I have tried to do some research on my own but I haven't found anything substantial. I was wondering if it is possible to pull low-level hardware information off of a HDD or stick of RAM using the latest visual basic.net. Mostly curious in pulling serial number and model number.
View 2 RepliesI am working with an ArrayList of ArrayLists. Every time I add a new ArrayList to the main AL, it replaces all previously added ALs with the new one.Here's an example

I would expect the Final line should be "Final: one, two, three" but that is not the case. And if I pause and check my ArrayList (al), it shows 3 items, that all have "three" in every spot which is what the last AL I added looked like.
The program is currently trying to pull information from three different database tables and compiling the information onto one screen, to do this i am using three different connections and a function to handle the data at each stage. The issue is as my code hits PageLoadStage of "2" and runs the QueryDatabase() Function i am encountering an error of: "OleDB exception unhandled: No value given for one or more of the required parameters." This occurs on line 15 of the first code snippet. Can anyone explain this and/or identify any code issues if that is the cause.

I have a dataset with a number of data columns, due to sizing issues I've updated a number of the varchar columns from say VARCHAR(20) to VARCHAR(50).I'd like the DataTable to automatically grab the new column information, is this possible? I'd rather not go through each column in the table and update the length.

In my application I house the data in a DataSet and then use a DataView to reference it in a Grid.
I'm using VS2005, VB.NET, and I have two questions:
1) How do I replicate the Sort I'm using in my XSLT?
2) How do I pull the primary Author up to the Book level so that it can be displayed in the Grid?

I am building a program using VS 2010.It needs to be a set of forms that allows a manager to log in so that data entry people can enter in data based on another form.I also need to create a hot key set up that pulls up another form so that a supervisor can pull up the information that employees have entered.I have my solution file that I can put up for a download if needs be to see what I'm talking about. I don't think it should be that hard to make this program work.

I have created a simple program which uses a two tier structure of SQL Tables.At the top level, one record holds the date of the activities and linked to it using its primary key as a foreign key, three subordinate tables hold time stamped records.The issue I have been unable to solve is that before adding any of the lower level records for a given date, a newly added top level record must be saved to the database.Doing this manually is simple - but can I rely on my users to remember to do this before they start plugging in the lower level data?I thought not, so I am looking to save the top level automatically.I've failed miserably but I refuse to believe that it's not possible.
View 14 RepliesI have multiple level of For Each and in each level, i have a Linq that is the 'In' criteria as in:

It will go inside each for (because the value is not nothing), however, it will only loop (next) in the very inner 'For Each t In tFor'. After it is finish inner loops, the outer Fors' or Next will not execute... even thought there are more than one values in that 'In'... like 'sFor' or 'fFor'. i've noticed while debuging, while break at the for (for example 'sFor', before stepping in), i get the error message:
"Enumeration yielded no results" when i expand the result for that variable and it will not step into it. but if i do not expand the result, it will step in. It seem that some how, once an element is accessed for that 'In' collection, it breaks (meaning does not loop for the rest of the elements) the next for that collection is this a bug or am i missing something in Linq? BTW: i believe it has something to do with the SqlDataReader in the Linq. I'm working with IAsyncResult.

I looked around for some software examples, but everything I've seen uses DirectShow which was apparently part of DirectX-9, but does not seem to be in DirectX-10. I've found AxMSVidCtlLib, but have not been able to work out how to use it.

View 13 RepliesI would like to have my application basically appear as if it was part of the desktop background, I've removed the form border etc and made the background colour of the form the same as our standard company background so it all blends in nicely. I have also made it so the app does not appear in the toolbar and it is set to launch on startup so it appears as soon as the user logs in - so all works fine and looks fine because any new apps that the user opens will open on top of my app. The only problem is that if they press the Show Desktop button (or use Windows Key + D) to minimize all apps, mine gets minimized as well and disappears. Its easy enough to get the user to make it appear again as it has a system tray icon that they can interact with, but it would be better if it just didn't vanish when they did this.Now I know the best thing for this on Windows 7 would be a Gadget but the problem is that Gadget's annoyingly have to be HTML/javascript and a) I'm not great with web coding and b) I don't think it is even possible to do what my app does from a HTML/javascript page... oh and c) I can't find any way to deploy gadgets in a business network (there is no way we are installing it manually on all 300 of our PCs), so the gadget idea is not looking very promising.I'm wondering if there is some window message I can capture and ignore in the WndProc event handler

1. an electronic product
2. a memory stick (USB mass storage device) and
3. CD thast includes the Windows user interface program
The electronic product acts as a host controller that write data to a file (.wcs), which is in the memory stick whenever the user plug it to the USB connector. After this the user disconnect the memory stick from the electronic product and plug it to a PC that run the user interface program. Untill now the user searches for the .wcs file manually using an OpenFileDialog.
My question is:Is it possible for the program to automatic detect almost plaged or new plaged USB flash memory sticks in order to load open the needed .wcs file? If this is possible then how can I do it?
I am trying to write a simple standalone windows forms project that basically contains various buttons which run external application setup files. The problem is I want to be able to run it from a USB stick. I have created a folder inside the project with all the files I need to call in it. I am using Process.start but the paths are obviously going to be wrong when the project is running from the stick as the drive letter may be different each time. How do I over come this.

I am using a WPF richtextbox to create a syntax highlighter for code provided in a textbox. I want to have it automatically adjust the rich textbox as I am typing, using a thread timer I reset the contents of the rich textbox. I am trying to keep the cursor where it is suppose to be. I don't loose any text characters during the parse (except line breaks).
I don't know how to keep the caret position where the user has left it in the text. It defaults to the end of the document. I attempt to store the current caret position in the text and then set it to the document after I make my changes, however the error I receive is "Cannot set CaretPosition to be outside of RichTextBox." So I set the caret position to the bottom of the document.

I have a folder which holds database backups and I need a script that gives me the full name of the most recent backup (file name consists of a date and time stamp). This file name will then need to be used in a variable within SSIS.
