soon be writing an application that runs as a service and polls the Event Log for updates constantly. Where the problem is sitting at right now is out log files are huge and necessarily so. What I want to do is query the logs from the top down and break out once I get to the log time that my previous polling had reached. Is there a way to read from the logs from the top down?I had recently kicked around the idea about passing it into a Collection and scanning it from there, but haven't researched that process too much yet. Not sure if you can control how you scan a collection.

Apr 14, 2011The program allows users to insert Documents along with a bunch of their attributes into the program. The documents are stored in a relational database. One of the required functionalities is allowing the user to look for such documents. The User normally search directly for the obvious attributes of the document, like a unique ID, or it's Title. The problem is that from the search parameters is not allways known which ones will the user fill. For example the user inserts the name and version of the deocument, another time the user enters part of the Title and the person that delivered the document, or might just enter the document number and nothing else. Some of the data might even be incomplete, like title, name of the person who created the document and so on. The idea from the person who designed the system (I'm only reimplementing it) was to allow easier searches for the user, and allowing the user to search for more parameters tod with the idea that "the more parameters, the more specific results", since the results are always group of documents instead of single documents.

Create EventLog Event Source For Standard Users?
Sep 14, 2011My applicaiton makes use of the Event Log to log exceptions and Informational messages, however when logged in as a Standard User who has limited access, I am receiving the Exception[code]...
I understand that the Event Source cannot be found in the log I am writting to (Application) and the application is attempting to create the Event Source but before it can be registered all Logs need to be reviewed to make sure the Event Source isn't already in use.

Dec 3, 2009So im trying to allow the user to send a message to an application on a server telling it to do different things. So i build the client and the server side applications and tested them on my computer and another computer here. Everything worked great, just like i wanted it to.
When I moved the server application to the actual server and tried connection via the internet, it did not work. I got the error message: An error has occured : A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond IPADDRESS:PORT
Well then I realized chances are a VPN connection to my server and using my servers name instead of my servers IPADDRESS would fix this problem, which it did.
I dont want to require the user to have to create a VPN connection, i dont really care reather they use the IPaddress or not, although if theres a fix for that too it would be great. Heres my code: (I have marked where the error occured)

Dec 10, 2011I'm Writing a class to Encapsulate the RegisterHotkey Windows API, So I needed a Message Loop to catch the WM_HOTKEY message and I was directed to use a ApplicationContext as a replacement of my form, and then I needed to add a Class that Implements IMessageFilter to monitor the Window Messages.
