I'm sure a lot of people around here tried Rainmeter or Google desktop. They are nice but I never felt comfortable using them on my desktop, either because they ate too many space or aren't much flexible in terms of settings and stuff that can be grabbed from the Webs. So I thought I'd make my own personal tools. It's intended for Windows 7. What language, VB or C#, should be easier to implement this kind of stuff (small panels with no borders/frames, small memory usage if possible) based on experiences of people?
my program logs data from two different meters in a .csv file. My problem is that when I open the file in excel, data1 and data2 appear in the same column..example:
data1 data2 data1 data2 etc...

I coded a small application in VB Express 2010 and I wish any one could provide for me some code on how to save personal settings from an options form so that the end user don't have to keep making their personal choices every time that start my application that I created.
Personally I don't have a clue on how to accomplish this feature with in VB Express 2010.
I used check boxes and radio buttons in the options section on a form for the end users choices.
I am planning to write a recipe storage program for personal use. I know what I want to do, but I am not perfectly clear on the most efficient way to do it. I am using SQL server 2005 and I am comfortable writing stored procedures. This is one of my first vb.net projects and I am still getting comfortable with ADO.net.What I want to do is create a form that can handle an list of ingredients of an unknown number.
The form will also accept a cooking procedure of an unknown number of steps. Each step will be written by the user into Rich Text boxes (vb 6 term?)I am planning to use combo boxes to select ingredients from a list or add new ingredients as needed. I also want to eliminate duplicates in the ingredients table of the sql 2005 db. I am looking for the most efficient method to save all the parts of a recipe to the database. saving a recipe will require dozens of database hits and therefore be unacceptably slow.

I have create a vb.net application with ms access. i am make it .exe.After that i am instal it my pc working but my friends pc not work. After i am cheking my friends system all. .net framework is intallaled 3.5 thats same as mine. Error ,indicate that application1 has encounterd a problome and needs to close. I am looking for the best way to capture and validate US & international personal data. I have to use ASP.NET 2.0 (vb.net) and no 3rd party web services. This are all client restrictions.
The main point of this is I have to toss their data to FedEx for a shipping quote. I think FedEx has a address checker but that web service was not approved in the scope of the project and its too late to get it added.
My current solution is to just let the field be required and free form then before I save their profile check to see if FedEx will return a quote. If it fails then I will ask them to recheck their profile or contact the admin.
i have to send emails when a person recieves a personal message on my website and for that i use a StringBuilder to create the HTML markup of the email.also since it is required at many other places as well i have made a Shared Fucntion (i am using VB.NET). now my only concern is that since shared functions are shared among all objects and maybe asp.net sessions, can it be possible that before one person email is being formed and another person access the same function, it would cause the data in the stringbuilder to be overwritten. currently my site doesn't have many users but can this become an issue in the future...please advise me on this...is there any better way or standard procedure to follow when using shared functions.also at one time i made the mistake of using a shared connection object and it would cause close if many people were to access it

But I am trying to get to the Personl folder of the current user in windows 7. Now there are two special folders: MyDocuments and Personal However they both lead to C:Users{USERNAME}Documents Shouldn't Personal lead to one back from that?
I'm a newbie in visual basic. I'm doing a login system. I'm done with the GUI. but for the programming part, I want to know where to store new user's information along with the username and password. I've done research. seems like it has something to do with database. p/s: I'm looking for high security in storing data to prevent hacking.
I'm a huge music person (got my own lil record thing going) but I'm wanting to design a program that would make music in my way. I have a decent amount of background knowlege of Visual Basic and Java I'm just wondering how could I execute this whole project. The Project is making a MPC Sampler. MPC is a drum machine; a machine with buttons that once you press it that it will play a sound from a drum (ex: snare, kick, tom, ect.) . So I would want to make some pads on my program that each have their own sound. Total of 16 pads. Which the design wouldn't be hard to make nor would the functionality of it having the play back sound (in my opinoin it wouldn't be hard atleast). But the thing is I wanna map out these pads to number keys on the number pad or keyboard. I'm not so sure how to do that. But that's all the easy stuff...
Also finding information is making a sound directory. What I mean by this is that I want to make a User Interface that will open up a file directory of sounds and the user can select what "kick" or "snare" sound he may want for the kick or snare pad. I don't know how to do that or even know what to search; neverless I don't know if this whole project idea is a good idea for Visual Basic or another programing language.
Also LATER ON I am wanting to add a record and export function that alows users to..well...record and export their beat or instrumental ha. That doesn't seem too too complex (mainly due to the fact that all it needs to do is record the users key strokes and then show them and play the sounds, but obviously it would get more complex than that.)

I tried reinstalling the downloads that did not using the VB Express 2010 setup, but they do no appear on the list of downloads, only the SP1 for MS SQL Server 2008 Express Server (x64).Do I require the downloads that did not load.
I just want to calculate age from two datetimepicker tools. The label should display - "XX years XX months xx days old". I have succeeded in calculating with respect to time, but failing w.r.t date.
I cannot find a tools in the toolsbox in vb.net where I need two panels with a blue button on the splitterbar to allow me to close/hide the panel on the left side. Very similar thing as I want to have them included in my program. http:[url]....That's the Toolstripcontainer but the blue button thing will not be visible when I debug the program. I have already set them to true but it still not showing so I gave up. Which tools in the toolsbox that has two panels that one panel go on the left, a button (like in the screenshot) in the middle between the left and the right panels which allow me to close/hide the panel on the left side?
If I write many subs and functions in my code, the tools on the interface will stop responding to some of the subs and functions. What can I do about that?
I have been trying to download the Visual Basic and it took me 3 days now to download because my network is not always good, so when the net is off, I have to start it over and over again.
