Read Excel Files Without Having To Install Any Update In The Server?

I need to develop a service and install it into a w2003 box to read excel files a then process its info. The process is as follows, users will upload excel files using FTP and then my service must take those files, validate and then update a SQL Server DB.
The application runs fine on my computer but on the server it asks for the libraries but when I try to install the MS office 2003 Primary Interop Assemblies, system displays "Please install Microsoft Office 2003 before installing the product".
I'd prefer to stay away of any server upgrade as we should require OKs, etc.. so, is there a simple way to just read excel files without having to install any update in the server.

I have two, soon to be many spreadsheet files. There are cell references between the files which need to be updated. I would write this in a excel macro but these spreadsheets are design tables for Solidworks, a CAD system and it does not allow macro enabled workbooks. So what I would like to do is push a button and open all of the spreadsheets, accept the update workbook prompt then save and close the files.
I've seen a similar command developed by someone using the Soildworks API but updating design tables in solidworks takes ALOT of time to run compared to just opening and closing spreadsheets.I am using Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 along with Excel 2010 Beta 2 (I like to have the new things)

I am using Visual Studio 2005. I am using a data reader to read an Excel spreadsheet and want to update a SQL Express table. The datatypes in this table mimic a software application I will eventually be passing data to and are listed in the comments in my code. No matter what I do or change, this will not run. I even populated my spreadsheet with zeros and this will not run. I have found many suggestions on the web and tried changing things but nothing seems to work. I also don't know specifically which variable is causing the error or the proper way to make sure there are no blanks in this spreadsheet.The error says "conversion from string "" to 'Double' is not valid Here is my code:

Application using ado.net
When reading data from an excel file the driver tries to detect the data type of a column based on the contents of that column.
Once it's decided on the datatype then data that is not compatible with that datatype is simply ignored and returned as Null when you read that column using ado.net
For example if most of the column contains numbers then the occasional cell containing non-numeric data is returned as null.
Is there a way to force it to always return all data as text no matter what the actual column contains. ?

So, I am already able to successfully import an excel file to sql server through my vb application BUT I want to automatically change a value in a certain column to another. To expand on this, my excel file has a column that lists test titles such as "WCOB 1120 Access Test". I want to have each specific test title changed to a number. So, "WCOB 1120 Access Test" would need to be changed to '1' before it is added into my database.

I'm trying to copy multiple excel source files into one excel file. My current code is working only for 3 source files..If more than 3 files are there, it doesn't copy the data but creates blank work sheet in the output excel file. Lets say I have a source folder with 5 excel files. Each workbook contains one worksheet with data. It copies upto 3 worksheets along with data into output excel file.
Lets say excel1 contains A as work sheet, excel2 contains B as work sheet ,excel3 contains C as work sheet ,excel4 contains D as work sheet ,excel5 contains E as work sheet .Now my output excel file should look like..OutputExcel with A, B, C, D, E along with respective data.But my current code is giving output as A,B,C worksheets along with respective data but its creating blank sheet1,sheet2 in place of D & E.

I was created simple payroll system application. It's already working on my local pc. Now, my client want to install in their server and they need to access atleast 3 pc's to it. This application compiled using setup and deployment. During the installation the access database included with the same directory of the executable file. If I will install this application on their server do I have to install also in their 3 pc's? but every installation it has included access database. I am trying to read excel data (Excel 2007 SP1, on Windows XP SP3) with visual basic .net 2008 (VB 9.0 SP1). Basically we ran into where, for whatever reason, we had to put some 3rd party dll in the GAC for it to work correctly. (The assemblies loaded, but had weird behavior and trouble finding types in the loaded assemblies. The app itself is a add in to another 3rd party program, so it must be something about how its being loaded.) So I tried to write some quick code to handle this without having to manually do this on each machine it was needed on. This is basically what the code boils down to:

Where name is the filename of the dll. This runs without error. It even add the assembly to the GAC. However, the application still experiences the same issue until you manually add the assembly in .Net Configuration window.
