I'm trying to concatenate two fields in LINQ so that I can then filter with a keyword. I found a question posted here that I thought was my answer, but I'm getting 0 records back for some reason. This is supposed to return a JSON result for an autocomplete textbox (it works when I don't concatenate fields).
in an sql table there's an id, first name and last name field. i'd like to concatenate the first and the last name fields and display it as one in a dropdown control.
this is the vb.net code:
con() sqry = "[SELECT QUERY]" sqcom = New SqlCommand(sqry, sqcon)
[Code]....
^this code displays only the first name. how do i go about concatenating in asp.net?
how do I search for records using keywords from a textbox in all fields within my table (within my database).I am only aware of filtering rows based on a single column value only
is there a way i can get my datatable to have multiple constraints that are attached to a unique id? an example of what i'm talking about is if i have a unique machine but it's on many lines, can i show that somehow in a datatable? the reason i'm asking is that i have code that sorts the data by line number and shows the relevant machines in a combo box based on the line selection out of another combo box. i'm having to input the data into the datatable (as a starting point for the data base) and it's very tedious. i'm entering machines that have the same name in multiple rows because the line number is different. i can't figure out how i can add multliple values into my line number column so that it will sort properly when queried.an example of what i'm asking with regard to the datatable is as follows:
Machine LineNumber slicer Line 1, Line 2, Line 4 conveyor belt Line 1, Line 6
So that when called to fill the combo box, the correct one is called. The code i'm using to sort right now is as follows:
Private Sub linecbo_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles linecbo.SelectedIndexChanged Dim cline As String
I have a dynamic query which returns a DataTable. This DataTable will contain a varying number of columns depending on the selection used in the query. I want an efficient way of filtering the records in the DataTable.
For Example The DataTable contains columns : A, B, C and D
I need to query this data at serveral points in my program. At some point I may need records where A=10 and C>40. At another point I may need records where A<10 and D=90 etc.etc. The selects are dymanmic, I do not now what Columns or values are needed until the code is executing.
I could simply use a DataTable Filter and build the selection string dynamically. I have no problem with this. However I was wondering if using LINQ would be more applicable. I am completely new to LINQ and would like to use it but don't know its capabilities.
(At present I am using a DataTable but in future this may change to a collection of Objects)
How can I use dynamic fields in LINQ in the PART OF THE where query? I mean that I want to write where x = *dynamic fields* I want to do the select query in all of the tables that are in the dataset, not on one datatable.
I have finished my database using Dreamweaver ASP VBScript and Access, the only thing left is to create the searching system. My search form works fine when posting just one filed. The results page Recordset goes as follows.
Code:
I need 7 different fields on my search form, this what I did but it doesn't work.
Parameters:
Name: MMColParam Type: Text Value: Request.Form("Ref") Default value: 1
Name: MMColParam Type: Text Value: Request.Form("New_resale") Default value: 1
"Price" is a special one because this is a list menu with different amounts, like 50.000, 70.000, 90.000, and so one. The idea is to make this list menu post to the result page, only to display records under or equal to the given value. less or equal > than 50.000 or 70.000, etc.
The LINQ VB code below is to read the first record data for database table ProductTable that has 3 colounms (or 3 fields):
TableCol1, TableCol2, TableCol3. The reading data is stored at variable MyArrayFirstRow. '-------start LINQ VB code in Visual Studio Web Developer 2008-------' Dim MyArrayFirstRow
My LINQ query contains the following Group By statement:
Group p By Key = New With { _ .Latitude = p.Address.GeoLocations.FirstOrDefault(Function(g) New String() {"ADDRESS", "POINT"}.Contains(g.Granularity)).Latitude, _ .Longitude = p.Address.GeoLocations.FirstOrDefault(Function(g) New String() {"ADDRESS", "POINT"}.Contains(g.Granularity)).Longitude}
The query works, but here is the SQL that the clause above produces
SELECT [t6].[Latitude] FROM ( SELECT TOP (1) [t5].[Latitude]
[Code]....
but this produced an error: "A group by expression can only contain non-constant scalars that are comparable by the server."
