Im designing a program that will read from various text files (preferably RTF files) and then put them into the RTF box in the program when a button is clicked.
Here is the portion of my code that i am referring to.
Try Dim fileText As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("c:\" & selectedHero & ".rtf")
Catch MsgBox("Selected Hero currently has no File with us.") End Try
Now heres the problem. In the file i have a few pictures and its formatted and what not. I thought since its a RTF file and the Box is RTF it would auto format.... but anyways. It appears like this in the RTF Box.
I current have an app that I am trying to create. I have 2 List boxes, a textbox, and a command button. What I am trying to do is take about 100 text files that all have certain text in them that I need to change at run time to whatever I put into the textbox. For instance Each Text file has my old company name and I want to be able enter my new name into the textbox and click the command button and the app will open each text file, find the text that I specify and replace it with my new name then save the file into a specified folder. What elements should I be studying to make this happen? So far this is what I've come up with:
OpenFileDialog - to open the file
StreamReader - to read the text files and find the text that I specified
**Not sure on the replace method**
StreamWriter - to write the text from the textbox to the new file
SaveFileDialog - to save the file to the specified location

I am making a recipe book that calculates the amounts of each ingredient needed for a dinner. The user inputs the number of people they are cooking for and then my program works out the amounts of ingredients needed, simply by * number of people.I know how to read from text files using commands such as: My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText()But does anyone know how to take text for a text file, then multiply the contents of that file by the number of people? The text file only stores numbers, but I want to multiply each line seperately..Instead if getting the result of 10050*3, I want 100*3 and 50*3 on a seperate line.[code]For this to work, I suggest downloading the full project. You will also need to create a folder with two text files inside it. This will not work without them. "QuantityList.txt" and "IngredientList.txt".
I have 500 odd csv files that I need to pick up and load into a table in Teradata. How do I combine this 500 files data into one file Or is there a script that will go and fetch data from each file and load it into the table. Here are more details.I have a bunch of hotels and the end of each day all the hotels dump in one file into a common folder. Like
Now I need a script to pick all these files data and load it into one file so that I can use this file to insert data into a table using a fast load script i already have.I have a script that will read this file copy it to a new location and archive it.I can use this final file to load my table. But I dont have a script to read all these files and also read the new file that comes in everyday and load it into one csv file.
I'm completely new to .NET and am trying as a first step to write a text processing program. The task is simple: I have a list of 10,000 text files stored in one folder, and I'm trying to read each one, store it as a string variable, then run it through a series of functions, then save the final output to another folder. So far I can only manage to manually input the file path like this (in VB.NET):
[Code]...
I'm wondering, therefore, if there's a way to automate this process. Perhaps for example store all input file path into a text file then read each entry at a time, then save the final output into the save path, again listed in a text file.
I have many text files in a folder. What I can do now is to read through one text at a time and insert it into the database. My little app reads a text file when I debug it. So, I need to run it several times to read all those text files and import them into the database.
My question is how to read multiple text files inside a folder at a time. Here's my code which works fine but it reads only one text files at a time.Private Sub btnRead_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnRead.Click
[Code]...
I need a way to loop through a folder and check if there's text file. But I cant get it right. Can anyone show me some code or links ? I'm using VB.NET, .NET 3.5
I am a new to visual basic 2010 and I am creating a small game program that will have players names and keep their scores in a text file. I placed the text file in debug folder for debugging purposes. The code below has been simplified for demonstrating purposes only.
Any simple/easy (emphasis on easy, I am a major beginner) to read through text files quickly, search for strings and pull information. I am currently using the 'StreamReader' function and 'InStr' command, but the files I am working with are gigantic and this is taking from 1/2 an hour to a few hours to work its way through.
Here is a sample of the code I am currently using - poke fun at will, I am a major newbie. strContentsTime1_jntfor=0 Do Until strContentsTime1_jntfor Is Nothing strContentsTime1_jntfor = objFile1.ReadLine() 'look for string 'time' strFindStringTime_jntfor = "time" [Code] .....
