I'm a newbie in visual basic. I'm doing a login system. I'm done with the GUI. but for the programming part, I want to know where to store new user's information along with the username and password. I've done research. seems like it has something to do with database. p/s: I'm looking for high security in storing data to prevent hacking.
I am new here; say to everyone first. Here is the a question for coding list box; it has two part: first part: Create a project that stores personal information for a little electronic "black book"; the fields in the file should include name, phone number, pager number, cell phone number, voice mail number, and Email Address. allow the user to enter the data into text boxes. (This part is very easy, The trouble maker is in the second part).
second part: create a second project to load the names into a list box. perform a "Look Up" and display the appropriate information for the selected name. The second part should be very easy to someone here; please write codes, I have stuck in the second part for couple of hours.
I am try to edit the extended file properties of media files (specifically AVI)). Using code from [URL] I can successfully collect all of the properties in an avi file (35 of them), but I have not found how I can edit the exended properties. Using the simple the code below I would like to be able to update the "Comments" value in the avi properties to read "Hello world" (for example) and for this change to be written permanently to the avi.
Code below:
Public Shared Sub getMediaProperties() Dim arrHeaders(35) Dim shell As New Shell32.Shell
I have a new project , It has two forms, I want to edit the properties so that the second form is the startup form, however, when I go to project properties I see the everything in the application tab is dimmed.
I have a .aspx page that loads three separate .ascx controls to represent adding, editing and listing objects. It currently simply swaps out visibility and enables/disables the controls to switch between pages. However, when listing objects (in a gridview), we offer the basic "Edit" button beside each one. Clicking on this will, obviously, load up the edit control for that user. This functionality exists inside of the control, rather than the parent page. Is it possible to modify attributes for the parent based on events occurring in a child control? (For example, change the visibility and enable/disable the other children controls)
I am using VB2005 and trying to put an application together. What it needs to do is retrieve information from a binary file, possibly alter that information, and put it back into a new file. The file is a .wav file with data appened to the end. There is an additional section at the end of the .wav file which stores xml data.I have found that if I open this in a hex editor and make a 1:1 swap on any of the bytes that the application that the file is for can still read the XML.If I tried to add or remove characters from the XML then it would not read. I located a header byte and incremented it to resolve this.
This worked as an excellent bandage to do conversions where the data always needed to be changed to the same thing. What I have been asked to do is build logic that allows for different things to happen depending upon what data is contained within the file. The method that I am currently trying to impliment is:
Read through the file with a system.io.binaryreader
Searche for a bytestream that will signal data is coming
For example:
If System.IO.File.Exists("C: est estread.wav") Then Dim findit() As Integer = New Integer() {&H3C, &H55, &H73, &H72, &H44, &H65, &H66, &H30, &H31, &H30} Dim i As Integer[code].....
And then extract all the data till the end of element marker "<" It seemed like there should be a better way and I was looking for some insight. If I proceed with this method, I will have to read the file one time to gather the information and then a second time to write it all out with the header modified for length. This is my first experiene with working with binary files in this way. Also,I've been experiementing with building a string and slapping it back in at the end using the binarywriter.write(string) method.I noticed that it was putting in header characters before the string. These seem to change if I change the length of the string. At one point it was d0 07. Later it became e7 07. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this header from being inserted?
I tried a for each loop to grab all of the characters from the string, convert them to a byte array and deposit the byte array into the file, but the header remained the same. When I write the byte array generated from a system.io.binaryreader I do not get this header.
I have a form which is bound to a table that includes information about properties (real estate). Each property can have a number of inspections. These inspections are included in a separate table.
I want to use the form to show the property information and a data repeater to show all the inspections for that property.I can't seem to get the data repeater to bind to the inspection table and pull only those records related to the property information table. In fact, the data repeater shows nothing.
I can get a data repeater to show all the records in the inspection table when I put the control on its own form, for testing purposes.