I'm trying to query old Access database tables and compare them with SQL Server tables. They often don't have primary keys, or they have extra fields that had some purpose in the nineties, etc., or the new tables have new fields, etc.I need to find records - based on a set of fields specified at runtime - that are in one table but not another. So, I do this kind of query all the time in SQL, when I'm comparing data in different tables:
dim fields_i_care_about as string = "field1, field2, field3" 'This kind of thing gets set by a caller, can be any number of fields, depends on the 'table dim s as string= ""
[code]....
It tells me it can't convert a Boolean - Is there any way to do this without Linq expressions? They seem far more complex than what I'm trying to do here, and they take a lot of code, and also I can't seem to find examples of Expressions where we're comparing two fields in a subquery. Is there a simpler way? I know I could do the usual EXISTS query using JOIN or IN - in this case I don't need the query to be super fast or anything. And I don't need to use a DataTable or DataSet - I can put the data in some other kind of object.
I am trying to make a simple search method using sql to linq in visual studio. In my database, i have the fields "Firstname" and "Lastname", and my search string is "name". How can i make a simple linq query which searches both fields?
in plain SQL i would do something like this: "SELECT (Firstname + Lastname) as 'Fullname' FROM table WHERE Fullname LIKE '%searchstring%'
Is it possible with LINQ to SQL to search the entire database (obviously only the parts that are mapped in the .dbml file) for a string match? I'm trying to write a function that will take a string of "Search Term" and search all mapped entities and return a List(Of Object) that can contain a mixture of entities i.e. if I have a table "Foo" and table "Bar" and search for "wibble", if there is a row in "Foo" and one in "Bar" that contain "wibble" i would like to return a List(Of Object) that contains a "Foo" object and a "Bar" object.
Just when I was thinking that I had Linq To Xml sussed I'm faced with yet another error! I think if I was to understand the linq search process in general better I might have more success, so any good links regarding that are also welcome. To my problem however; using the code below:
I am trying to query from search box using list of data and the linq I used is:data = (From k As BSPLib.ContactLib.Contact In data_org.Values Where k.stringdata Like "%" & Searchtxtbox.Text & "%" Select k.prime).ToListBut this is not working, I am getting no data at all. Data_org is a dictionary so I used the values; k.stringdata contains all the data that need to be searched. Searchtxtbox.text contains the user defined search item.I Tried with sqlmethods through linq, but sqlmethods does not exist for me, I tried with with Imported namespace yet the code is not showing sql methods, could you please provide a workable query or just tell me where I have gone wron
So far I don't got problems searching elements for example , the next block of code will load the xml file and then will search descendants ("recordinfomation") which is a parent element in the XML file and returns child elements ("title", "aut_FirstName, "aut_LastName, and "xmllink") . My question is I would like to start my search at the root of the xml file and search all parent elements and not a specific one and return what I am returning in the following code. In another words search the whole document for specific child elements.
Dim XDoc As XElement = XElement.Load(MapPath("App_DataBookstore.xml")) Dim elements = From row In XDoc.Descendants("recordinformtion") _ Where Regex.IsMatch(row.Element("title").Value, strfirstterm,
I have a VB.NET search routine, part of which is provided, below, that checks all Text cells in a DataGridView for a given string (inclusive), using a basic set of nested loops to perform the search:
' Search for the first occurrence of the given string For Each row As DataGridViewRow In dgvMembers.Rows ' Skip the new row
[Code].....
is there a way to replicate this behavior using LINQ? Basically I would like the query to select (or return) the first DataGridViewCell whose text contains the search string. I've done some tinkering with sub-queries and the like, but I'm still having trouble wrapping my brain around the concepts (too many years of writing T-SQL, I guess).
