I've been running through the online "Code Rules" tasks to work through Visual Basic. However I seem to be having a problem with one. The objective is to set a Button Click method to check if any number between 2-5000 is prime or not and to display it in the TextBox if it is prime. View 3 Repliesi wanted to create a random number generator that iterates through a series of number between an upper and lower bound. say between 1 and 100. Basically I want the number generator to pick the numbers randomly and then display them until all 100 numbers are picked without any duplicates. so thats easy I can code that. But what I don't know is how to show those numbers in the order they are generated on a windows form. So i have basically a variable that I will let be changed 100 times (or however many times I want, I don't want their to be a size constraint just using 100 as an example) and each time the number is generated I want it displayed on screen (in a list or something not sure what. Hopefully some type of scrollable list) and each successive number also to be displayed in same format beneath it so that I can see the list in its entirety. What type of form control do i use for that? I could do messagebox.show for each iteration but then user is required to hit ok after each iteration and that would obviously be a bad idea if user selected a large number to work through. Anyways, code isn't exactly necessary just point me in the right direction, i.e.what control (if any) to use.how to format the change in data?
View 7 RepliesI'm working on a console application in VB .net that checks a number that the user has inputted, and tells you whether the number is prime.
The number that has to be inputted has to be between 1 and 100. I have all the code so far and at the moment it can check whether the number is or isn't within the boundries.
What i'm trying to do is compute whether an integer number is prime or not. The program performs this analysis for all odd numbers from 3 up to an input integer limit, for example 100. If the integer in the range 3 to limit is prime, a message stating so is printed. Otherwise, a message is printed that lists at least one other integer divisor. The output for each analyzed number consumes one line of text.
A sample output is shown below:
Limit is 100:
Number 3: is prime
Number 5: is prime
Number 7: is prime
[CODE]...
I understand I need to use loops, boolean functions, vbmath(), strings and multi-line out via concatenation. So I can put this is words how I think it should be done but not so great putting the code together
Test all integers up to the SQRT of the number (100)
limit = math.sqrt(100) + 1
Followed by 1 For statement
For c = 0 to 100 step 2?
And an If statement
If ......
result = false
I just started to use visual basic last month and I only know the basic codes. No matter how hard I try to understand the codes given by the other member, I can't understand it.So the program I'm making is to show all the inputted values and determine the even numbers, the odd numbers and the prime numbers.I don't know how to get the prime numbers.
Private Sub op1_Click()
a = InputBox("Input Endpoint: ")
For x = 1 To a

I have this program generating a firstname and lastname from a file. When I run this program I enter information in three textboxes. The first two are the salary low and high(salary1.text, salary2.text) and the last one is the number of "copies"(copies.text) that I want.. When I put a number such as 10 in the text box it outputs some of the same names. The firstname file has around 100 records and the lastname file has about 1000 records Why is it generating the same name The problem is even worse if I do something like 1000 copies.. it outputs the same thing 8 times and then does something different another 8 times
Public Class Form1
Dim sex As String
Function randomfirstname()
Dim infile As IO.StreamReader

I've been trying to create a function that checks if a number is a prime. according to [URL]..I have created a function although It doesn't work as expected.
[Code]...
It sometimes returns true for composite numbers. oh and I know if you google it you get functions that do this, but most of them look inefficient so i'm trying to make my own.
i wrote some code that is suppose to get the prime number from the user and give its factors but there's some error
Dim t As Double
Dim n As Double
Dim ans As Double
Dim exp1 As Double
[code].....
I have this piece of code which checks whether a given number is prime:
If x Mod 2 = 0 Then
Return False
End If
[code].....
I am not getting an output with a list, I can only get the last number of the statement in a text box.
Dim lowerLimit, upperLimit, primeNumber As Integer
Dim isPrime As Boolean = False
lowerLimit = CType(TextBox1.Text, Integer)
upperLimit = CType(TextBox2.Text, Integer)
While lowerLimit < upperLimit

I have a basic three form application. It doesn't seem to close after navigating through forms. If I were to open the application, and the main form is displayed. If I press the X button, the application closes fine(Goes from processes) If I were to open the application, and then navigate from the main form to another form using me.hide & form1.show, and press the red X on Form1, the application again, closes fine.

