I'm trying to deploy my first program and I've run into the following trouble. The program uses an access database dbUserPractice.accdb. In debug mode, everything works fine. When I deploy, install and run the application, I get a System.TypeInitializationException (which I asked about in a separate thread). The inner exception is the following:
System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException
Could not find file 'C:UsersPatrickAppDataLocalApps2.0DataW8EL4B31.5OL13DJ6BGK.5TNgmat..tion_97baec9c26ea8d1a_0000.000a_bf94ecc77eee8fa0DatadbUserPractice.accdb'.
If I manually paste dbUserPractice.accdb in the directory above, the application runs ok. Why isn't the installer putting the file where the application will need it? The file is part of the downloaded install package (it is in the 'Application Files' folder as 'dbUserPractice.accdb.deploy')

Clickonce deployment 'Publish succeeded,' however not files are uploaded to the server, and the deployment webpage does not start, even though 'automatically generate deployment web page after every publish' is enabled. The problem began after copied the application from running on 'XP' and tried to publish from vista.

Private Sub Button1_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If Not System.Windows.Forms.Clipboard.GetDataObject() Is Nothing Then
Dim oDataObj As IDataObject = System.Windows.Forms.Clipboard.GetDataObject()
If oDataObj.GetDataPresent(System.Windows.Forms.DataFormats.Bitmap) Then
[code].....
is fine for grabbing a graphic from the clipboard, but I'm after grabbing a file that's been copied there, either copied from explorer or from an email attachment from Outlook.
System.Windows.Forms.Clipboard.GetFileDropList(0) is fine if it's been copied from Explorer, but fails if it's a mail attachment.

i want to specify a folder and then have all files from "Temporary Internet Files" copied in to the specified location. I have specified both locations, and yet it fails. I think this could be caused by the fac that the "Temporary Internet Files" is located within a hidden file/s How should i go about copying the directory?

I am wanting to create a large amount of files all copied from a single original file. I then have a list of names in a listbox that each of of these files will rename to. However I am getting an error saying that the file already exists in the save location even though the files are saving to a totally different folder...
code below.
Dim Counter As Integer = listFileNames.Items.Count
Do Until Counter = 0
System.IO.File.Move(txtOpen.Text, txtSave.Text)

I am planning to make a setup wizard for my program through visual studio 2010. My program uses SQL databases, and I just wanted to know if there is a way to check if SQL is installed through the setup wizard and if not install it. Or at the very least provide a link to where they can get an easy setup file.

One of the applications I've written uses DirectX in order to record the user speaking (basically for making verbal notes about something). It fails to work correctly when the installed version of DirectX isn't recent enough. I'm just using a setup project of the type inbuilt into VS 2005, is there a way to check at install time that DirectX is recent enough?

I have a datagrid displayed. I want to be able to show a tool tip on the cells that have info. The info I have the tooltip are the results of a store procedure that I run, and sve the results as a string value. Then pass that value to the tool tip. My strore procedure works properly in SQL. And when I hard code values in my code, it works just fine. I step through the code and the values the SP needs are correct, just the output is Null. My biggest concern is how I'm calling this, under cell formatting.
Private Sub QDGV_CellFormatting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellFormattingEventArgs) Handles QDGV.CellFormatting
If e.Value.ToString.Length = 4 Then

Here is my
Dim DblFahrenheit As Double
If TextBox_FahrenheitTemp.Text.Length = 0 Then
MessageBox.Show("No temperature was given. Please enter a temperature to convert.")
ElseIf DblFahrenheit = Not Double.Parse(TextBox_FahrenheitTemp.Text) Then

Since I want to printing out their code which are representing in Hex.