Is there a way to check if a column contains all or any of an items in a list? Example "ABCDEFG" is my column value. "A" "C" "L" is my list stored in a list. I need to find rows that contains at least one item in my list. Then items that contains ALL the items in my list (a basic OR / AND search such as a SE would have)
i have gridview 1 and textbox1 and button1 i want when pages load the gridview displays the all records from table1 and also ...i i wanna search record for firstname by typing sumit in textbox1 and click on button1 then in gridview the record of sumit will be shown ..by default gridview display alll records from table1 How to do this My Selct Query is below : but it doesnot display all record ...but it can display record if you search for a particular record .
I am creating a mediaplayer / playlist creator tool that basically imports MP3 songs into playlists (grids). I'm looking to add search functionality where the user can search all open playlists (or a subset of the open playlists). A Playlist is basically a collection of AudioFiles, where an AudioFile is a class that holds the filename of the MP3 file and then exposes the tags (Title, Artist, Album, etc) in public properties.
The idea is that the user can search for a certain expression (for example "the"), and that he can then choose whether to search in the title, in the title and artist, in the title or artist, in the title, artist and/or album, etc. However, I'm having a hard time implementing this and also having it kind of dynamic.
At the moment I am simply gathering all the AudioFiles from the open playlists (or from the subset of playlists the user chooses) and then running a simple LINQ query to find those AudioFiles where the Title contains the search text. Then I display the resulting AudioFiles in a new playlist window:
[Code]....
In case the AND / OR distinguishing is too hard, I would be happy to start with just letting it default to 'OR', so that the user can check Title and Album for example. If he would then search for 'a' then all songs that contain 'a' in their title as well as all songs that contain 'a' in their album should be returned. I guess that makes it easier, but I still wouldn't know how to dynamically create the LINQ query.
I'm currently refactoring an old Visual Basic DLL (VB.Net), which stores all of its data in one module called Globaldefinitions as public fields. There are about 200 fields, referenced thousands of times all around the code:
Public Module Globaldefinitons Public a As Short ... Public zz10 As Double
[Code]...
I need to change the module into a class with non-shared fields. This means, each and every of these thousands of references needs to reference the instance of that class:
globalDefinitionsInstance.a = 5
How do I go about this efficiently?
Regular expressions operating on the source fall flat. Refactoring tools like Re-Sharper or CodeRush don't seem to offer this functionality. Visual Studio 2010 cannot do it automatically either.
Class Foo ReadOnly name As String Public Sub New(name As String, dependentUpon As Foo) Me.name = name
[code]....
The output of New Bar() is:
Dependent created. Dependent upon nothing. Independent created. Dependent upon nothing.
It seems fields are initialized in the same order as they appear in the source code, which (a) leads to an unexpected result, and (b) seems a little puzzling, given that one is normally not permitted to read from uninitialized variables in .NET, yet that seems to be working fine above.I would've expected VB.NET to be smart enough to initialize referenced fields first, and only then those that reference it; i.e. I'd have liked to see this output instead:
Independent created. Dependent upon nothing. Dependent created. Dependent upon Independent.
how to get VB.NET to behave like that instead, without simply having to swap the declaration order of dependent and independent inside class Bar?
I'm trying to create a table in Word using data from a table in Access. There are four fields in the access table that I need. 3 fields are text which I can populate the Word without any issues. However the fourth field is a memo with >255 characters.I'm struggling to come up with the proper code to allow me to populate the Word field with the memo data that has more than 255 characters. The code I have so far is listed below. But when it hits the memo field, it crashes on the line I marked with **. I know it's not text, but I've tried many different field types, but nothing has worked so far.[code]...
My intent is to have the code - on a button.click event - check the Username and Password fields and return an error depending on which is wrong. Or if both are wrong, return a different error message. I've set the username as parts and the password as parts (still learning how to use external authentication). [Code]
I have several sqldatasources for my gridview. All of the columns are autogenerated. However they all have some consistent fields and I'd like to make those fields template fields so I can modify the edit template for them such as adding a drop down menu. Is this possible?
