View 22 RepliesI have a project that I have created, it something like a contact database. It is complete with its own sql server database, and controls and forms.I kinda of understand that I can include this project into another project. This is the tricky part,Can I include my contact project into another project and add more items to the database and forms in a new project? What I'm after is like using classes. My contact database would be like the base class, and the new project would be adding more features to that project.
View 10 RepliesI have 2 projects, one built in VB.NET and another in C#.NET. I want to use certain functionality of VB.NET into C#.NET and hence I have added the dll file of VB.NET solution into C#.NET as a reference by browsing the dll from my system. Say dll name for VB.NET is myData.dll. In my C#.NET project I am trying to declare it as a namespace i.e. "using myData;" and its giving me an error of "Type or namespace name could not be found"

I have a IF statement which is checking each row in the data table (for a match) and ELSE statement with commands which are executed if the If statement is not satisfied. Now I would like to write like so that it goes to the Else part BUT ONLY for values which are not satisfied in the IF statement. If I am more specific; I would like to calculate values if a match is found and just print them if it is not fond (usually there are both cases). Now the problem is the text that is marked red; if there is a match found I don't want it processed BUT if the match is found I do. How can I write that?

I'm trying to find out how to ensure a font is found by a project.I would expect to be able to add it (Them) to the recourses but can't find how to do that. When I get to 'Add item' I've tried 'New' and 'Existing' but can't find a template for fonts, so I'm lost (again).
View 3 RepliesI have following code somewhere in my VB.NET 2008 program to create an array of files found in a folder:
Dim objFolder As New IO.DirectoryInfo(strXMLImportPath)
Dim arrXMLFiles2Import As IO.FileInfo() = objFolder.GetFiles("*.xml")
...
UpdateFileQ(arrXMLFiles2Import)
[Code] .....
When setting "option strict" to on, I'm getting following error on the line:
lbFileQ.Items.AddRange(dirlist)
Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'AddRange' can be called with these arguments:
'Public Sub AddRange(items() As Object)': Option Strict On disallows implicit conversions from 'System.Array' to '1-dimensional array of Object'.
'Public Sub AddRange(value As System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.ObjectCollection)': Value of type 'System.Array' cannot be converted to 'System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.ObjectCollection'.
Although everything works fine with option strict set to off, I'd like to correct this problem. Also note that array "arrXMLFiles2Import" is used later on in the program, so I can't change anything on that.
Everything was fine but suddenly appeared this error when I built a project.

If I change the following line as shown, it works OK:
Code: Dim oMessage As Object
Is this the best way to get it to work or what should I specifically define the variable oMessage as?

View 13 RepliesI've started to use a Vista machine for development. In case it is significant: I'm using MSBee so that I can code in the Visual Studio 2005 IDE while still building against the 1.1 framework. On the Vista machine, when I tried to build a particular vb project, I got this error:
error BC30464: Namespace or type'Compatibility' in the project-level Imports 'Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility' cannot be found.
The same project built fine on my old XP machine. I checked in this folder on my Vista machine:
C:windowsmicrosoft.netFrameworkv1.1.4322
...and sure enough, "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll" was missing. So was "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.Data.dll". Copying them from my XP machine to my Vista machine allowed me to build the project successfully.I'm just a bit puzzled as to why this happened. Why was "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll" missing? I'm also not very comfortable with my chosen solution - copying the DLL manually. It works, but surely there must be a better way.
As far as the configuration:
Vista:
.Net Framework 1.1
.Net Framework 1.1 SP1
.Net Framework 1.1 SDK

I have a pretty large project built in vb.net under VS 2008. This project is heavy using SQL.
There is one part of the project, that I need to make a smaller project. So I am taking 6 forms out of 23 and adding them into this new project. Instead of adding the data set, I built a new one. With a different name. But it's connect to the same database.
First of all, is this a good way to make a sub-project, or is there a better way.
Secondly, I am running into a problem where my table adapters are not members of dataset. I get this error in the design code. I know it's not a good idea to manually change this code.
I have to create an application that will dynamically add a menu strip with menu items to a form(ie NOT dragged and dropped onto the form) in Visual Basic. The menu strip should be created in the Form_Load event handler. I have to use a TextBox for user input. If the user enters information into the TextBox and clicks on the Add Button, the text should be added to a ComboBox control.A Menu should then be created that must be added to the menu strip dynamically.

I've been assigned to start a new Logging Project from zero in VB.NET.The final exit of the main project is information organized in paragraphs like this:
[code]...
Every paragraph correspond to a database connection. Every connection is made with an entire diferent database.i need my logging project to save everything the user does, so the logging exit would be like the system exit but with exceptions and other important information like this: Paragraph's title 1 Paragraph's content 1.Paragraph's title 2 User wasn't able to see this information because an exception ocurred: System.WhateverException:couldn't connect to WCF.as you can see the exit is the same but i need to create a detail log because the information is delicate and the DBA needs to now wich user did what and what was the response of the system. Also i need it to be and independant project so i can re-use it in another projects. Seeing the final exit of both the main project and the logging project, what would you recommend me to use for logging in .NET?
i'm currently working on building a program that will take a MS Access database system produced by my company and create a VB.Net project with all the forms in it (obviously the code should be manually done, but to save time the forms and controls can be produced automatically).I have tried Googling and seem not to be able to find anything about this (which probably means I wasn't searching with the right keywords), I was wondering whether anyone knows any good resources on how to create the VB.Net project programmatically as I already know how to do all the access stuff.
