I have an xml file stored on an web server and I need to read the data using vb.net for a smart device application.I also need the ability to select indvidual nodes of the xml file. It currently a simple file but will be expanded upon. [code] I need to access the name node to start with.

(i didnt write any code additional to template generated by vs2008 ) i tried to debug it with F11 hit(step into) ; vstudio asks me to locate a source file named 17d14f5c-a337-4978-8281-53493378c1071.vb. i dont know what this file is; same problem does not occur if i choose C# project.

View 3 RepliesI am developing an application to run on a PDA. The PDA is running on Windows CE 5.0 and has a barcode scanner integrated. I am using Framework 3.5 VB.Net 2008 smart device project to develop my application. Now, my question is about opening the barcode scanner to read scanned barcodes into my PDA application. I used system.io.ports to open COM1, 2, 3 and I can get them opened but obviously none of theses ports opens up the scanner.Any idea how to open/communicate with the PDA scanner?

View 1 RepliesI am trying to read data from an external device using MSComm control but the problem is I am getting wrong data. I am recieving 1 byte data but the first three bits are wrong so anything greater than 31 sent from the external devices is recieved wrongly. eg. if I am sending 63(111111) from the device then the input from MSComm control gives me 159(10011111).Due to this reason I tried SerialPort from .Net framework and was surprised to see that it is working properly.

View 3 RepliesI'm planning on using the Smart Device Framework 2.3 to use the signature control panel in a Windows Mobile 5 application using the compact framework 3.5.
The control has the option to save the signature as either a byte array of points, or as a bitmap. Now seeing as I want to store the signature in a sql compact database, I guess the byte array is going to be better. The trouble is, I'm not sure how to render that in a full WinForms application after I've transferred it back to the desktop.
I need to show the signature on a report, so it would need to be an image I could link/embed into the report.

The two I've used with the most success are: 1. xPDF. This includes an executable, PDF2TEXT.exe, which takes an argument that is the path to the PDF file to "read" and a second argument which is the name of the text file where it will write the output. This works well and fairly quickly, but it's external to my application and calling it via a Process.Start() command raises security considerations and requires to user to allow the external executable to run. They must allow this to happen AT LEAST every time they run the import application (IF they will check the "Don't keep bothering me about this" box).
2. A solution from Foxit, which is GREAT, but costs a good bit of money to use. Does anyone have a solution that I can implement IN MY CODE (like #2) but that's free (like #1)?