I'm saving path's to text files in a text file so the user himself would be able to add new data. My problem is that I need to make a loop that reads from these different text files and stores the data (but I don't know how many there might be.) This was my try to it:[code]
creating a function that reads in data from multiple textfiles into a combobox. The function just needs to read line 1 into from every text file into the combobox.
I am just starting out and my boss has this project that I have to do. I have been searching but haven't found anything that can explain well for me to understand. Here is my project. I have 2 xls files that I need to read in. I need to create 2 new xls files from the read in data. Then add columns to each and write in data for those columns.
When reading data from an excel file the driver tries to detect the data type of a column based on the contents of that column.
Once it's decided on the datatype then data that is not compatible with that datatype is simply ignored and returned as Null when you read that column using ado.net
For example if most of the column contains numbers then the occasional cell containing non-numeric data is returned as null.
Is there a way to force it to always return all data as text no matter what the actual column contains. ?

Obviously, I need a way to loop through a folder and check if there's text file. But I cant get it right.
my knowledge of VB.net is limited and i'm really trying hard to figure this problem out...
what i did was create a list box and populate it with a directory ("C:Documents and Settingsuserfolder1")...
once the listbox displays the files from the directory, i want to select a certain file and that file will be opened up in a rich text box. What i found to display the directory in a listbox is:
Dim directory As New IO.DirectoryInfo("C:Documents and SettingsjtanDesktopRECV") Dim diar1 As IO.FileInfo() = directory.GetFiles() Dim dra As IO.FileInfo Dim files As String
I am writing an application that will use a OpenFileDialog control that will read a text file into memory and later process it.
I do have the following filter: Text files (*.txt)|*.txt|CSV files (*.csv)|*.csv|Spaced Text files (*.prn)|*.prn|All files (*.*)|*.*"
When I navigate to my test folder that contains a single .txt file, I see that file. When I change the filter to *.cvs that files goes disappears because it has a .txt extension. That is good. But when I select All files *.* it does not re appear? Why and how do I make it appear.
Question: How do I programmatically determine which provider to use (Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 vs Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0) when my app runs as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?
I'm developing a VB.net WinForms app in VS 2010 and targeting both x86 and x64.The app processes data from xls, xlsx, mdb and accdb files using System.Data.OleDb:Dim oConn As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=...")
The x64 version of the program works as expected. The x86 version works as expected on a system with Office x86.When I run the x86 version on a machine with Office 2010 x64, I get the following exception when trying to open a connection:
The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.I believe this is because I'm running Office 2010 x64 so the x86 data access components are not installed.I can get it to work for Office 2003 files (*.mdb and *.xls) by changing the provider to Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0.
How do I figure out which provider to use when running as a 32-bit process on a machine with Office x64 installed?Ideally, I'd like a function:If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0") Then
Else If ProviderIsAvailableFor("Microsoft.JET.OLEDB.4.0") Then
I am currently trying to develop an algorithm for the following problem: Read data from a text file such as: the driver returns on his glorious day. He's very happy to be safe and.sound at home, with his wife. With that data, i need to print the length of each word in the file and the total number of words in the file. But symbols such as . or , or ' cannot be included in the word length.
I only want to place the numerical data in an array. At the moment I have the following code to do this. [Code]. This code places the numbers in the data array when there is not any text in the file, i.e. when there are no headers. I would like to place the headers in another array, and then have the numbers in the array as in the code above.
I am trying to build a VB.NET 2005 windows app which gets cars info from a webpage(webapplication) that has a username and password.
I was able to programmatically login to this webpage(by automatically populating the input boxes using webbrowser control) And after I logged in, I could view the cars data in browser and I did "View Source" but the cars data (such as car model, brand, color etc..) were not viewable in the page source code. So how can I read these data with my application?