I have created a class called Student, with five private variables: [code] My main form is divided into a number of different sub procedures. In one of them, I used a streamreader to take the first name, last name, and phone numbers of a list of records in a text file called PersonalInfo.txt. It seems to work just fine. [code] I have another, separate sub procedure in which I read a different text file containing the "averages" for the students. The first average from Averages.txt belongs with the first student in PersonalInfo.txt. The second average goes with the second student.. How do I add the student average information to the properties of the student records created in the previous sub procedure? [code] I realize why this wouldn't work, but I can't figure out how I could use my counter to reference a specific student.
ok i am working on a dvd ripper for my self i am trying to figure out the source code to rip a dvd i am also wanting to put a video converter in the dvd ripper
I'm sure a lot of people around here tried Rainmeter or Google desktop. They are nice but I never felt comfortable using them on my desktop, either because they ate too many space or aren't much flexible in terms of settings and stuff that can be grabbed from the Webs. So I thought I'd make my own personal tools. It's intended for Windows 7. What language, VB or C#, should be easier to implement this kind of stuff (small panels with no borders/frames, small memory usage if possible) based on experiences of people?
I have created an ASP.NET Website using VB.NET ASP.NET 4.0. Thing is, I want my visitors to hear some nice piano music as they browse my site. Now I don't know how to embed and play mp3s on an ASP.NET Website. So I need help with that.Further, if the website visitor changes pages, music should pick up where it left off before the page change. how to do this?
I coded a small application in VB Express 2010 and I wish any one could provide for me some code on how to save personal settings from an options form so that the end user don't have to keep making their personal choices every time that start my application that I created.
Personally I don't have a clue on how to accomplish this feature with in VB Express 2010.
I used check boxes and radio buttons in the options section on a form for the end users choices.
I am planning to write a recipe storage program for personal use. I know what I want to do, but I am not perfectly clear on the most efficient way to do it. I am using SQL server 2005 and I am comfortable writing stored procedures. This is one of my first vb.net projects and I am still getting comfortable with ADO.net.What I want to do is create a form that can handle an list of ingredients of an unknown number.
The form will also accept a cooking procedure of an unknown number of steps. Each step will be written by the user into Rich Text boxes (vb 6 term?)I am planning to use combo boxes to select ingredients from a list or add new ingredients as needed. I also want to eliminate duplicates in the ingredients table of the sql 2005 db. I am looking for the most efficient method to save all the parts of a recipe to the database. saving a recipe will require dozens of database hits and therefore be unacceptably slow.
I have a personal website that I want to see when the last post was made to it. Is there a way to find the last posted date on my blog?
In my application, I have a notification that I want to fire if we've made a 'News' post on our site so that our users are aware of any issues and I figured the best way would be to see when the last post was made.

I am looking for the best way to capture and validate US & international personal data. I have to use ASP.NET 2.0 (vb.net) and no 3rd party web services. This are all client restrictions.
The main point of this is I have to toss their data to FedEx for a shipping quote. I think FedEx has a address checker but that web service was not approved in the scope of the project and its too late to get it added.
My current solution is to just let the field be required and free form then before I save their profile check to see if FedEx will return a quote. If it fails then I will ask them to recheck their profile or contact the admin.
i have to send emails when a person recieves a personal message on my website and for that i use a StringBuilder to create the HTML markup of the email.also since it is required at many other places as well i have made a Shared Fucntion (i am using VB.NET). now my only concern is that since shared functions are shared among all objects and maybe asp.net sessions, can it be possible that before one person email is being formed and another person access the same function, it would cause the data in the stringbuilder to be overwritten. currently my site doesn't have many users but can this become an issue in the future...please advise me on this...is there any better way or standard procedure to follow when using shared functions.also at one time i made the mistake of using a shared connection object and it would cause close if many people were to access it
With my new user namewhen I press a custom tool button, I receive an error message saying that it can't find Personal.xls at the XLStart location under the old user name.Personal.xls from the new XLStart folder is properly open and hidden.
I am working on a small personal database management program and am at the stage where I am trying to search the MS Access database given a user input.I need to look up lets say the "customer" ID and the update other records associated with that customer. Here is what I have so far.
I have existing file named myapp.exe.config . What I would like to do is have a little app where user could specify path to app database. I know how to get file path but I dont know how to change existing line in myapp.exe.config file. No changes during runtime. Just simple app to change string in app.config file. I would like to enable user to select path to database and store that path in app.config file. Line which I would to change has a string "|DataDirectory|mydatabase.accdb" and i would like to change it with for ex. "C:Myappmydatabase.accdb" ( if it is selected file's path).
