Moving VBA Project Into Compiled Code?
Jun 9, 2011
i am a Microsoft Word developer and I sell Microsoft Office solutions, to companies. I am beginning to be concerned that my solutions are being copied - which is fairly easy.I am hoping someone can give me some advice about the best way to do this.I don't really have much of an understanding outside of Office VBA development - but have dabbled in .NET and VB in the past. Should I be buying Visual Studio - if so, does it matter if I buy Visual Studio 2008 or 2010 - I will initially need to convert some Word 2007. I have previously downloaded the .NET framework, and not sure how this relates to Visual Studio.

I have some code to execute code at runtime...
Here is the main
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Try
If TextBox1.Text.Trim <> "" Then
If TextBox2.Text.Trim <> "" Then
[code]....
When the button is pressed, it all works and the following files are created: yahoo.dll and yahoo.pdb My question is this: What is the code to load the already compiled yahoo files to execute the code again, without having to recompile the code?

I have a VB .dll from a previous developer that I need to modify. So I de-compiled it with no errors and then exported the code. I tried to compile the project and get two syntax errors:
New SqlDataAdapter(query, Me.connection).Fill(dataTable)
New SqlDataAdapter(DirectCast(command, SqlCommand)).Fill(dataTable)
The error message just says syntax error, nothing else.

I have been playing around with different types of native code operations in Visual Basic and then inspecting the code with Reflector to see what kind of MSIL is produced. For example, I wondered, in a one line If-Then-Else different than an If-Then-Else split onto multiple lines, ie.

I have completed a small VB console app to read data from a BT card scanner. From within the VS2010 developer the app runs as desired, capturing the data and displaying it on screen with console.writeline().When I compile and execute the code either from the debug bin version or the release bin version, the app only captures the first few bytes then closes. All the code is within the Module1 Sub Main. Is there a compile setting or other property that I need to adjust?

I've a requirement to have PreCompiled webpages and Non-PreCompiled webpages under same application. For example below is my structure:
/Bin
/Test1 (PreCompiled)
/Test2 (NonPreCompiled)
/Test3 (PreCompiled)
I would like these to have their separate "Bin" folders too if possible at all (I tried using "Probing" but I guess that's not allowed for web apps and defaults to "Bin" folder). If not that then definitely some ability for these to work together under one app/virtual directory because I'm not allowed to create another at any cost :(

is there anyway a compiled executable can be decompiled? in other words can its code be viewed? the reason why Im asking this if because I have a small project to do which for the most part is almost done, plus the instructor gave us the executable version of the application for us to test-drive, my application does everything but one thing. it is a small calculator application where there is a operator label that should display the arithmetic operator chosen by the user, per say I Im adding two number, there should be a box displaying the plus "+" sing or any other operator I pick, but I dont know how to get that done, so I would like to see the finished application code just to see how the coding should be done.

I am trying to create a application scripting environment for my VB .Net application. I have a form type in the application called Project. What I want to do is dynamically compile (i.e Eval) VB .Net code on a Project form. This dynamic code always has a Main function. One of the arguments to Main is a reference to the calling Project form. Here is the Eval code:
Public Function Eval(ByVal vbCode As String, ByRef MyAssembly As System.Reflection.Assembly, ByRef ProjectForm As Project) As ArrayList
Dim Provider As VBCodeProvider = CodeDomProvider.CreateProvider("VisualBasic")

Have been doing well moving a VB6 project to VB 2008.Here's another question.I am making an onscreen keyboard.I have my qwerty buttons handled by the same Event, as recommended to me by someone in these forums. It works great, and it was easy to set up.In my VB6 project, when I designed the "CAPS" button, all I had to do was this:
[Code]...
Can someone take a second and explain to me how this is accomplished in VB 2008? Do I have to physically type every button into an array and then do something like I did in VB6?

I have developing a program on one computer and when I try to move it to another computer running vb2008 express, I always get an error message saying "the project file (directory path, project name.vbjproj) has been moved, renamed or is not on your computer." The files etc. are in the same folders as other projects that run properly. Can't figure out how to correct the path etc. or figure out why the message as the files are where they should be.Cancel the question. I found my problem and it was me that caused it.

don't want to run into any problems. I just set up a 2nd PC and installed VB express 2008 on it.
If I want to move a project and all it's necessary files to the new PC, is it as simple as copying the project folder and then File > Open ?
If so, can't remember -- best choice is the project file or sln file?

Using Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008. I have students zip the folder for a vb project and send it to me. Then I unzip and add it to a project of mine. It will not open any of their work as the path has changed. I can't even see the code. If they send me the code only then I have to recreate the forms. They also have problems saving it on a jump drive, then moving that jump drive to a different computer as the drive letter changes. I have looked for help and it states to go to icons that I can't find in studio 2008. Using the open existing project gives the same result as the path has changed. Is it impossible to give someone else an existing project? I have gone in the import/export options but have run out of guesses.

I developed a project that uses Access 2003 db on my Vista 32 bit desktop. I recently bought a Vista 64 bit laptop and upgraded it to Windows 7.I installed Visual Studio on my laptop and Office 2003.I copied the project from my desktop to my laptop using the exact same paths. When I try to build the project on my laptop I get this error:"Unable to find manifest signing certificate in the certificate store"So, I tried creating a simple project using an Access 2003 DB and when I try to run it I get this error:"MicroSoft.JET.OLEDB.40" Not registered on this machine".I went to the "windowsSysWOW64" folder and ran "regsvr32 msjetoledb40.dll"and it ran successfully, but it didn't solve the problem. If I use the Server Explorer in the IDE, it displays the data.

This must be a common problem, so perhaps someone can point me to a Knowledgebase article. I've got a form that works fine in a completed project. It's a windows form that uses a dataset and tableadapter (which show in the tray below). Now I'm developing a different project that requires a very similar form. I want to "copy" that form into my new project, make some minor changes, and then save it under a new name.

I am having trouble opening my vb.net 2005 project from a backed up copy on a hard drive. The original files are on my old XP computer which I no longer have access to. I am trying to open the project in vb.net 2010 on Win7. I have converted the project to vb.net 2010 and when I open the file, nothing shows up, when I try to open them, it tells me the form isn't found in the project directory because it's been moved or deleted. I know that the software on the hard drive didn't back up .exe files, I'm not sure if it did back up other kinds of files. I don't want to restart the project because I've spent over a year on it and have written over 3000 lines of code on it.

In short my overall objective is to execute the external program which will open up the command prompt and use the sendkeys method to sendkeys to command prompt which help it to run a script at the correct time (which is after presentation is loaded).

In re-engineering a windows forms application, I find that a lot of code-behind in the various form classes is duplicative and I'm trying to centralize as many procedures as possible into a base class which can be inherited and used by the subclassed forms.
This process seems to be going well and is making the code in my subclasses much simpler and hopefully easier to maintain, but I'm not sure where to draw the line between leaving code in the subclasses and engineering for generic resusability and moving it to the base class.
Specifically, in some subclasses I have code which manipulates variables and objects specific to the subclass, and although I could move the code-behind into the base class, the base class code references specific objects which are needed to compile. For example, each subclass manipulates a databound datagridview and form detail controls which allows the user to select between multi-record and detailed single-record views of a datatable.
In Visual Basic 2008 do I need to declare dummy data objects in the base class so that the base class will compile? Or is there a way to indicate that the data objects will be provided by the subclass?