I have the requirement to create an application that has multiple front ends developed using Windows Forms, WPF, ASP and Compact Framework Mobile Forms.I would like to be able to create a series of obejct representing the business logic and have this logic accessible from the various front ends available. My first thought was to use remoting as I'd like to be able to pass the business objects back and forth between client and server but the compact framework doesn't support remoting and also transferring a full framework business object to a compact framework business object doesn't seem possible.My next thought was to use web services but again the passing of business objects seems to be very hard to accomplish. Without doing this I would have to create individual web methods for each business operation.
Finally my next option is to use sockets and write the whole client/server logic within some classes and expose them to the UI/Business layer. My only problem with this is it is not scaleable should the number of clients increase dramatically whereas using remoting or web services I can host the solution via ASP.Net.Does anybody have an ideas on the best way forward for this or even have any input on how they would write an application that required a windows form, wpf, asp website and mobile device GUI all of which want to use the same business logic?
I'm porting code that I wrote for use in a Windows Forms application to a Windows Service, but for some reason, the code that worked in the Windows Forms application is now throwing errors in the Service

View 1 RepliesI'm working on a project that involves localizing a large number of Windows Forms. We're dealing with layout using the TableLayoutPanel control, which works nicely. One area we're striking problems with is when we set the Form.Localizable property to True, we then end up having to manage one .resx file per form per language.
That would be fine if the .resx files only contained the Localized text, but it also contains a vast amount of layout data for the form. Is there a way to separate the localizable text elements from the control layout information, that continues to work in the visual studio IDE? I've noticed that I can modify my the form's designer file to look at another resource file, but when I use the form designer, these changes are deleted:
'Label1
Me.Label1.AutoSize = True
Me.Label1.Dock = System.Windows.Forms.DockStyle.Top
Me.Label1.Location = New System.Drawing.Point(3, 0)
Me.Label1.Name = "Label1"
Me.Label1.Size = New System.Drawing.Size(61, 13)
Me.Label1.TabIndex = 1
Me.Label1.Text = My.Resources.ResourceManager.GetString("Form1_Label1_Text")
I needed to make a program for finding prime numbers. The logic is that you have to put limits n & m and then LOOP and odd-integer P between n & m inclusive. I have a button to click on my form that displays 2 message boxes, one saying " enter upper limit" and the other say "enter lower limit". I need now to get the results of the odd prime numbers between the limits into a list box!
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

View 1 RepliesI was wanting to add a random number generator to an app of mine and I have the code that creates it:
Private Function RandomNumber(ByVal min As Integer, ByVal max As Integer) As Integer
Dim random As New Random()
Return random.Next(min, max)
End Function 'RandomNumber
What I can't get to work correctly is the following. I have a textbox for the min and max. The way I have it setup is when it generates it I have a MessageBox show it but it pulls the same number a few times in a row. How do I make it pull a different number each time until all numbers a pulled. I then want to add them to a listbox as each one is generated.
I need to create a multi dimensional array comprised of random numbers between 1 and 4. The reason why I need a mutidimensional array is because each number needs to be associated with a random letter of F or N. [ F or N are really Indicators or whether I should show the user Feedback on their results in the case of F. Or not show them Feedback in the case of N.] So within this array 2 random numbers will be associated with random F's. And 2 will be associated with random N's. For example the array should look like (1,F 2,F 3,N 4,N) or (3,N 2,F 1,N 4,F). The reason why I need this random array is because during the course of my application being ran 4 times (which represents the numbers) I want to insure that every time N is done 2 times and F is done 2 times. This is all to make sure that each Number 1-4 after 100 times the application is ran has the same amount of F's and N's. I was also wondering if someone knows a way to store how many times the application has been ran in asp.net so that I can recreate another random string after 4 application runs.
View 8 Repliesi already ahve a random number generator. the question is this, how do i go to the next number in the sequence when the random number generator is run.
View 8 RepliesI have a windows forms application written in VB.NET which scrapes information from serveral web pages (who doesn't right)? Anyway, I am having problem with one particular site where partway through the page navigation my application hangs. When I press pause (or break) in the debugger, it stops on a call to System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents.
Resuming execution shows that it really is stuck on this line (it does not reach the next line of code). It also hangs about the same point each time I run it (at least its consistent). Since System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents yields to other threads on the same processor and then resumes execution of the current thread, I think the problem is that some other thread is not behaving well (not returning from some event handling code). I thought Windows 7 was pre-emptive, which makes me
doubt that theory but I really don't know.
[Code]...
The program scrapes somewhere between 12 and 14 pages before it gets stuck on the call to DoEvents. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? Why would any call to DoEvents hang?
I am trying to use the System.Diagnostics.Process class.I have the following Windows Forms application. It consists of 1 Button and 1 TextBox. The only code is for the button click event as follows.

Dim myProcess As New Process()
