Launch An Excel Document In Windows, Edit It And Get The Application To Ask To Save It?
Nov 1, 2010
I can launch Excel with the document I want using VB.Net 2010:
Dim p As New System.Diagnostics.Process
p.StartInfo.FileName = "c: empmyfile.xlsx"
p.Start()
Excel starts OK with the file opened. I edit the file, but when I close it down, Excel doesn't ask if I want to save changes. So it closes and loses my edits.
If I do the same with a text file:
Dim p As New System.Diagnostics.Process
p.StartInfo.FileName = "c: empmyfile.txt"
p.Start()
It opens (in Notepad++), I edit it and close it, and Notepad++ asks if I want to save changes.
I've now tried similar code with a Word document - and that's OK. Also with an OpenOffice Sheet document and that works as well.
This behaviour is happening in Windows 7 with Excel 2010. It works as expected in Windows XP with Excel 2007.
I was trying to edit a excel document and save under different name and my coding for this is as follows.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click 'Open Dim MyExcel As New Excel.Application MyExcel.Workbooks.Open("C:\Test\WalkAir.xlsx") 'Extract MyExcel.Sheets("sheet1").Activate() [Code] .....
While debugging the code it resulting with me an error message as Public member 'SaveAs' on type 'ApplicationClass' not found.
We have a company intranet and the powers that be think it would be nice to have a collection of icons/links representing the applications that most reps use (Outlook, Excel, few other apps).
The idea would be that if the application is installed, clicking the link/icon would launch the application on the client machine.
Anyone ever had a requirement like that and been successful implementing it?
I am using the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel library in an ASP.NET application, and I have populated a Worksheet in a Workbook. I want the user to be prompted to Save the document to their machine, but I cannot find a way to do it (myWorkbook.SaveAs(...) doesn't work).
I run the app under current logged in user from the service.To give you background, I have a VB.NET Windows service whose sole functionality is to run a Winform App at a specified time. Apart from that it also sets a system wakeup timer so that the system can be woken up at the specified time, if it goes into standby/sleep, to run the app. This service has to cater to XP/Vista/Win7 desktops on our network. This service won't run on servers and laptops.
The Winform App shows a UI for the user to provide some inputs. If the user does not provide the input within 15 minutes, then it defaults the value and then goes into system tray icon. The user can click on the icon and change the values later (within in a specified time frame and that too only twice).
There is absolutely no interaction between the service and the winform app apart from the service starting the app. It also monitors if the app has been killed by the user/crashed. If it has been killed/crashed, then a new instance is run after 30 mins from previous run.
If there is no user logged on, then also I want the app to be run at the specified time. As I said before, the app has a default timer. So if some user has just logged off from the system, then defaults would be set by the winform app.Now coming to why I am stuck with this design - I cannot use TaskScheduler because it has been disabled on all machines and security team is not willing to change it. TaskScheduler had the option to wakeup the machine from sleep and other things. So basically I ended up creating a service which is acting like task scheduler.
Currently when I run the app.exe via process.start() within the service, its running under SYSTEM account as the service is also running under LOCAL SYSTEM. So basically I am not getting any UI. Is there anyway to run it under the current logged in user? I am not worried about multiple user login as we wont be running it on servers and switch user is not enabled on our desktops. Even if somebody has done a remote login via mstsc, then also I need the run the app and show the UI to the user.
I have seen various applications that can be launched from a link embedded in a web page. example: irc ://irc .freenode.net/#roomname Opens IRC and joins the room.
I am converting several VBA projects to Windows form applications. The only problem I have is that some of the functionality of Excel is essential to the application, such as R1C1 formulas. I do not want to instantiate the Excel application or access saved worksheets. All of the data is retrieved by querying Oracle databases. 2-Dimensional arrays are not an option because the columns contain differing datatypes, and DataGridViews are too slow to work with.
I thought simply dimming a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet object would be enough, but the program kept failing and upon inspecting the object's elements in debug mode, I found that every value says this:
{"Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.WorksheetClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel._Worksheet'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{000208D8-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE))."}
I have a program that allows a bank to view clients information.The app will allow the users to click next and previous buttons to see clients information.I also added an edit button and save button to it.
Public Class AccountInformationForm Private clients(0 To 8) As Client ' Client object Private position As Integer = 0

