Windows 7 64bit Write File In C:WindowsSystem32?
Feb 24, 2012
I'm having a massive problem trying to write a file into the c:windowssystem32 directory. The code works fine on 32 bit machines, however does not work on 64 bit machines. My user account is an administrator on the machine, and even right clicking and choosing to run the app as administrator does not solve the issue.
When writing the file, no exception is thrown, but the file is not written. I have read various posts regarding adding an app.manifest file containing the requestedExecutionLevel node to my solution, but as yet am unable to get this to work. I have a feeling this may be because I'm using vb.net rather than c#.net(also, this is not a malicious app I am writing, I'm working on a version control app for our team and need to be able to interface with IIS files held in c:windowssystem32inetsrvconfig).

I'm making an installer and I need to copy a file into C:WindowsSystem32. It's a dll file. When I try to do this, app throws an exception saying that the access is denied. Before doing this, I copy a lot of files into another directories and have no problem at all. The exception is thrown only when I try to write into that folder.

I have a utility that is a simple exe that is not installed compiled with VS2005 and works well. But when I upgraded to VS2008 the utility can no longer locate files in the active system folder. I have UAC turned off and am logged in as the Administrator and it still can not locate a file that I can see in Windows Explorer. The file I am looking for is PakMgr.exe.

I'm getting a new laptop with pretty free hands as to what to get. Most I like come with Windows 7 64bit and I'm a bit cautious about that as I have Vista 64bit on a stationary at home. Not completely happy with that.
I have learned that the Jet database - that I use a lot - does not run on Vista 64bit, but how's the story with Windows 7 64bit. As I will be doing a lot of programming on the new laptop (and I need to get moving again soon - busy!!) I would like to know of potential problems up front.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008 programming VB.Net

I have an old 32bit vb type app and we're running it on windows 7 64bit sp1. On one computer it works fine, on another it doesn't work right. Do you know how we could debug this and figure out what's causing it? Could a different CPU or bios/chip set have something to do with it?
This is the thing we're using specifically:[URL]...

I am writing a vbs to create local port to connect to our printer server (i.e local port for \PrintServerPrintQueue1). I can create the local port succesfully through editing the registry HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPorts and then restarting the spooler service in Windows 7 32bit. However, the same script cannot create the port in Windows 7 64bit. The registry was also changed but cannot create the local port after restarting spooler service. Does anyone know what difference between 32bit and 64bit Windows when creating the local port?

After compiling the project it works fine on windows 7 32bit and 64 bit but will not work on server 2003 or xp clients have not checked vista yet, i have verified that .net 4 is installed and i can tell you that i do not get an error message when installing apart from the icon that i have given the project does not appear and is a blank icon on the desktop. When i try to run the program it will try to start i see the service in the task manager and after a while it will error out and crash. I can see the memory usage go from 20,000K to 70.000k.

Currently I am building a Canon EDSDK Application using VB.NET that access a Canon 500D camera. It's a DLSR system. I've read that the EDSDK is only working on 32 bit system, thus my application only capable of running on a 32 bit system.
But, I just installed DLSR pro [URL], it can access my camera, regardless of the operating system : 32bit/64bit.
How do they able to do it?
Is there a new EDSKD that can access camera in 64 bit OS? I am using a 2.6 EDSDK.

I have a VB .net application which works fine on a 32 bit systems. We tried using it on a 64bit Windows 7 system but it failed. So I set up an environment in a VM (windows 7 64bit VS 2005 SP1 all updated) and started debugging there. The problem I come across is, I have a module (Public variables and function declarations from a driver provider FTDI). When a function from module is called the result is saved in a variable also from module. But the problem is the variable is not declared.

trying to write to c:windowssystem32 on a windows 7 x64 machine, but the application keeps writing to c:windowssyswow64 instead. I have heard of windows interpreting commands and modifying them to be what microsoft "thinks" you are trying to do.when dealing with 32 bit apps running on a 64 bit os.the line of code im using is:
System.IO.File.WriteAllBytes("C:WindowsSystem32dbcon9x64TEST.dll", My.Resources.dbcon9X64)
the issue is I need to write files to both c:windowssystem32 and c:windowssyswow64 ....the files need to have the same name.

I designed a vb.net application. In this application I am using some file which are in WindowsSystem32 folder. Each and everything is working file, but when I install my application on any x64 machine. My application is unable to read the in WindowsSystem32 files. I think this is because of WOW64(windows-32-on-windows-64) issue. I don't want to install these files at any other place because of application security purpose.

A job recruiter asked me if I could take over writing code for a device that uses Windows CE. He didn't know much about it except that he thought the previous programmer was using Visual Basic, and he thought it might be Visual Basic.NET, along with SQL Server. I'd like to take over this programming job if I am qualified, but I don't know if I am. I have developed code using VB.NET, C#.NET, SQL Server for standard Windows. I used .NET to build programs that run on Windows desktop, and also the WPF platform. I also built ASP.NET and Silverlight programs for the web. In addition I have written programs that interface with machinery using serial and TCP coimmunications.
Would I be able to get up-to-speed on taking over the coding of a program that targets Windows CE? Does Windows CE allow .NET managed code or just C++ and VB6? Would it be advisable to try to get this job or would taking it lead to problems and disappointment?

I have a bit of ported code. It was automatically converted from VB6 to VB.NET. Now when if finally compiles, it produces output files with some values replaced with literal #ERROR 448#.I will eventually find out what's the problem, but I just wonder, if anyone knows what does this error mean. VB's Write function is used.

I understand that I cannot use the System.Console to output information from a Windows Forms application because the standard input, output, and error streams are not run through the console in winforms apps. But I can't seem to find any documentation on where the standard input, output, and error streams are being directed to! Basically, I have a winforms app that accepts command line arguments and can be run in batch mode, however, I just want to direct some feedback to the user based on whatever method they're accessing the program. The app is used to redirect a client-server application from one server to another. In some instances, the user does it by hand (with a mouse), and other times they're doing it in batch mode (using SAS, command shell, VBScript, etc...). In those instances, I'd prefer NOT to use MessageBoxes because it will kill any processing they're doing.
