Welcome to the All-In-One Code Framework! If you have any feedback,
i have created an application that uses an Access Database. Each time the application closes i tell it to repair and compact the database. The problem is that because the database is stored in the program filesapplication_name folder it requires administrator rights because of UAC. What should i do ? Should i store the database somewhere else where no adminstrator rights are required ?

Can VB 2005 have alternative choice other than publish the application by click once.
I mean to say many installation softwares has choice like "click next"------------>"click next"------------------->"click next"----------->Finish.
And also ask where to install the application(Location to Browse).
I have added some files that I need to be downloaded to the Application start up path. So I set Build Action as content now the files have been copied some where [code]...
How can access file from the application.

I am trying to build a setup file which will install my vb.net application with database and crystal report files to the client.
1.) I created my vb.net application in release mode.
2.) I created new setup project and added my vb.net application project in that solution.
3.) Also added the primary output in application folder
4.) [dun know how to add database so] created app_data folder inside the application folder and added the database file manually from add->file
5.) [dun know how to add crystal reports so] created reports folder inside the application folder and added the reports manually from add->file
6.) Build solution.
7.) Tried deploying in client machine.
8.) Application runs fine and works great. But crystal report files doesn't. When i try to open crystal report some long error messages comes in my way.
So I would like to know is the way i am doing to add the database file and crystal report files correct? how can i make crystal reports work in client machine?

View 5 RepliesI have an application that has an Ms Access 2007 DataBase which runns great if access is installed. Is there any code that I can use in vb that I would be able to run access with out installing it.
View 5 RepliesThis is probably a pretty novice design question. I'm trying to work my way through a number of requirements and give the users the experience they're looking for.I've written a tool that does big calcluation-type things. It currently consists of a class library and command line tool (separate .NET projects.) We're using an Access database format as the file type because it can keep all the various tables together in one file. A few other items about the application: There are not many users. There are no concerns with scalability. There are not great concerns with updates. Desktop is desired. Not web.Using VB and .NET 3.5 SP1
I now need to develop a GUI front end that will allow typical File/Open and File/Save type operations.Users expect that they can open a file, edit it some, then either choose to save it or close it unsaved without any changes being written back to the file. Saving it would obviously save all changes affecting all tables back to the file.
Does it then make sense to use a temp file for something like a proxy then? To, when a user "opens" a file, copy the source Access file to a local temp file and then use that for the editing session? Then, if the user "saves", copy the local temp file back to the source path?
Update: [tagged with ms-access tag too] Also, I omitted the fact that users would expect typical File / Save As functionality too. I think the design I've put in question in this post is what is traditionally called the Proxy design pattern. Has anyone tried this (successfully!) with Access database files before? Words of caution or advice?
Is it possible to use microsoft access database for Windows mobile application and save this mdb file locally in the pocket pc?because im trying to make an application to connect to mdb database but this imports seems to be not working.

oledb is not a member of system.data. why?
I have two Access database, say database One.mdb and Two.mdb. I want to use VB2005 to export tblCustomer from One.mdb to Two.mdb, and replace the existing tblCustomer in Two.mdb, during run time. I basically want to simulate the export function that is available in MS Access (which can export one table from one Access database to another) with VB2005 during run time. I can think of a way by querying the table to a dataset and then delete everything on the other database before filling the table in that database with the dataset. However, there should be something simpler and faster than that, shouldn't it? Any idea?
View 6 RepliesI'm using VS 2010, and I did a project using VB and a database in Access. The problem is that when I try to put that "application" on other computers, sometimes, is not working. I thought it can be because on these computers they don't have access, but on one computer, is running another app which is using Access and there is no Access installed. How can I check if my application requires Access to be installed or not?
Here is a example of how I did the connection:
Public AccessOLEDBConnString= "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & myfullpath & ";Jet OLEDB:Database Password=password"
Function getConnection() As OleDb.OleDbConnection
[CODE]...
And when I want to have access at the data I'm doing like this:
dim conn as Oledb.OledbConnection
dim sql as string
dim ds as Dataset

I have an application that I have written in vb.net that is going to be deployed to about 100 people throughout my company as a desktop application.Is there a way for me to make updates or rebuilds and deploy those changes to users without having to make them uninstall the application and re-install the updated version? I have been using the build function inside vb.net and it publishes and creates an install but any time I make changes or updates to the app I have to un-install and re-install the .app to my desktop.
View 1 RepliesI previously submitted the same problem using Vb2008 express. Could not get it resolved. I reinstalled the program in visual studio 2005. The Access database is configured in Access 2003. I ran the program and got an exception error. The subroutine for the compacting is:
Public Sub CompactDatabase()
im jro As JRO.JetEngine
jro = New JRO.JetEngine

