Possible To Inherit Such A Label In Order That Children Conserve That Property

Jan 25, 2010I'm experimenting with a plugin architecture for my company's internal business system. I have managed to read all .DLLs in a Plugin folder which implement a specific interface. What I am trying to figure out is the best method of communication between the "host" MDI parent application and forms that will be in the .DLLs which I intend to make MDI children.
Currently, I am returning just ToolStripMenuItem objects from the .DLLs to add to the MDI Parent. I've also tested that events wired in the .DLLs to the ToolStripMenuItems do propagate to the code in the .DLLs. I've also managed to return a Form object via the interface and open that form, as the Plugin folder is being "scanned".
However, I am not clear how I would make these forms MDI children. Also, any other forms living in the .DLLs will also have to be MDI children. I created a VS 2008 Addin project just to see what's going on, and it seems that the Addin accepts an Application object on which it adds to the ToolStripMenuItems and does other operations. The code to build the menu inside the .DLL. This is opposite of what I have done so far, where the MDI requests a ToolStripMenuItem from each .DLL and adds the returned object to its own menu.
Would designing my plugin architecture to accept an application object in the same manner the only way I could get forms to open as an MDI child? Am I asking for other, currently unknown to me, headaches by NOT passing in the application object to the .DLL?

.net - Make A Class Property Behave Like The Checked Property On RadioButton?
Jun 1, 2012I have a very simple class that holds a few public properties - ID, Text, Colour, etc. and a Boolean called 'SelectedItem'. Just like the Checked property on RadioButtons, only one item can have its SelectedItem property set to True within a particular group. Note: there will be several separate groups (lists), each allowed to have only one item with SelectedItem = True.
My first thought was that I would probably just have to handle everything outside of the class, setting SelectedItem to False for every other item in a particular list when another item was selected. But that seems rather inelegant to me. So I've been trying to think of how this might be done within the class. For example: could I perhaps have a private string property called say "GroupName" - set in the New sub when adding a new instance of the class - and then use a private shared method to set every item's SelectedItem property to False, provided the item has the same GroupName as the newly selected item? I would have a go at doing this but I have no idea how to enumerate every instance of a class from within that class, or whether that's even possible. Is it? Or is there another (better) way to achieve my goal? Here is a cut-down version of what I've got so far:

As can be seen: instead of instantiating a new ResourceItem and passing that as an argument to the manager's Add procedure, I'm simply passing the details of the new item and the procedure is creating the item from those. I don't know whether this is a good or bad idea - please advise - but I've done it because I couldn't figure out how to make the SelectedItem property only writeable by the manager, so I wanted to avoid having directly accessible objects that could have their SelectedItem property set to True without it deselecting all the other items in the same group. Of course that still leaves the possibility of setting a variable to one of the manager's list items and setting it from there, so I would still like to know how I could prevent that, if possible.
UPDATE: I didn't use the code above in the end, deciding instead to go with Cyborgx37's solution - which seems to work perfectly well for me despite the warnings about best practice. I also realised I would need to use the same class in another scenario where multiple items could be selected, so it was easy to add a Boolean property to the manager to enable that.

Unable To Make Keyboard Functions?
Aug 29, 2011I wanted to make a calculator. Its fully made and everything but I recently wanted to add more to it. Only thing I can't figure out to do is to make keyboard functions. It works to a certain point but i found out that the timer input multiple integers when pressing a key so I thought of about turning off the timer and then having the timer turn back on somehow but that is as close as i can get.

May 27, 2009I was thinking about writing some VB 2005 code that would be able to open an excel file and keep it open while I do things in separate functions/subs basically just check boxes, so each check box is its own sub but HOW do I do that with out opening and closing the excel file for every check box sub, since every time I make a check box the sub comes up as private?

VS 2005 : Make Program To Select A File, Create DataTables And Then Perform Some Other Functions?

I want to be able to open another file and re-do the same steps.The problem I am having is that I add columns to my Datatables and when I try and to open another file while one is already open I get a message that a column of xyz is already added how do I properly "clear my datatable" or perhaps that isnt even the correct approach? I want to make a property readonly to external calls, but allow access to that property from the collection class. I know I can use:[code]But, I want to the PreviousRow property to actually show as "ReadOnly" in the intelisense of the calling code of client app. The above does not. The only way that I see to make it show as "ReadOnly" in the called code is to mark the whole property as ReadOnly, but the problem with this is that my collection class code can no longer access this property:[code]I tried using the "Friend" declaration, but that seems to still allow Write access to the calling code.I only want write access from within the RowCollection class.

Each member tab has a right fair number of controls and dialogs.These tabs are all grouped by fours sequentially. Make A Mapping Between each Property And column #
Oct 21, 2009I have a situation where a class's properties are being exported/imported from an Excel sheet. Each property is in a specific column, so I want to make a mapping between each property and column # (a Dictionary collection would be sufficient). That way I can just loop through each property and/or column in the dictionary when read/writing data (maybe something like Class1.PropertyA = ws.Cells(curRow, Propto ColDictionary(PropertyA???).value). But, you obviously can't treat properties like other value types, so I don't know how I would store a property in a dictionary for this purpose. So could this sort of thing be achieved via reflection, or am I off-track?

Obviously this makes setting up you control nicer and more importantly to my program makes loading the form faster (setting the properties in the load event vs property page). I was trying to find something to start on but i didn't find a propety page in the "New Item" menu or even something like the "Property Pages" property of a usercontrol in vb6 where i've done this before. How can i make the equivalent of the vb6 property page in vb.net? Maybe with a form or a dialog?

Apr 15, 2010Is there a simple way of tracking the change of an Mdi's children i.e. when they are created and closed, something like an event OnMdiChildListChanged (I realise this doesn't actually exist).
I am also aware that I could have a method within my Mdi that handles the creation of child forms and logs the state of them or even create an Interface that defines that a child form has a "NotifyParent" method that is then called on close of the form, but i was wondering if there was any built in events that i could plumb into?

Jun 3, 2011I have four children in a parent container. Each child form is a test for the user to type correct answers into text boxes. Option to open each form is on a menu strip in the parent. In form load, I have disabled all but the first form option. I only want the second form to become available if the first form answers are correct. I would like to figure this out on my own as much as possible. I have searched on line but since I am not sure what to ask, I have not found and answer. Can someone get me started in the right direction? Perhaps some reading that would explain how to go about this, or what I should be typing into google to get what I'm looking for.

Not Loading All Children XML

I'm sifting through the dump of AniDB titles and everything works except that it only sees 7161 elements instead of 9200. Anyone have any idea why? It's not calling an exception on the load method as if something is wrong. Even when I change it to just take the root element and then get the count of children, it gives 7161. Like it doesn't even see the last 2000.
