I wanna make a group box that appears behind my labels and other controls (which I create from inside the code). I dont need the controls to be in the group control collection, I only need the box because it looks nice. Right now it appears on top of all my controls.

During the time a file is open or saved, the file open /save dialog becomes blurred by the background labels. Is there any way to prevent this? The attached pic is given as an example to explain the dilemma.

I went and created a tab containing a good amount of controls, most of which are contained within what I'll just call the top-level group box. Now I decide I'd like the text of the top-level group box to be bold, but nothing else. When I set the top-level group box's font to bold, however, all of the controls contained within it become bolded as well, which is what I don't want. I can set each individual control's bold property to false, but it seems like there should be an easier way to do this.

View 4 RepliesI'm trying to make an autoupdater, so I've made it search for updates in the beginning and that works fine. But now when the update form is supposed to open, it goes a while and then it says "File Download Complete". So that means the form must have been executed, but it does just not appear. But when I click ok on the dialog, the updater form appears, but with all controls white. Here's my updater.vb: [URL]
I'm using Kleinma's WebFileDownloader class.
I suspect that the problem might be that the updater's form doesn't get it's events handled or doesn't get redrawn.
So I know how to get a form inside a form.. I've got

1. How can I make it appear above the controls?
2. How can I make the form center in my main form?

To make it clear:
I have one form, Form1.
I have 3 buttons: Button1, Button2 and Button3, and I have 2 labels, named Label1 and Label2.
I have 2 "groups", in group1 there is Button1, Button2 and Button3. In group2 there are the two labels (Label1 and Label2).
But how can I program that, that if I write (for example) "Group1.Hide()", then everything In Group1 hides (visible = false). And so on with group2.
I programatically add a group of UserControls to a flowLayoutPanel control.
sometimes I need to destroy that group of controls, but have no idea on how to do it.
assigning the flowLayoutPanel variable to nothing only erases the pointer, but the controls remain in the window.I have found a page in MSDN saying that the best way to destroy a control is to call the DestroyWindow API, to destroy the container window. But I don't want to destroy the container window.
I have 53 text boxes in my windows forms application. I need to save the "text" of all the textboxes into a single file. Is there a way, I can control all the textboxes as a single textbox group and use its properties.

View 4 RepliesI have a group of controls dynamically added to a forms with a name like "OptionID_#" where the "#" is unique number.1st I need to check if these controls are checked/unchecked, but am having a difficult time even finding them to make that first check.I thought controls.find might work, but Controls.Find ("Option ID_" True) dues not seem to find my controls.2nd I need to get the "#" from each of those checked options.I think that Split(conControl.Name, "_") should work to get me two different parts one with the OptionID, and the other with the "#".Still stuck on the first part though of actuall locating the controls I need.

I'm trying to make a label transparent. When I set the BackColor to transparent, all it does it take the color of the form it's sitting on, i.e. It's not truly transparent. I've googled it and found this in another thread (from a MSFT MVP)".NET controls do not support true transparency. You can set their BackColor to Transparent (in some but not all cases) and the parent control will show through, but only the parent control. If there is some other control behind that is not the parent it will not show through. That's because the control is not truly transparent. It basically copies its parent in the area behind it and uses that as its background, but that doesn't include sibling controls that may be behind it as well." To me, this is completely unacceptable. Why even include the transparency option when all it does is set the control's backcolor to the form color? I'm trying to add a label over a progress bar to give my user some feedback (because the Visual Studio progress bar doesn't support text, which is also a horrible design shortfall by the way), and have yet to find a way around this.

I have a project with lots of forms in there with the default font property of Microsoft Sans Serif, 8.25pt
How do I change the font for all forms to let's say Tahoma, 8.25pt without changing it manually per form?
I have a form with many buttons on it and I would like to loop through all the controls in a group control and find out which button is clicked.
I plan to use the click event of the button and I know it's easy to create a click event procedure for all of the buttons but would like to avoid that.
The group control is called GroupFilterButtons.
So basically what I'm trying to do is write data from an XML file (a "save file") back into the form. My controls are in all different group boxes (makes it much easier for showing and hiding groups of controls dynamically). I thought about and am putting each control's Parent name into the file, but can't figure out how to get that parent name back into the DirectCast within a For...Next loop so it will actually cast the data into the control.

View 7 RepliesI want to build a system that will take the input from an electric guitar and capture the frequency of the sound. and when the frequency is captured, the system identify the chord, and create new controls to represent the audio frequency. i want to use the label as the controls. so when the controls is created, how can i know that the user is click on what label. is there something like label1.click in vb 2005 express? then when the label is all created, i want the system to read all the labels integer as the sound of midi. so i have to assign what integer for what sound.