I want to connect to a Access Database I've tried to do it though Data Binding and that doesn't seem to be working so I'm going to have to do this through Code... every book I have tells you how to do it with SQL Server but can't find a example for Access that doesn't involve just using the databinding tool. Writing the queries isn't a issue it's just connecting to the database and then putting that data into a couple of text boxes. Lets say the database is called TestData and the table is ClientInfo and we want to put Date, First, Last into txtBox 1, 2 and 3 respectively when the form loads.
View 8 RepliesI'm new to using databases within VB, so bear with me. I've created a couple of extremely simple tables in Access, and I've successfully connected to them in VB. My questions are:1. Is it possible to import the tables' field properties with the table, such as the captions for the columns or the number formats. Those details seemed to have disappeared during the import. Or do I need to set all these properties within VB after the
View 6 RepliesI'm building an aplication with an MS Access database behind the scene. In many of my forms I'm gonna use DataGridViews to show data from the database, not an entire table but data based on manually built queries. So, I have few questions without answers, by now. Solutions or 1. I haven't decided how will I bring the database into the project: from the menu -> Add New Data Source, or within the code, at runtime. I still don't know which one's best or why.2. How exactly can I execute any SQL query (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE etc) on my Access database from my aplication?
View 3 RepliesI have an Access data base back end that contains only the tables that was created in the year 2005 (by someone no longer here so cannot answer much about past and I am not very familiar with Access). When I use SSMA 2005 for Access v4.0 to migrate to SQL 2005 a table with images (defined as OLE Object) the ones that appear in the Access table as bitmap will work fine, there are ones that appear in the Access table as "Microsoft Photo Editor 3.0 Photo" or "Picture" that will not. I set up a data source and used tableadapters in a VB Windows Form and used data binding by dragging the column from the data table and dropping it on a predefined picture box on the form (this basic method works fine for all the other columns in the table). I am using Visual Studio 2008.
The Access database is over 130 megs and we are migrating it to make it available across a network to multiple and sometimes distant sites. [Code] I have used all the extensions defined in Photo Editor and this .obd is just another one I have tried to see if that makes any difference. I tried moving the array to a variable defined as an Image and then moving that to the picture box and that failed too. [Code]
OK, before I throw my laptop out the window... I need to insert data into my Access Database from my VB.Net2005 application. I have written and re-written this code, trying everything I can find from the web and I've had no luck. I'm getting a {"Data type mismatch in criteria expression."} error on the ExecuteNonQuery line - I'm fairly certain that it's the DateTimePickers, as I rem them out and the code works fine. However, I've tried everything - changed the column in my database to Text, changed the .Value to .Text, .Value.ToLongDateString, and every time I'm getting the same error. One of the things I read on line was that I need to use parameters in order to pass the DateTime - I need to pass the Date and Time (date format is not important, but I require the hh:mm:ss format for the time). The fields currently default to the current date/time which is perfect, but I read that depending on how you pass the data, you may run into problems if the user does not pick the drop box (leaving it as the default).
[Code].....
com=new oledbcommand("Select tablename SET Roll=@Roll or Name=@Name or Age=@Age WHERE Roll=@Roll or Name=@Name or Age=@Age")
command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Name", Combobox1.text)
command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Age", textbox1.text)
command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Roll", Combobox2.text)
Is this a correct syntax of updating an access database using parameters?
For some reason I am not able to use DoCmd.OutputTo with my access object in VB.net 2005. I get the following error: 'OutputTo' is ambiguous because multiple kinds of members with this name exist in interface 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Access.DoCmd
I am referencing the Microsoft Access 12.0 Object Library and using Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
Dim objAccess As New Access.Application
objAccess.OpenCurrentDatabase("C:Database.mdb", False)
objAccess.DoCmd.OutputTo(
A similiar command Docmd.SendObject seems to work just fine, so I don't know why I am getting that error or how to fix it.
Is there a need to explicitly close the connection in this Microsoft Data Access Application Block for .NET? i am encountering timeout expired pooling errors in the sql server 2000. I am wondering if the unclosed connection is the problem
View 2 RepliesWould I be able to publish my application in a .exe to where anyone can download and install it?
View 1 RepliesI'm a beginner with Visual Studio and a Mac user switching to Windows. Well, I'm ready to release the first freeware title. So I go to Build > Publish (application name). And the Publish Wizard guides me through the process and asks me where to publish this application. Do I point it to C:Program Files ? The permission of this folder is set to Read-only. So I'll get an error with this path. I can successfully publish the application if I point the path to Desktop. But that's not a good location where users install applications, is it?