My problem is with the edit button. I want the user to click on the button, gives the message, then gives the option to edit the four accounts.(firstname,lastname,account number and balance)I can do this type of thing in java but unsure about this code.
i'm trying to save an excel file after I open my excel application. This is what I have so far:

When saving as an xls it works fine but when saving as a htm its a disaster Just a bunch or symbols and stuff. BUT if I go into my xls document and Save As webpage from there, it works fine!
I am busy with a Windows Forms application.The purpose of the application is to convert Excel documents to HTML format so that they can be published to a website.I have most of the code finished and the application is looking really good.I have although encountered a problem. On the Form I have created an Export, File and Edit button.With the edit button I would like the user to be able to select whether they would like to save the 1st,2nd,3rd sheet and so forth.
I would like to create a window/Form within the edit button that would say something like "select excel sheet" along with a save button where the required sheet number could be saved or selected as a standard save procedure everytime.I know that I need to do this with the settings.settings control. I have tried numerous ideas up until now but it continues to baffle me.
A year ago I saw a beautiful simple code that gets a data table and saves it in an excel file. The trick was to use the web library (something with http) and I'm almost sure it was a stream. I find a lot of code with response but I can't make it work in a win-form environment. There is also a cell by cell code - not interested -too slow. I want to paste it as a range or something close.
I am exporting data to excel and try to save to a folder which is in my application...but the excel is saving defaultly in C:Documents but i wanted to save in E:ApllicationReports Here is my code to generate excel sheet
If ComDset.Tables(0).Rows.Count > 0 Then Try With Excel .SheetsInNewWorkbook = 1
I am trying to write a code to save and open data that is in my application. My application contains hundreds of text boxes, combo boxes and labels. I have created an array for each set of data, i.e.,
glist(0).store=combobox1.value glist(0).cat=combobox2.value glist(0).it=label3.text glist(0).quan=label4.text glist(0).total=label5.text up to glist(89).
Is there a way to write a code to loop through the array and save the values so that they can be opened at a later time in my application? The array will contain Doubles and Strings.
I am exporting the contents of one excel file data to the other excel file by using the range excel object in a windows application. while declaring the object, am getting the error like type excel object is not declared. [Code]
I have an executable built with VB2005 which is used to launch a password protected excel workbook, and the exe is used to hide the password then run some macros to setup menu commands and protect the workbook so that it can't be altered by the users.
The exe was built by registering the 11.0 version of Microsoft.Office.Interp.Excel in the project, and builds successfully. I can launch the spreadsheet sucessfully on my own desktop using Office 2003 and have tested everything on another 2 other independent desktops using Office 2003 however when I make it available for wider use, I have received a lot of feedback that excel will simply not launch when the exe is run. I had a look at one of the desktops where Excel wouldn't run and there were no associated entries in the Windows Event Viewer that I could see.
It seems that there are no problems running the exe using Office 2007.
My development machine was recently re-imaged with Office 2007 and I re-installed Office 2003, and re-registered the Excel PIA to allow it to work with Excel 2003. NOt sure if this could be hangover of having originally built the exe with Office 2007 then reverting of '2003.
Apologies if this is fairly basic stuff but I'm at a bit of a loss what to look for to identify why the exe will sucessfully launch Excel on some PCs but not others using the same operating system and version of Excel.

I want to save medical images that means scanned images,x-rays and other medical images , so how to save these images in my project by using vb.net windows application. And my database is Oracle 10g.
i Have this code which populates a number of combo boxes from an excel document, the problem is that it only populates the 1st three lines, does anyone know why this is??
I'm using Process.Start method to launch another application from my application. Until today, there was no problem. But I have tested my application in a different OS, Windows XP (SP3), and my application didn't work right on that. I'm also using arguments to run that application. I guess for some reason my application couldn't send arguments to other application correctly under Windows XP. Maybe it is related to my code. But you should know, it works great on Windows 7.
1. I have a button, and registry entries, each tell me what version and where it is located. Example : (reg path = HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareTNL) Path = c:program filesmyprogram Regan = us
The program its launching is called caw.exe. but it requires diffrent locations in a file named realms.*** file to work properly. Basically if Regan = us, do this, else if regan = eu do that, else if regan = tu do this. I need to basicly erase everything in that file and replace it, the file location is located under : "PATH"/data/en"Regan"/realmlist.*** The PATH and Regan need to be replaced with correct paths.
2. After it has finished modifying the File it saves it and then Launches Path/caw.exe
