Pop3 - Check Email Using Application?
Jan 26, 2011I am looking for a vb.net code for receiving e-mails without using any 3rd party libraries. I want to check Unread messages, Inbox and Sent messages. A Working sample is needed.
What is the default port for SMTP , is it port 25 (is it the same for all SMTP mail servers?). Which is more flexible in my case POP3 or IMAP ?

I'm trying to automate the process end-to-end, but it currently depends on someone opening an email, saving the attachment to a server share, so the application can use the file.Since I cannot convince the vendor to change their process, such as offering an FTP location or a Web Service, I'm stuck with trying to automate the existing process.

May 30, 2010how to setup POP3 access that DOES NOT cost money! I have a program that needs to receive email.I have looked ALL over the internet for examples and have come up with NOTHING! Maybe it's about time we all pull together and finally put a solution out here for how to do it. I know it's not THAT complicated because I am a novice as is my roommate and we had an email program about 4 years ago and it wasn't that complicated then, so I don't imagine it is, however, I did not save that email program that we built so I can not refer to the coding again!

Apr 3, 2012I was recently working on a project that involving connection to a POP3 Server. I was using this piece of C# from CodeProject[URL] had complied it into a DLL and was using it in VB.NET.I'd connected to my Hotmail Account (not many mails) and it seems to work just fine. After that, I connected to my GMail account... I stared seeing errors!POP3 is meant to fetch emails only from the Inbox. Even when I made my own program to cross-check the problem, I saw that when I requested for the number of messages, the GMail POP3 Server returned a value which is about 5 times less than the actual inbox size.
255 Emails in my Inbox?? Online it shows me 2,414 emails in my Inbox.And secondly, my MAIN QUESTION is that how does one fetch the LATEST email from the POP3 Mailbox. What I've fetched here was an e-mail with ID 1! I want to fetch the top 20 emails (that were most recently delivered to the account)...Is there any work around for how to fetch the LATEST email from the POP3 Server rather than the oldest emails? I've also tried to connect to the Hotmail POP3 Mail Server. Again a "RETR 1" command fetches me the oldest email and not the latest one!

Aug 11, 2010i'm tying to send email in my application directly by the smtp server but the server doesn't allow me to do that.The application its used by everyone in the company, so i set the smtp client UseDefaultCredentials to True, but the server replies with this when i try to send an email:[code].....If i set the credentials by hand, the server sends the email. So my problem is how to make this work to everyone? I don't want to have one public/friend var all time in the application with the credentials of the current user?

Nov 4, 2011I'm trying to send a simple email via vb.net. This is the first time i've tried this and am getting the same message every time. I've looked everywhere with no answer... The host that i use is bluehost, and i know the port name and the client name and username and password are correct. So i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong, perhaps it's thinking i should be sending from my localhost, or my ip address? Either way, below is the error i'm getting, and the code. Sql Server - Import Email From AD Mailbox?
Apr 2, 2012We have an old legacy SQL 2000 server (the last in the farm) - We've been unable to get rid of this server as it uses xp_findnextmsg, xp_readmail etc to monitor a mailbox (via mapi) and import all email to that address into a database. The database contains simple tables that store "from", "to", "subject", "body", "Sent Date" & so on.As you may know, the procs above are no longer in use in SQL 2005+This table is read from dozens of internal systems, for instance emails to this mailbox can be automatically picked up by our helpdesk systems & create calls etc.My question is this: what it the easiest / modern way of doing this in SQL 2008+? Is it going to be a case of writing a .net binary / service that will use smtp or something to connect to a mailbox and insert the data into SQL or is there a simpler way to do it? (SSIS / 3rd party tools / pre-existing code / projects?)
Just thought I'd ask before i start writing something - no point re-inventing the wheel as it were.
PS: The Mailbox in question is an exchange 2010 mailbox.Edit: This functionality was hinted to be re-introduced in 2008 & dbmail: http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/126167/xp-readmail-replacement-for-sql-2005 but it looks like it failed to materialise!

Edit 3: All done! I knocked up a .net service that sits on our exchange server and monitors a mailbox & pushes any new mail into SQL. Incase others have a similar question and need some sample code to get started - here is some rough code (chopped out of my service - replaced parameterised SQL with basic dynamic SQL for easy reading): (Note: you'll need the EWS API 1.1 dll)

Nov 9, 2010I'm allowing users to manage a distribution list stored in a database. Users are only allowed to enter emails that are @mydomain.com. A web based application then takes the distribution list and sends emails. I'd like to validate that the email is valid before sending an email from the application.
To send an email I'm using this code:

Email Code Works On Local System But Not From Web Server?
May 2, 2011I have developed an ASP.Net 2.0 application and I am facing problem in sending email from my Web Server. Following is the VB code I have used to send email from my web application. Thing is when I try to send email from my local system (laptop) the email goes out fine and reaches the recipient address instantly but when I try to send email from my web server it fails.My hosting provider gave me a relay-host address for sending out email. The email goes out fine but the relay host has an annoying amount of delay in email delivery which is a problem during the sign up process.
Here is the code I am using:I have imported system.net.mail in my code and used async="true" on the aspx page.

May 11, 2012I'm trying to use an Exchange Server to send emails from asp.net web application and atm the mail is getting stuck in the drafts folder and not being sent.Emails are being sent fine if i send them using browser or outlook directly. Also if i go to the drafts folder and manually send the vb.net created emails they re being sent and received fine aswell, but that isn't a long term option.