Basically we ran into where, for whatever reason, we had to put some 3rd party dll in the GAC for it to work correctly. (The assemblies loaded, but had weird behavior and trouble finding types in the loaded assemblies. The app itself is a add in to another 3rd party program, so it must be something about how its being loaded.) So I tried to write some quick code to handle this without having to manually do this on each machine it was needed on. This is basically what the code boils down to:
Dim X As New System.EnterpriseServices.Internal.Publish
X.GacInstall(name)
Where name is the filename of the dll. This runs without error. It even add the assembly to the GAC. However, the application still experiences the same issue until you manually add the assembly in .Net Configuration window.

My program has 1,000 + .rtf files and when I publish/Install it's HUGE! 200mb +. I have other apps from other software companies that have more documents than mine, and their entire application is around 50mb. What am I missing here? How do I accomplish the same thing? Does it have to do with the Property Settings of the .rtf files called: "Build Action" and "Copy to Output Directory"? I set my "Build Action" to "Content" for all my .rtf files, and set "Copy to Output Directory" to "Copy Always".

I need to develop a service and install it into a w2003 box to read excel files a then process its info. The process is as follows, users will upload excel files using FTP and then my service must take those files, validate and then update a SQL Server DB.
The application runs fine on my computer but on the server it asks for the libraries but when I try to install the MS office 2003 Primary Interop Assemblies, system displays "Please install Microsoft Office 2003 before installing the product".
I'd prefer to stay away of any server upgrade as we should require OKs, etc.. so, is there a simple way to just read excel files without having to install any update in the server.

I have finally finished an application which works really well on the PC upon which I developped it using VB 2008 Express. My problem is that when I publish it and try to install the ClickOnce output files on another PC (tried two so far, both WinXP) I get a missing files error. There is an error output saying that downloading the .exe.manifest file did not succeed. Unfortunately the error detail is confusing and does not seem to indicate exactly which files are missing. On both of the PC's that I tried I was prompted io install .net 3.5 SP1, which seemed to have been successful. The inference is that it is not a .net file that is missing.

I could not figure out the key to installing folders/subfolders/.rtf files during deployment/installation. The key here is to 'add' folders and subfolders to the project in solution explorer, then adding existing item (.text (.rtf files in my case) files) then selecting the .rtf file in solution explorer.go to its properties and under 'Build Action' select 'Content' (very Important!). Then under 'Copy to Output' select 'Copy if newer'!Then in code to access these files you use the following code:
Me.RichTextBoxDisplay.LoadFile(Path.Combine(Application.StartupPath, "KJV BibleOTExodusExodus KJV.rtf"))
Finally after 3 days of research and 2 days at the msdn forum picking peoples minds (smarter than mine) and lots of prayer, I got it!

My program I wrote is using Outlook 12.0 lib for Outlook 2007. I have referenced this in the project. This exe will only be installed on computers that has Outlook 2007 on it. So with this being the case, do I need to bother including any of the lib files? Or just my exe?I have this in my form:
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
Imports System.Reflection
Imports System.IO
Imports System.Text
[code]....
So I assume the Interop is all part of the object lib? I know this sounds crazy but I tried coding it using late-binding with many examples but just had too many problems. So I'm going to make three different exe's for versions 2003, 2007 and 2010.

I wrote some software in Vb6 a long while ago and this program creates a datafile. This datafile stores variables like doubles, ints, arrays etc, using the Get/Put methods from VB6. This all worked great for vb6.I am now starting to rewrite this tool in .net and find that the binaryreader as well as the other fileopen methods do not convert the doubles correctly. So as I rewrite the software I still want to read the old datafiles just like before.if I use a byte array and read 8 bytes, the bytes read are identical in Vb6 and vb.net. We are talking about reading an existing old binary file created by vb6.
for example the number 3, stored as a double has a 8 byte array that looks like this:
[0][0][0][0][0][0][0][5] in vb6.
in vb.net if you use the bitconverter.getbytes(cdbl(3)) you get
[0][0][0][0][0][0][8]64]
in vb6 the first array is converted to the # 3 correctly.in vb.net the array is converted to something way way off.
