Combobox Populated From Text File?

Apr 6, 2012

I'm trying to get a combobox to be automatically filled from a text file and have it editable by the user.

So far, when the program is running I can add new items and they appear in the text file and combobox but when I restart the program the combobox list is empty even though the text file has stuff in it.

Dim w As New IO.StreamWriter("z:url.list.txt")
Dim linecounter As Integer
For linecounter = 0 To ComboBox1.Items.Count - 1

Ensure Textbox All Fields Populated With Text And / Or Numbers

Apr 17, 2010

I have a form (formA) which contains a tabcontrol with two tab pages. Each tabpage has 6 textboxes and 3 comboboxes. In addition to the tabcontrol there is a separate combobox and textbox. The question I have, is how to best ensure that all these fields are populated with text and or numbers? From this a start button is pressed which generates another form (formB) which requires the fields from (formA). If for instance 1 or more fields is not populated, then generate a message to show the user which 'box' requires data. Only when all fields are populated will this enable the 'start' button.

ListView Size Of Text Shown Populated By A Database

Dec 17, 2010

I have a list view populated by a database. The columns for each record are First, Last and EMPID. When I look at the list view on the form at runtime, I can see some/all of the First name and then below that may be part of the Last and some ... periods and no EMPID. When I hover over the record, I can see the EMPID. Is there a way to have all of the information in the record visible in the list view?

Multiple Text Box Copy, Skip If Textbox Not Populated?

Jan 31, 2010

I am running Visual Basic Express 2008. I realize this forum category is for VB6 or earlier, so please kindly inform me of where to post this if this is incorrect. This is actually the first forum I have joined ever because I can't figure it out on my own and can't find the code off the website. I am almost done, i I have a ComboBox and 4 text boxes. At the bottom it has CLEAR, UNDO CLEAR, COPY ALL TO CLIPBOARD & COPY SOLUTION which does so for the ComboBox and all 4 text boxes. The format like this (CORP is the ComboBox):

CORP - Workstation - Won't power on - HOSTNAME/USERNAME
PROBLEM/REQUEST:
started happening today

[code]....

And then due to the ticket entry system we use, I have a separate COPY SOLUTION button and that works just fine, but that would read as:

Dispatching tech

Now here's where I'm caught up on, I need to take a textbox where I don't use it because I don't have a use for it dependent on the issue of the person I'm working with and it'll look like this:

CORP - Windows - Password Reset - USERNAME

But, this is where I'm getting stuck, it keeps putting stuff like:

CORP - Windows - Password Reset - /USERNAME
or
- Windows - Password Reset - /USERNAME

VS 2008 Command Prompt Process

Mar 20, 2009

I am having a little trouble with my VB.NET program and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction?I have started a cmd.exe process in my vb.net (2008) program however I would like to execute commands for my process (in the same command prompt window created) on the fly. For example (the commands are irrelevant)... on the click of button 1, I would like to carry out the command "cd C:". Once that has finished I'd like to be able to click button 2 which executes "help". (I do not want the commands to execute when the process starts).[code]

VS 2010 Starting A Process With A Command?

Dec 15, 2011

I want to launch System Restore through my program. I figured out the destination of this feature in Win7 is: WindowsSystem32control.exe sysdm.cpl @0,4

So I wrote this

Dim p As New System.Diagnostics.Process
Private Sub CreateASystemRestorePointToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles

[Code]....

Problem is that it will not work if I have anything behind .exe And "sysdm.cpl @0,4" is vital for this to work, otherwise I just launch Control Panel, which is pretty useless for what I want to achieve.

So how do I include commands like those in Visual Basic?

Command Line To Close Shell Process?

Mar 12, 2011

I've created a very basic WF Shell project which runs an EXE (xyz.exe) in the WF Shell project's Resource folder. I can get a command line working from the Shell to open the other EXE (xyz.exe). But, I can't get code to close the Shell project's other EXE (xyz.exe) once it is opened. The xyz.exe windows called by the Shell continues to stay open even if I pass a "close" command line to the Shell.

The following code (which Paul suggested in another posting) will not close the other (xyz.exe) EXE's running process (when called by the Shell). While the Shell seems to be able to return it's called subordinate EXE's (xyz.exe) ID, not sure how to use such an ID to close its process.

Imports System.Diagnostics
Module Module1
Dim resourceFolder As String = Application.StartupPath & "Resources"

Determine The Origin Of A Process Kill Command?

May 5, 2011

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to programmatically determine how a program was exited. For example I'm sure many of you are familiar with the latest malware that detects antiviral software and ends the process and I know we are all familiar with Task Manager's kill process option. The end that I'm seeking is to find out how to utilize WMI, .NET, Win32, or any other Windows feature or programming tool set to determine the source of a process kill command.

Now to be honest I don't want to prevent the kill command from executing, I'm not trying to hinder the user by denying them the ability to end unwanted processes I'm just trying to figure out and document if a users ends a program normally, if TaskMan was used to force kill, or if another program is purposefully interfering.

Starting A Process In The Current Command Window In .NET

Sep 22, 2010

I have this in a VB.NET console application:

Dim p As ProcessStartInfo
p = New ProcessStartInfo(Environment.CurrentDirectory & "injavac.exe",ClassName & ".java")
Dim ps As Process = Process.Start(p)

This does run the java compiler on the file, but it does so in a new window. I want the output from javac to appear in the same console that is running my application. How can I do this? Perhaps there is another method for running commands in the current console? Or maybe I can supress the second console window from opening and redirect its output to the current console?

VS 2008 - Process.Start AT Command - Return ID

How do I get this ID in my code, as it's needed if I want to delete the scheduled job? I've tried looking at some of the properties of myProc but haven't found the right one yet. Can't Save File Using A Command Line Program Using New Process

Oct 7, 2011

I have been trying to fix this and make this work for pretty much three days now. I already solved one problem being, I can't use the shell on one HDD and create another file onto a different drive other then the drive that the directory of the application is running in.

EX:

If I run a program that is on the C: drive and using a working directory that is on the C: drive, I can not create a file onto the F: drive.

I got this problem when I was just using Shell(Environ$("Comspec") & " /c then the command")

So I decided to use Process()

Dim p = New Process()
p.StartInfo.FileName = "F:Visual Basic ProjectsCode TestingCode TestinginDebugToolsMediaInfoMediaInfo.exe"

VS 2010 Can't Access Files Below Root When Using Process To Run A Command Line Program

Feb 4, 2011

I am trying to create a program that downloads audio files via FTP, converts the audio to mp2 if necessary and copies them to a certain directory for consumption by our automation system. (I am a radio station engineer.)I am using the open source converter FFMpeg to convert audio files to mp2. This is a command line exectuted program. Here is the command line that I use to execute the external program with the input and output audio files at the root level: cmd.exe /k ""C:New Folderffmpeg.exe" -i "C:Test.mp3" -y "C:Test.mp2"" This command line works correctly whether I am using Shell() or System.Diagnostics.Process (Process) to execute the external program. I am going the Process route so I can know when the conversion has finished. Now, I really don't want to use the root directory for this but when I go below root with this line using Process the external program will not execute:[code]Can anyone tell me why that line will not work with Process though it works as expected with Shell()? I can't figure out how to stop the external program to get some feedback as to what its problem is.

Process.Start To Start An External Command Line Application

Aug 4, 2009

I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

No idea why it can't be found, as like I said it executes from the command prompt just fine.

By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).
