For example, I run a sub in the dll and I need "receive" the event that the sub in the class is running.
The dll is creted by me in vb, but i don't know how raise events on it to be catched in the form.

View 6 RepliesI have a single solution with 2 projects. One project contains all my forms and some other modules and the other project has 1 module with 1 giant class in it. I try to click on properties and change the output type, but it won't let me make it a Class Library, the only 2 options are "Windows Application" or "Console Application". The startup object is the module, and the project has references to a socket component.

After that, i`ve created a class library in VB.NET and added this C# component and a couple of buttons to the library (creating another component now with buttons). So far, so good.The problem is: when i use this final component (vb.net class library), i want to link all MouseClick Events of its own components (buttons and C# component). In other words, when i add this final class library to my VB solution, it has its own MouseClick event. But when i click inside it doesnt raise the click event unless i do not click in the buttons or in the C# component inside it. View 14 RepliesOk, so I'm writing a basic windows form application in VB.net as you do and need to be able to raise keyboard events based on data received from the serial port. I'm able to receive the characters that I want (lets say a lower case c) and display them. Its also easy enough for me to find the keycode. What I want to do though is tell windows that key "c" has been pressed. The application is paired to a bluetooth terminal, I wanted to have the experience of writing the code behind this myself rather than using another library although it seems I've failed already. How would I go about doing this?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to write a wrapper to a service, which will be used by an existing VB6 project. I've got most of the basic framework working, except for one important aspect: I can reference the wrapper in a VB6 project and subs/function calls etc. work as expected, but events do not. The events are visible in the VB6 app, but they never fire.

So, the cmdTest button code prints 'Done' as expected, but the Action_Response event doesn't fire. Is there something else do I need to do to get the event to fire?

Problem that you may have when dealing with two objects that are raising some events. Here, to make it obvious, I am closing the form, but the problem can be experienced with any other 2 classes event. First, what is the problem !

View 6 RepliesI have a Windows Form application compiled to a .exe that contains standard classes and one windows form class. I would like to reference that .exe in another project. The dialog to add references shows .exe, I add the file to my project, I can see the classes from that file but when I run the second executable I get a "cannot load type" error when I try to access the classes contained in the referenced .exe
That behavior seems strange to me since the IDE accept the .exe as a reference and even "intelisenses" its classes.
I do this because I want a standalone version of the form, but I also reuse it in other project. Am I doing it wrong, what's the best practice in my scenario? I'd rather not maintain both a Class Library project and a Windows Form project that includes the same code.
I have a .net class library with a com class that calls a form. I want to to SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false) to ensure the form fonts look nice.
If I run the command in the class constructor I get the following error:
SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault must be called before the first IWin32Window object is created in the application.
Edit1: To clarify, I get this error when initiating the class from a .net test harness, if I call it from a VB6 app then I simply get "Automation Error"
Edit2: Is the answer that I cannot use SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault in a com class when calling from a vb6 app?? Maybe it's the "parent" app that needs to call this method and as such a vb6 app cannot?

I was wondering about the EventInfo.GetRaiseMethod and EventInfo.GetOtherMethods methods. Apparently, the CLR supports 4 kinds of methods associated with events: add, remove, raise, and "others". But events created in C# only have add and remove... I assumed that raise was used in VB, since you have to specify a RaiseEvent method when you declare a custom event, but apparently it's not the case: GetRaiseMethod always returns null.what's the point in having a raise method associated with an event if it's never used? Is there a specific MSIL instruction to raise an event using this method? (I couln't find anything like it in the opcodes)what are the "other" methods returned (well, not returned actually) by GetOtherMethods? What's are they supposed to do?are there types in the BCL that implement those special methods?
View 2 RepliesI am hoping there is a way to do this.I have a base class that has event handling in it. My console application is running my workflow. Part of that workflow is to raise events at specific intervals in a separate thread to broadcast the workers' current state (a heartbeat I have heard many call it).
I also have another program in the same solution that is a windows form that I want it to be able to listen to what is going on in the console application so that it can display the worker states. I have tried running both at the same time and verified the events are triggering, but the monitor is not finding any of the raised events.
I am fearing that there is no way to do this, and I will need to go to a database logging method or something else... but in the off chance someone knew how to communicate between applications with event (or event-style) logic, I would appreciate it.Currently the applications are running from the same location. The goal is that the monitor application will eventually be attached with a broadcaster for our network so that our workstations can monitor for certain worker states without being logged into the machine and the main monitor will show us the full status of all the workers.
I'm trying to understand the concept of Raise Events and threading, From this tutorial i've just read in the author example he wrote that you need to use an event when calling sub when using threading, but he didnt elaborate enough in this subject, why can't I just call the function/sub as i always do?
View 22 RepliesI've been coding a Windows applicaton for the past seven months but there aren't a lot of "windows" in the application so I have a question on getting and returning data from forms. I display a form and the user makes a listbox selection then presses Ok. Normally I can proceed from there (in a class module) with values from the config file, but sometimes his selection will require me to ask for more information. So I want the class to display a form, pass control to it, then when the user hits OK on this form, return to the class. What is happening is the class continues with all its inline code and function calls and doesn't show the form until the end of its current function.

When I run and step through this code, I find I'm in x() before I even saw the form. x() needs the data the user has entered on frmAbc in order to continue.

View 4 RepliesEF Navigation properties don't raise OnPropertyChanging and OnPropertyChanged Events.When looking into the entity framework auto-generated code a simple property will have a setter that looks like this:

Seems like the navigation properties should call just call the 4 change notification methods. Do you have any insights on why the EF generater would be implemented in this manner? Is there an option somewhere to turn on notification or a work-around? Also, I assume that editing the designer generated code is bad practice, correct?
I've created a VB.Net ClassLibrary with a UserControl in it. I can load it from an HTML page and call the methods that I created. This works as expected. I've tried several examples for how to raise an event from the VB code to the js caller, and none of them seem to work (I'm using IE7).
