I'm opening a form like a "popup" as in an alarm clock.The problem is: I don't know if a modal form is open at this moment, and the popup form needs to be a modal (I think but not sure), so I have a potential (and not so potential) crash.

I have 3 comboBoxes on the form named day month year. when the user enters the correct date ( Current date) and click the button the alarm is deactivated. the code to check that the date entered in the comboBoxes is the current date.

When I that line of code it runs, but when the alarm goes off there is no sound. And having a alarm clock go off with no sound is not going to get one up. I do have wmp com control on the form.
I am new to VB coding so I'm trying some easy projects.I figured an alarm clock would be a good place to start. But I'm Having a hard time with the MP3 Part of it all.I want a pre-selected MP3 to start, when my timer2 is = to the time of day.But i Have never really used MP3's in any project. View 5 RepliesI would like to make an alarm clock application, however I am having some problems in the brainstorming phase.
My main problem is the fact that I dont know how to ensure the application will be able to calculate the time and thus set off the alarm. For example, when the application is closed, how will the alarm go off?
Ideally I would like to make this app a system startup item, so if the system is rebooted, the application will automatically relaunch - but again, I dont know how to do that.
If the system is sleeping, how can I wake it up? These kind of problems.
Another dilema I have, is if this application is always running, how could I have it go to my taskbar hidden icon menu (the right section of the taskbar next to the time).
I'm making an alarm clock whose form's backColor should change randomlly every 5 seconds. I am not sure as to how to do this. I'm using a timer so after the alarm clock's given time matches the current time, a song will be played. But I do not know how to count the seconds, or milliseconds that pass after starting time.

View 3 RepliesI'm a totally newb to VB and I want to do this. I want to do display system clock into a textbox. The trick is that I want it to be synchronized with the Windows XP clock. I want to have something like +/- 100 ms accuracy.
Each 'second' change will trigger an output pin to ground into the parallel port. This is very important that the 'second' change in the same time the Windows XP second change. Do not care about the parallel output thing, I'm nearly there. My main concern is the synchronisation with Windows clock.
In my code, I've added a counter that increment +1 at each 'second' change. So, when the 'n' value will reach a determined value, it will trigger another event.

Whn the form loads I get the data from the db and bind to the combobox. that works fine and here is the code I use in form load to cause this to happen: [code] Now if there is not an Account Type, I have a button that will pull up a small form to allow the addition of an account type. The popup form adds the data back to the database just fine, but I am now trying to get the combobox to refresh its data. So I call a public Sub that is located in the parent form to from the popup form to accomplish this task and I have walked the code and the sub is called and appears to work correctly, but the new data never appears in the combobox. Here is my public sub that i call to try and refresh the combobox on the parent form. [code] But when I go back to the parent form, the combobox is not updated with the new account. How can i get the combobox to refresh from the database with the new data?

It's an appointment scheduler with a calendar layout. You double click a time slot, window pops open for info, then you click save and it saves/updates. Based on which doctor you select from a drop down list, only their patients will show and any appointments you add will be assigned to that doctor. I got that working.Then I wanted to see if I could use a custom form rather than the default popup form, so just as a test, I threw some textboxes on the main form to see if I could get the data from them. Those worked too.Now, when I try adding a new form that will pop up with those same textboxes on it, I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". Here is my code:

That's in the save button routine. I was getting this error at every TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet line, and for some reason VS has about 6 different numbered versions of this. I don't know why there are so many, but I think that may be why it's screwing up. I got rid of all but one of those errors by trying each numbered version of the data set until the error went away, but now I can't get the last one away. I commented in the code above where the error occurs.
I would like to have my messageboxes popup in the center of the parent form. When I resize and move the parent form the popup messageboxes open center screen. I have tryed searching for an answer but have come up empty. I am programming VB 2008.
View 4 RepliesAfter a little research, I managed to get a working Help button added to my form. I did this by setting the MinimizeBox and MaximizeBox properties of the form to false, set the ShowHelp property of the form to true and added a HelpProvider component. I then added a string to each control's HelpString property that I want to display help on.
Everything works with one minor exception. When I clcik the help button in the form and then select a control, the HelpString (tooltip) is displayed in the far lower left corner of the screen. I assumed I would see this pop up at the cursor rather than where it is. I cannot seem to find a property to control the position of the HelpString popup.
Is there a better way to make a form with multiple buttons opening different things than having a form that has lots group boxes for each tab. So in the begining each box will be invisible and when you click the button the corresponding group box will become visible. Is there any other way?It will be like a background image and it'll have buttons that will mask it with invisible buttons. when the button is clicked it will open the corresponding group box.

I am developing web application in which I used repeater to create a grid and I bind a link for edit page when user clicks on that link then ID of that specific record passed to that page and all relevant information extracted from database for that ID and displayed in text boxes. If there are other windows opened on the desktop, for example windows explorer, then when the popup form is closed, the main form gets hidden behind windows explorer. You have to move windows explorer out of the way to get to the main form. Is there a way to keep this from happening?

This is being called on button click when the user has finished selecting from the Checkboxlist.
When the parent page is shown again though the textbox is empty.
The scenario of my user control is that a user is to select from a checkbox list which is a list of emails.
When done has been clicked then it is required that the selected emails be forwarded to the parent webpage.
Then the To Textbox in this case will be filled with the emails that the user has selected.
