Is there a function which would search for the last occurrence of a certain substring and return the index of it?
For example, if I want to search for the last occurrence of the char '' in a file path 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft'.
How to extract date & time for the string: "28 Oct 2011 7:00 pm ".
I used instrRev find first space, but how to find the next occurence blank space.
This should be fairly simple but i'm having one of those days, can any1 advise me as to how to replace the first and third occurance of a character within a string, i have looked at replace but that cannot work as the string could be of different lengths, all i want to do is replace the first and third occurance?

I wan't a method with which to find a string within another string. It should return the position of the first occurrence of the substring. (In VB 2008 !)
View 2 RepliesI have my program set up to download a web page with a webclient. Normally, I could just use .Substring, but there are about 25 things I need to pluck out of this page, and .Substring, or at least the way I have it set up, takes the first occurrence. The good news is, they are all URLs; they are all similar too.
Each URL is as follows: [URL]
Now, of course, this URL is just made up, but each URL starts with [URL] and ends with 'video'.
How can I hook this up so that it scans the entire page (contained in a string, read from a StreamReader connected to a WebClient), finds each URL, and then adds it to a listview?
Can I do anything more or less with IDictionary? How do these two collections differ?

I want the Function to accept List(Of String), Array & String and similarly return List(Of String), Array & String respectively. The Function simply adds a string (month) to the input collection. I just want to use it for string, array and list with needing to think of conversions.

View 1 RepliesI have buttons generated through code (dynamically). I have to associate an event (the same) to them. I use AddHandler button.click, AddressOf mysub.The issue is that mysub gets a string (mysub(string)), but AddressOf doesn't accept a parameter inside the routine. How can I do this? Using also an alternative to AddressOf.

I have a field that I display via: String.Format({0:c},amount) This produces the string "$28.28" However, when I try to convert back to a decimal amount, I get an incorrect format exception: amount = Decimal.Parse(amount.Text, NumberStyles.Currency) I also tried it with NumberStyles.AllowCurrencySymbol with the same results. I verified that the value in amount.Text is "$28.28". Am I missing something? Shouldn't these two operations use the same currency symbol and formats?

I need a regular expression that can validate that a string is an alphanumeric comma delimited string.
Examples:
123, 4A67, GGG, 767 would be valid.
12333, 78787&*, GH778 would be invalid
fghkjhfdg8797< would be invalid

2- Create sub-string
3- Erase a portion of a sting

To perform all the above mentioned tasks you can only use pointers. Create a function to perform every task.
So strings are reference types right? My understanding is a reference to the string in the heap is passed even when you pass the string ByVal to a method.

when i transfer the bytes sent by the client program to a string the string length is affected.when i put the bytes sent by the client program to a message box. it returns the corrrect text. but when i check the length it will return 8192 or higher. but the actual size is just 5.
