Open Network Properties UI From VB?

Aug 25, 2009

I am developing a new shell for a windows project using VB2008.

I would like to open the network IP properties for the Local Area Connection, in order for the user to change the IP address for the computer.

I have done some research, but can't find any way of doing this through Process.Start("RunDll32.exe", "shell32.dll,....... like I have done with the other items I needed from the control panel, and the information I do find tells me to use the INetCfgComponent::RaisePropertyUi.

Unfortunatly I have no idea in how to use this function from within VB....

I currently have

Dim attachedFilePath As String = "\myservermyshare est.txt"
File.Open(attachedFilePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read)

VS 2008 Network App - Send Message Or Network Package To Some Of The Clients In The Network

Aug 18, 2009

Here is my idea so far: I have a bunch of computers connected in a local network. One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. I'll give you a simple example:

Open File Dialog Not Showing Network Locations

Jun 3, 2009

I am doing setup project in VS 2008. I used custom action to select file from local drives. On the button click of custom action form, I am launching Open file dialog as ofdGetNetPath.ShowDialog When I run the setup on Vista, and click the button to open the openFileDialog, it hanged, form becomes non responsive and I have to cancel the setup.

on debugging I got following error "Current thread must be set to single thread apartment (STA) mode before OLE calls can be made. Ensure that your main function has STAThreadAttribute marked in it. This exception is only raised if a debugger is attached to the process."

so I used the following code:

Dim ofdThread As Thread ofdThread = New Thread(New ThreadStart(AddressOf ShowOpenFileDialog)) ofdThread.SetApartmentState(ApartmentState.STA) ofdThread.Start() Private Sub ShowOpenFileDialog() Me.ofdGetNetPath.ShowDialog() End Sub

now on button click, OpenFileDialog is shown but it is not showing Mapped drive or Network location... what should I need to do to show the mapped drive or network locations?

Get Windows To Open The Credentials Dialog - Network Folder Security

Jun 2, 2009

I have a treeview control which is being used to browse various folder on the users system drive. It can also be set up to connect network folders using UNC paths e.g "serverfiles". At the moment I'm getting a list of Directories by using My.Computer.FileSystem.GetDirectories however this obviously fails when the folder is password protected.

Is there a way that I can get Windows to open the credentials dialog as you would see in Windows Explorer and deal with the credentials side so then the user name & password is cached as well?

Your Network Access Was Interrupted - To Continue Close The Database And Then Open It Again

Nov 23, 2009

I have an access 2007 database that I have been developing a front end for in vb.NET for the past 3-4 weeks using vs2008 in a Windows 7 enviroment. Yesterday I started getting an error of "Your network access was interrupted. To continue close the database and then open it again." This happens in the Form Load on the line:

gotData = Me.LeaguesTableAdapter.Fill(Me.LeaguesSeasonsPlayersDataSet.Leagues)

I can go into access 2007 and view all the data fine and in vs2008 I can view the server explorer and browse the tables. However, under data sources if I try and preview the data, I get the same error message as before. What confuses me the most is that the database is not stored on a server is just stored in My Documents. It was origionally stored on my desktop pc but has been copied to the My Documents on my laptop. But as I mentioned previously it has been working fine and has just all of a sudden started throwing this exception by my Try Catch routine. FYI I have tried creating a new DB and importing the tables from the old DB but this hasn't solved the problem either.

2003 - Program Running Under Alternate Credentials - Option To Open A UNC Path To A Network Share

Sep 8, 2010

I have a program written in VB.net 2003 that are folks run under alternate credentials. Inside the app there is an option to open a UNC path to a network share. We were running Windows XP SP3 and IE6. The code is simple just a call to the explorer.exe with /root,\UNCPath. After installing IE 8 onto the machine this no longer works. Best I can tell the code is still working but now being executed in non interactive mode so nothing opens up. You can however see a new spawned explorer.exe running under the system account for each attempt at opening a UNC Path. Any ideas what IE8 could have done to cause this behavior?

User Control Properties - Finalize My Design Time Properties Grid

Apr 27, 2011

I'm making a control and I am trying to finalize my design time properties grid. I have several List(of Class) items as public properties and when I click on the design time menu (while testing the control) there is the word "Collection" and a button with an ellipsis (...) that brings up a neat pop up with the buttons Add/remove and all of the public properties of the collection's class on the right hand side. Basically for a non-collection instance of a class (with public properties) I'd like a similar button to show up. I know I could put all of the properties in the main control class and group them, but I like the pop up box feature. Anyway to duplicate this? (think font grid item etc.)

VS 2010 Express - PictureBox Design Properties Box Shows Properties That Cannot Be Accessed?

Mar 5, 2012

In the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like

Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.

1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?

2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?

.net - Using A FileStream On A Network When The Network Drops?

Mar 26, 2012

I am writing some code as part of a framework for opening a file. The file is of custom type and should not be opened by more than one instance of my application. To stop multiple file opening I use a filestream to create a lock file and then keep said filestream open. This seems to work in preventing another instance of my application from opening the file ( as it will fail in recreating the lock stream in the files open code ) but if the file is on a network share and the network drops then the original application also can not access the file any more. The code to get the lock stream is as follows:

Try
' We need to keep this stream alive to prevent other applications gaining access to the lock
mLockStream = New FileStream(mLockPath, FileMode.CreateNew, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.None)[code]....

In this I create the lock stream the first time round and then if another application tries to create it, it throws an exception and stops them from getting any further. This is kind of how it needs to work, unfortunately as I said, if this is done across a network and then the network connection is dropped for some reason then I can not delete the lock stream as I get an IOException telling me a process cannot access the file as it is open in another process ( which shouldn't be happening I don't think).

Set The Transparent Property Via Label Properties Properties Not Via Code?

Jan 16, 2009

I'm working on a Hazardous Materials label printing program. One of the options is to do an "NFPA" label. Since there are 4 values required with 4 or 6 options, the ratings are entered via radio buttons in a group box. That's working okay. I display values in the NFPA diamond as they're entered: left quadrant blue, top quadrant red, left yellow, bottom red. I'm having trouble with the label in which the rating will be displayed on top of a jpg diamond for the white. In this quadrant the text can be up to 4 characters. I can accept the text going into an adjacent block a little, but the corners of the label overlap into another quadrant/color. I reduced the font size which solved the overlap problem but the font is then too small and looks terrible. I tried to make the background of the label transparent to let the color come through correctly but that's not a valid value for label.background. I'm figuring that the transparent background is the best solution. What can I use that will accept a transparent background so the color shows through?

I'm trying to set the transparent property via label properties properties, not via code. Here's the code if it makes any difference:

Public Class NFPA
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Close()
End Sub

Using AutoMapper To Map DAL Properties To BLL Properties?

Oct 8, 2009

I have a BLL class which contains properties for the fields in a Country table (CountryCode, CountryName, etc). It also has a property ioDAL, which is a reference to a DAL class (created with SubSonic 2.2), which has same named fields.

I have a LoadRecord() method which calls the DAL's FetchById() method that populates the DAL properties by calling the database (SQL Server 2005 FWIW).What I then want to do, rather than writing code to populate each BLL property from its DAL equivalent, is to use AutoMapper (from CodePlex). I think the line should be something like

Mapper.CreateMap(ioDAL, Me)()but this gives errors "Value of type (DAL class / namespace naming) cannot be converted to 'System.Type'" and "Value of type (BLL class / namespace naming) cannot be converted to 'System.Type'".
