View 3 RepliesI'm having a massive problem trying to write a file into the c:windowssystem32 directory. The code works fine on 32 bit machines, however does not work on 64 bit machines. My user account is an administrator on the machine, and even right clicking and choosing to run the app as administrator does not solve the issue.
When writing the file, no exception is thrown, but the file is not written. I have read various posts regarding adding an app.manifest file containing the requestedExecutionLevel node to my solution, but as yet am unable to get this to work. I have a feeling this may be because I'm using vb.net rather than c#.net(also, this is not a malicious app I am writing, I'm working on a version control app for our team and need to be able to interface with IIS files held in c:windowssystem32inetsrvconfig).
when i run project exe into another computer it gave error as mentioned in above fig

I have a utility that is a simple exe that is not installed compiled with VS2005 and works well. But when I upgraded to VS2008 the utility can no longer locate files in the active system folder. I have UAC turned off and am logged in as the Administrator and it still can not locate a file that I can see in Windows Explorer. The file I am looking for is PakMgr.exe.
View 1 RepliesI have created a program that saves the co-ordinates of the users mouse and saves it to a text file to be used as an auto clicker.
View 2 RepliesI'm using vb.net 1.1 to develop the program. I got text files that contain test result from a machine, like below.
T1 1.24535 2.56335 2.43253 1.24538 2.55619 4.35243
T2 1.42542 1.63728 3.57295 4.59275 1.57320 2.72057
T3 5.12857 2.45375 6.38593 2.58375 3.57259 3.57204
I need to check the test result with the data from database, to find out which test result is failed. If there is a fail test result, I will show an alert to the operator and stop the checking process. Until the operator close the alert, then the checking process will continue from the last read point.
I have a number of word documents I am converting. Everything is going great until I get a file that is read only. In this case I get a Save As prompt.
Is there any way to open the file in read/write format? I should have admin privileges so access isn't an issue.
I'm using VB.net to open the files. More specifically
doc = word.Documents.Open(path, Type.Missing, False, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing)
Reading a .txt file in VB.net. My file path is C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt.
This is my line of Dim LoanOptionsFile As String = "C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt"
I can read the file when I run the program, but how do I write the file path so that someone else can download my program and file and read the file on their system?
I'm trying to make a program that can read .mp3 data (Such as Artist, Album, Year, Track number, etc), but I need to be able to do two things that I have no clue how to do:
1. Read starting from a specified string (E.G, On one line it states: [code]
2. Read until a specified string (E.G, On the previously stated line,I need to read starting from what I said, up until.
i need to read binary file and in this file found the string and replace it with other one and save the file afterwords. I found many example to read binary, but to find and replace is for me mistery.
View 3 RepliesI need to write data to a file, preferably in binary format, but I am unaccustomed with the concept. Where's the easiest place to get the basics? I could come here with a specific need, but I'm at the point right now where I am more willing to work within the confines of keeping it simple.
Here's what I know:
1. how to open a new file
2. how to specify the record length
3. how to close the file
Some specific questions:
Does the record length have to be constant throughout the file?
Can I read the nth record without reading the whole file?
I have a fairly simple XML file that I just want to read the data from.
It has 3 levels, root, main section and items. There are no attributes. I want to go to the first main section by name, then read in all the items. The items all are named the same. I've seen this done before, so it should be ok. No writing will be done. Basically this is a static data file
File looks similar to the following:

in my text file i have two part. Called bottom and top. So i need to read the Top part first then and match the line with bottom part. Its like this

I'm using the following code to iterate through and find windows containing specific strings in their title bars. I have two projects containing this identical information, yet for some reason - it works when targeted to x64, but FindWindowLike returns 0 always on x86. I need this to run in x86.I am developing this on Windows 7 x64, but it needs to run on my machine as well as XPx32. What I can't fathom is why it compiles/runs on x64 but not x32 (considering I'm targetting user*32*.dll)

View 5 Repliescoming from VB6 I've been using the windows API for many years. Now I'd lke to do the same on .NetMy question is, what would happen if I build for 'AnyCPU' and the application calls Kernel32 while running on a 64bit machine ?
View 1 RepliesI have an application that I built in VB.Net 2008 on Windows XP for Any CPU that I would like to run on Windows 7 64bit. Is this possible from Windows XP or do I need to compile and develope on Windows 7 64bit for it to work?

View 10 RepliesI am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition and I want to create a 64bit application, but don't know how.
View 9 RepliesDepending on what component is handling the print for you, some of them are not 64 bit ready (i.e. 32 bit only). To use them you must compile your application as 32 bit only. It will then run on the WOW platform that Win7 supplies.
You change this option on the PropertiesCompile screen. Press Advanced Compile Options and review Target CPU:
I've downloaded the 64bit debug symbols and told the IDE where they were located. But for some reason, VS won't build a 64bit debug EXE.
This is my first time doing 64bit so I never had to worry about it before. Is there something I need to do in the IDE that I don't know about? I went to Project Properties and set things to 64bit debug. But when I compile the program, it makes a 32bit program.
will .net framework3.0 application run on 64 bit operating system
View 5 RepliesI'm getting a new laptop with pretty free hands as to what to get. Most I like come with Windows 7 64bit and I'm a bit cautious about that as I have Vista 64bit on a stationary at home. Not completely happy with that.
I have learned that the Jet database - that I use a lot - does not run on Vista 64bit, but how's the story with Windows 7 64bit. As I will be doing a lot of programming on the new laptop (and I need to get moving again soon - busy!!) I would like to know of potential problems up front.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008 programming VB.Net
I have an old 32bit vb type app and we're running it on windows 7 64bit sp1. On one computer it works fine, on another it doesn't work right. Do you know how we could debug this and figure out what's causing it? Could a different CPU or bios/chip set have something to do with it?
This is the thing we're using specifically:[URL]...
When I'm trying to register this it gives an error.
