Picture Is Downloaded Into Picturebox - Not Able To Refresh Picture
Sep 22, 2011I have an app that downloads a picture into a picture box. The picture changes on the web page but not in the picturebox.
How can I refresh the picture box with something like this?

Nov 9, 2011I am using VB.net in VS2008.I wrote a screensaver that cycles through pictures. When the screensaver exits it sets the desktop background to the last picture loaded using API call SystemParametersInfo(SPI_SETDESKWALLPAPER, 0, sFilePath, SPIF_UPDATEINIFILE Or SPIF_SENDWININICHANGE).The desktop wallpaper refreshes for WinXP and Vista but not Win7.In Win7, if I run the screensaver as an EXE then the desktop background changes when the program ends. If I run it as a screensaver I need click on the desktop and press F5 before the desktop shows the new desktop background (or click and drag with the mouse to show pieces of the new desktop background).I have tried to add delays and even force a refresh by using SHChangeNotify(SHCNE_ASSOCCHANGED, SHCNF_IDLIST, Nothing, Nothing) but with no success.

Jun 21, 2010I have a splash screen and want to test the loading bar. The % of loading are in 11 stages (0-100% in 10% intervals) and I have 11 different images. What i'm trying to do is set my picturebox.image = to the resource image and then wait 1 second then set picturebox.image to the next resource image. What i was doing is on the SplashScreen.Show method [Code]. What happens is that the picture box doesn't refresh with the image until the last image has been loaded from the procedure and the end of making the thread sleep completes. (this worked fine in VS2005). How can I make it load up the image, redraw the picturebox and then make the thread sleep for 1 second in VS2008.

Jun 16, 2009I have some text boxes in my form that takes data and saves the data to the database. There is a combo box at the bottom of the page that loads data from a specific field of a database. when I enter and save the new data (using the textboxes), the combobox doesn't show the newly entered data. I tried to refresh the combobox using code like combobox.refresh, me.refresh etc, to refresh the form but nothing is working the combobox only display the new data when I close the form and reload the form again. anyway, the data loading in the combobox is done using datasource, displaymember, valuemember in the properties. So, how can I make the combobox show the just added record (field)?

VS 2005 Refresh Open Form
Jan 14, 2011I have a form that remains open while running an application. The user can open multiple instances of a form to edit customer information. After editing and exiting an instance of the Customer form I want the form with the buttons to refresh and show the changes. Basically the form show the availability of storage units, green rented, yellow available and red is late payment. Right now I am acheiving this by closing and opening the button form when I exit the Customer form. This works but there must be a better way to do this.

May 25, 2009i'm working on a desktop application in vb.net, using vs 2005 and mssql 2005. i want to refresh the pages everytime i insert a record, but i only succeeded by having a load button where user has to click everytime they add a record to view the new record. Is there any way(s) to auto refresh those pages?

Dec 15, 2010I am making a game based on "Simon" where the computer creates a sequence and the user then has to then replicate it. To create and show the sequence I am generating random numbers between 1 and 4 then based on what numbers come out I change the image in a picture box to simulate coloured squares lighting up. The problem however that I think I am having is that the loop I made is executing too fast as all I see when I run the program is the last light in the sequence. For example is the sequence generated was 2341 all I see light up is square 1. I have stepped into the program and it goes through everything correctly so the only thing I can think of is that it runs too fast to see? [code]

Jun 15, 2012Environment = VB.NET 2005 & Pervasive SQL 9.5 ADO.NET In a simplified example, I have single database table (customers) with the columns "customer_code_PK" and "customer_name" This table is presented in VB.NET 2005 as a single form datagrid (bindingsource/dataset). In this example, the database table is populated with the following data
customer_code_PK customer_name

In very simplified terms, code does the following;
sub on form load
fill dataset with database records (select * from customers)

The datagridview loads the records correctly.Here is the sequence of operations that produces the bizzar behaviour.In the editable datagrid;
1.remove the row with PK = MOB -> save_button -> Database correctly updates
2.add a new row with PK = KFC -> save_button -> Database correctly updates
3.remove row with PK = SHELL -> save_button -> Database exception occurs
On this last command, the row SHELL is INSERTED!!, not removed.However, If I change ths save_button routine to this

It works correctly !Is it correct that you would need to "refresh" the sql update commands after every tableadapter.update?

Aug 20, 2011I have VS 2008 and use VB, not C#/C++ or whatever else. I'm trying to make a battleship game, and I've decided to use the only method I can think of to control the grid. A 2D boolean array for position marking. I have the array set up, and the grid set up in the design form, but I can't figure out with all my research how to link them together. I'm writing this program to shake off the rust before school starts again, and for fun. I took VB in school last year, a half year class, so I have a foundation, now I'm self-educating myself above and beyond the class. I've searched for a way to use a picture box array to use the coordinates of the ship to .Visible=True the picture boxes. I've been working on this for 2 days straight with no results. I just need a little nudge in the right direction. The exception I've been getting with my latest concoction of code is NullReferenceException was Unhandled. I think its referring to the fact that I have no idea how to link the picture boxes into the array. Here's my code, and I'll comment where the exception is thrown:
